    As a super diehard WIZ*ONE, I can't stress enough how badly we were robbed of so much precious time with the girls because of the voting scandal and COVID. I think that's why many WIZ*ONES still to this day wish for them to be one again.

    The reason these groups have such a short contract is because the whole point of the companies sending their trainees is that the winners are expected to come back to their agencies and bring an already existing fan base to support them in whatever group their company plans to debut them

    IZ*ONE didn't disband after the controversy because they have been prepared for the next comeback (BLOOM*IZ/Fiesta) and even had already pre-recorded several stages for the comeback before the controversy raised. In another sense, the audience that attended the pre-recording already heard the upcoming songs. So the preparations for the comeback were complete.

    From a business standpoint iz*one did make a ton of money but the money was split between the companies of the trainees AND the company that iz*one as a group was under. They’ll obviously make more money if they’re the only ones in control of the trainees. For example wonyoung and yujin are making much more money for starship in IVE compared to their time in iz*one

    • @fluffydeath9252
      @fluffydeath9252 Год назад +29

      The most important factor in this: *Starship* is making more money off of Yujin and Wonyoung, with IVE than they did and would have if they extended their contract with IZ*One. Which is why it was understood that Starship was most likely the largest stumbling block to extension.

      @fluffy death 🙄 that does not comport with reality. By the end of Izone's contract, almost no one except CJ was making money from Izone b/c of COVID. Considering how fast most of the members came back (in Chaewon's case, deal w/ Hybe), that means every company was already knees deep in pursuing post-izone ventures by the time extension was being floated.
      The fans propagating rumors that Starship was the holdout has led to Wonyoung and Yujin getting threats & so-called fans publicly wishing that their careers will go nowhere, so. You know. It's good that the rumor is still alive and kicking, I guess.

    • @fluffydeath9252
      @fluffydeath9252 Год назад +5

      @@bh1746 Take a long hard look at what you wrote in the first paragraph and try and figure out what's contradictory and illogical.
      You have some basic failures in information relaying. In several cases you are comparing a Orange Tree. TO an Entire Apple orchard.
      1) CJ itself is a massive corporation with many subsidiaries
      2) CJ EnM is also massive subsiaries with many entertainment companies underneath. So any one company that underperforms can be propped up by many others, which includes Cable broadcast networks like TvN. In fact unless you have access to any one of those individual companies earning reports you have absolutely no idea how much any one of those subsidiary music companies are doing, nor what the exact break down of those financials and the causes are. THe Apple Orchard is did just fine, because it is built to do just fine regardless of the crisis thrown at it.
      3) WM, Starship (itself a subsidiary company of KakaoM so it answers to a higher authority, and this is important), Yuehua, the Orange trees, are smaller individual entities, without TV Stations to prop up the financials, so of course something like Covid is going to make them financially falter.
      4) You are suggesting that Companies are willing to kill the golden goose that are laying small eggs, then they are all going to have to wait before those same geese are going to lay eggs dedicated them. You're hilarious.
      5) there is a reason IVE debuted the same year IZONE disbanded. ) Starship was ready to go. )Starship needed to be ready to go.
      If Covid was so much of a factor IVE would not have had the timing and schedule that you are trying to give it the credit for.
      6) there is a reason Woolim let Chaewon go (the details of that transaction are unknown. Idol contracts can be sold between companies FYI), and debuted Eunbi solo. WM's sale to RBW is the entire explanation of Chaeyeon's fate.
      Your second paragraph. well. Fans will be fans. Fucking idiots. Fans in general, are the ones who blamed the members of Izone and X1 for MNET's shenanigans during produce. And I will treat it as such.
      The consequences of Starships actions are not Wonyoung and Yujin's responsibility to bare, not is it particularly relevant.

