Incredible content, and just feeling the production vibe… none other like it. This is “why fountain pens” by anyone who’s taken “that’s obvious” as a college freshman. And for those who sadly took basket weaving in lieu of this, your content is the perfect guide for the rest to get up to speed, and get with it. My fountain pen/nib pen journey started just as I entered my tweenage years… And I have been forever entangled by the unignorable and unimpeachable charm that is the unique character and joy of writing with fountain pens. I, too, and quite satisfied with my collection… My first fountain pen, as an adult, was a Monteverde