    They were actually almost a permanent group! The fan had made an attempt to contact to extend their contract, and as long as all companies agreed there would’ve been no problem of them continuing. They got pretty far and most companies agreed but 2 companies (Starship and Yueheua I think, Wonyoung, Yujin and Yenas companies) did not accept them proposals leaving them to just disband. It’s sad but at the end of the day, these companies want their money :(

    It was the best time of my life, watching the show, see them debuting, go through everything with them, good and bad and in the end after disbanding, joined the PUP project, it is a bummer, because of one company we couldnt get atleast the K-idols to stay together (as the japanese members needed to graduate etc from akb48 groups) but still, I'm happy to keep following them after they disbanded and went into other groups/solo projects. It's cliché and cringe to say but, they literally saved me from depression at the darkest time of my life after switching countries because of my parents had no work/money. Now I'm doing well and my family too.
    And my motivation to keep going is: I want to grow old watching them and supporting all the members as much as I can.
    So.. Thank you IZ*ONE and I hope you enjoy them even if they are not active anymore as a group!

    also, yes the final lineup was rigged, but they're chemistry was out of this world. not to justify the producers crime, but maybe they were on to something. i couldn't imagine iz*one without any one of their 12 members.

    Since the winning members are from different companies, the point is that they promote in the winning group and after the contract ends, the hope is they bring the popularity and fanbase they’ve garnered to the group that the company they’re signed with, either in a new group the company forms or as a soloist.
    Essentially, it’s hard to keep the group going if the members themselves are from different companies with different goals and plans for their artists. This is also the reason why X1 disbanded I think. The companies of the members had disagreements and decided to just pull the plug on the group.

    To clarify your doubts about the "exipiring date" of the groups.
    Basically the contract comes from an agreement from multiple companies. So to be fair each member's company has an interest in bringing back their idol to gain popularity and of course money from all the single members fans who will follow them.
    Great examples would be Chungha, Sejeong and Somi from Produce 101 and all members from Wanna One.

  • @orionlionheart9449
    @orionlionheart9449 Год назад +7

    The thing with a temporary group is that it allows unknown trainees to get more fans and become famous. Without Iz*One, most of the Iz*One members wouldn't be where they are today. Or even some trainees that lost in the Produce shows, they gathered fans and built themselves an image. It was a way of showing themselves to the world, bring the attention to maybe future kpop stars like Sakura, Wonyong, Somi, Chungha, etc.
    And they didn't extend their contract because the members were from different companies. I mean, look at IVE. Starship would NEVER have wanted to let Yujin and Wonyong in a huge group and share the profits with other companies. Now, in Ive, only Starship earn money. So it was also a marketing plan to send their trainees on a popular show. So that when they disband they can form a group with the members that are already very popular and have bigger profit. Just like Ive and Le Sserafim. Or Cravity with Hyeongjun and Minhee.

    I hate that I’m such a sucker for temporary groups coming out from survival shows 😭 IOI was one of my favourite girl groups, Wanna One, still to this day, remains as my ultest ult group EVER and I stanned IZ*ONE like it was my religion. Also watching their content and supporting them was a coping mechanism for Wanna One’s end of contract & X1’s disbandment. I remember thinking of quitting kpop after IZ*ONE the literal last produce group disbanded. I still cannot listen to any of these 4 groups’ songs without bawling over the fact they’re gone now.
    The way I teared up rn when I heard the snippet of X1’s “Flash” they were only active for a few months but they’d made several records during the time they debut. At the time of their formation, their ig acc hit 1M in 13 days breaking the record for the fastest kpop boy group hitting 1M followers, their debut song Flash, won 11 music show wins (which is a huge feat for a debut song). They also still hold the record for the fastest boy group debut song to hit 100M (334 days)
    I miss them all so dearly 😭 and while I didn’t involve myself with gp999 or Kep1er as much, I ended up becoming too emotionally attached and invested with ZB1 now, the boy group from Boys Planet. I’m so done 😭 actually gonna quit kpop after they disband in 2.5 yrs I’ve committed enough I think

    Izone have many stories, behind stories. They were the most loved girl group, at least in Korea, and the most hated girl group at the same time. The broadcaster was wrong, but there were many people who blamed the members. But on the contrary, there were many people who supported the members. That became the background that made them come back, and at the same time it was the cause that made them stop. Most of them are engaged in other groups or individual activities, and many music critics evaluate IZ*ONE as one of the backgrounds that made the current girl group revival. I was able to remember IZ*ONE through your reactions. Thank you. Please give more reactions to IZ*ONE in the future.

    the controversial happened. and after a few months. they came back with bloom*iz (Fiesta) and still dominate and would become the record holder of the first week album sales on hanteo for girlgroup with 300k+ the second is Twice with 154k and honestly after that happened. That actually felt like it evolved the whole kpop community. other fandoms started bulk pre-ordering their fave group's comeback album. It's like it created a competition for the first week album sales.
    And that is even after the controversy. That's just how powerful IZ*ONE is. People argue that other members of the group shouldn't be in it but honestly for the fans. The 12 members that made it probably is the best 12 contestant. if one of the 12 is missing. the atmosphere, the vibe and the chemistry would probably be not there.

As a wiz*one, there was a lot that I didn’t understand about iz*one’s disbandment when it happened since they had so much success. Unfortunately, many companies view idols like assets with their “interest rates” being growing popularity. Many companies join these shows so that after disbandment they can capitalize on the popularity of the members who already debuted without having to split profits and compromise with other agencies…

    as many others have said, all the trainees come from different companies. from the companies pov their main goal in sending trainees to these shows is for them to debut, promote in that temporary group and then come back to their company with all this new fame and attention. for example, starship had wonyoung and yujin in izone, and then when they came back they debuted ive. the group wouldn't be nearly as successful without the names wonyoung and yujin attached. now starship is raking in all the profits from having two izone members.
    the reason why x1 disbanded and izone didn't is simply that the companies came to those agreements. i remember at the time reading news articles about all these different companies coming together for meetings to discuss what to do with these groups futures. x1's members agencies all decided to disband, while izones companies smartly decided that izone as a group was already well established, so all agreed to let them finish out their contracts. izone's agencies did discuss contract extension, but rumor has it starship was the holdout who wouldn't agree to extend it. they wanted wonyoung and yujin back asap.

    As a long time AKB48Group fans, my takeaway from the whole process was despite their shortcomings, all the Japanese members incl. Sakura, Nako and Hitomi realized their worth. Their fans (when treated right) will be right THERE with them, they know they can go places, and they knew there’s entirely new things to market their talents.

The boys would’ve been more popular if they extended the contact but certain companies thought the scandal would ruin the group and wanted to debut the boys into their own companies to make more profit. With a group like x1, profit from album sales gets divided into each company so having the boys disband would mean greater profit for each company

      the way this makes sense but then they had to take in account that x1 was literally UNDER FUCKING FIRE but EVERYONE WANTED THEM BACK. they didn't even have a YEAR to grow a fanbase. only THREE months before they went in hiatus for TWO months. "greater profit" but then they literally got NO profit since everyone fell into nugudom after that. they're the worst decision makers ever and i will forever be bitter.. if only they let the X1 members voice their concerns and allow them into the meeting

    It's worth remembering that IZ*ONE was formed with girls from different companies and negotiating with each of them wouldn't be easy as the profits would have to be shared, besides there were rumors that some companies were already planning a new group or solo career. WIZ*ONE tried to extend their contract for at least a year, as they didn't have a chance to present their latest releases to the public due to COVID, but unfortunately it didn't work out. It's worth remembering that at the time of the crisis, WIZ*ONE was always by IZ*ONE's side, even when many turned their backs on them, to the point where the news came out that it was one of the points for their comeback, with the sale of the Bloom*IZ album as proof. To be honest, I'm happy that everyone moved on, but for me IZ*ONE will be forever and I keep wondering, "Was it worth it?".

  • @GekiRena
    @GekiRena Год назад +1

    You were asking about why IZ*ONE continued and X1 disbanded, The reason for that is IZ*ONE themselves and the WIZ*ONES (iz*one fans). As a fan throughout the entire journey, I had witnessed what happened to the fandom when the MNET scandal broke out, Everyone else was dropping iz*one, shows were cancelled and haters were blaming the girls when they are totally innocent, the ones who are guilty are the people working behind the scenes, not them. It came to a point they were so hated we could only do one thing we can and that is to show our never-ending love and support. Fans started to trend hashtags on twitter EVERY SINGLE DAY until they were able to come back for 3 months... It was what we call a blackout bec. they stopped all social media interactions and we have not heard from any of the girls for months, despite it all, fans still trended hashtags hoping the girls will see our messages of love and support.
    Now onto the side of IZ*ONE, again they were banned to say anything about the scandal and post anything. But what we do know based on the reports was that, Both managements handling X1 and IZ*ONE had a meeting of their own. All members were asked if they want to continue the group or not. X1 members decided not to continue with the group, especially since they were just a group who just debuted and only had 1 album out. IZ*ONE had already been in the industry for more than a year, they had a solid fanbase and bond as a group already. IZ*ONE members themselves decided to continue on with the group and that's how they were able to have a comeback with BLOOM*IZ on February 2020, 3 months after the scandal broke out.
    IZ*ONE wanted to comeback for the fans who were waiting for them, during that time, it did feel like there was no one on our side, IZ*ONE only had WIZ*ONES, and WIZ*ONES only had IZ*ONE. And they came back with a BANG! I dare say that BLOOM*IZ is probably the best album of 2020. It has been praised by experts in the entertainment industry as well.

    Produce series in Korea ended because of the controversy but there are still Produce shows in China and Japan (Produce 101 Japan Season 3 would start soon).. And now in Korea they have Girls Planet and Boys Planet and whatever would be next...
    The groups created by Produce in Korea (IOI, Wanna One, IZ*ONE, X1) were temporary because the trainees were from different agencies.. that's why when Produce 101 Japan Season 1 started, their requirements specified that trainees should be not a part of any agency.. that's why groups from Produce 101 Japan (JO1 and INI) became permanent groups..

    As other people have said, all the members were form different companies and were basically 'on loan', as an example the girls from Japan didn't leave their groups and they all re-joined when IZ*ONE was over.
    I agree temporary groups is a dumb concept BUT in Korea it's pretty much always the case indirectly since the members are on time limited contracts, in fact that is why GFRIEND was disbanded, they couldn't agree to a new contract with Source Music so basically they disbanded when their contract expired (fuck Source Music btw.)
    Btw. there were pretty serious attempts to make IZ*ONE 'permanent' but ultimately Starship wouldn't agree.

  • @fin_alinea

    So IZ*ONE did. attempt to resign for their contract to be longer but all the companies of the individual girls didn’t all agree because they had plans already ready for them when they disband. That’s why these groups are temporary. Because their companies want them back after their small timed popularity to make their next group/soloist the next big thing.

  • @MrCupidsDaughter
    @MrCupidsDaughter Год назад +1

    The point of the show is to give exposure to trainees to debut in a project group for them to later to return back to their own companies . They then can debut in a new group (or solo) that benefits from their popularity being brought into the new group and whose profit goes directly into that company without having to split with the other companies. Even still, I wish we got more time with Iz*one, they were my ults.

    M-net shows are more about gaining exposure for artists and trainees rather than looking forward to the final group. Only a small percentage of the trainees will make the final group, but people will remember a trainee who didn't win once they make their debut later like in Everglow or Lightsum.
    Additionally, even if the final group is successful (which isn't guaranteed), you're still having to split the money between Swing and Off the Record Entertainment in Korea and AKS in Japan (Iz*One's management companies) along with a slice for each of the members' individual companies - Woolim, EMI, 8D Creative, Yuehua, WM, Urban Works, Kings Records, Stone Music, and Starship.

  • @bonzina
    @bonzina Год назад +2

    They are all trainees from different companies, while they are promoting as izone the revenue they generate goes mostly to the company producing the temporary group rather than their own label. The labels basically allow their trainees to participate in the hope that the popularity they grow in the temporary group will follow them when they redebut in their permanent group at the label and thus make them more money in the long run.
    As for X1, I think the individual labels decided that continuing with the project group would not increase the trainees' popularity enough to be worthwhile as they were the face of the scandal and hadn't yet had a chance to build a fanbase unlike fromis_9 and izone who were more established. Considering the mixed success of the various post-X1 groups I think they miscalculated unfortunately.

    I honestly understand why some companies might not agree to extend the contract for their trainee to stay in a temporary group. Let's say a memeber from a smaller company becomes the most popular member - of course the small company would want them back to build of of their fame and take all the money, not just a portion (it's an investment to send your trainee to show like produce, even when your trainee don't debut, they might still gain some audience like Sheon who was in Girlsplanet999 and then debuted in Billlie)
    also,
    Whenever I feel sad about Iz*one disbandment I tell myself that if they didn't disband I wouldn't have amazing music from groups like IVE, Le Sserafim or solo songs from Yena or Eunbi

  • @Chi_Ch1

    Izone had already been active for a year and had way more music, a more solid fanbase etc. Meanwhile X1 had just debuted when the controversy saw a head and when into hiatus just weeks after debut so they could be disbanded easier.
    Plus the rigging controversy and proof was strongest with X1 so if mnet had kept the group going knets would have been pissed and the boys would have endured so much hate, been boycotted etc. It was just safer for the companies involved to pull their trainees out of the group. And it was a sort of small justice for the trainees that got their rightful spot in the group ripped away from them cause of this.

    The reason behind the disbanding is becoz some of the members have to debut on their own respective company....(wonyoung and yujin on IVE ) and (Chaewon for lesserafim) they already have team members waiting for them to debut....but the for the other members they have their solo careers....exp sakura choose to graduate from AKB48 to pursue being an idol in korea...thus she was absorb by Chaewons company and eventualy joined lesserafim...to be quite frank its a marketing strategy...the fandom that they have garnered with IZone will surely support the groups formed after IZone...but for the information of other "wizone" the fandom of Izone...raised fund for izone to continue....and have one more album but it didnt became a reality as other members already have their schedule set..But precious things are ment to be cherish as they take their own separate ways they became successful with the path they have chosen

    ik im super late but man oh man i wished x1's fate to be different... like these boys.. my WOODZ... deserved the absolute best they were going to be the leading 4th gen bg... oh how i could turn back time and stop them from disbanding. the thing is, the general public didn't even want x1 to disband. x1 was loved EVERYWHERE, even if they were 'manipulated'. even the korean gp started to defend them after some time because they wanted the best for the boys. a week before the disbandment news (dec 31st 2019), they put out a statement saying X1 would resume activities and continue with their winter album. however, a week later (jan 6th 2020) they said they'll hold a meeting in which they'll decide the fate... and it broke peoples hearts. the way the x1 members didnt even KNOW about their disbandment until the WHOLE WORLD knew. that's how unplanned it was. they didn't allow the members to join into the discussion (which was such a bad thing, im sure x1 would've talked them out of this). 7 out of 9 of the companies agreed to let them stay but fuckass starship n woolim said no (haha.. ironic considering they were the ones punished for the voting scandal). i WISH X1 COULD COME BACK

Like I know it was rigged and I feel bad for the other trainees who were supposed to be in the final lineup but what's done is done and it's not like it was the members' fault that the show was rigged. X1 would've been so big by now, can probably be the biggest 4th gen group if they stayed. Even with just their debut song they won so fast and even won 11 trophies, they had one for all 11 members lol. KInda sad there were a lot of contents that were supposed to comeout. There was even a winter album supposed to be coming out at that time but that didn't happen. All members seems to be fine with it now tho and is now working hard in their own group and solo activities. I just wish all the best for all of them.

      Fans believing the myth that Starship was the sole holdout has led to Wonyoung and Yujin getting death threats (both minors at the time) + wizones publicly wishing that their careers will die out. IZ*ONE didn't disband because they were deep into their contracts and it was going to be a more complex situation if they disbanded right away during the crisis. Their image will also be severely affected if it weren't because of their revival with "Fiesta". Unfortunately for X1, they disbanded since their contracts were still in the works, and the representatives (i think) were not yet able to finalize their agreements. X1 was said to have not officially signed contracts with their temporary company (the company that was supposed to handle their 5 year promotions) during the crisis. So I think they were disbanded since it will be easier for them to get out of the controversy without damaging their image and for their original companies to save money.
    I miss both groups dearly, and I am rooting for all the memebers to find success on their own without being held back by their past, especially the trauma that the crisis gave them. I am and forever willl be supportive of IZ'ONE and X1 members
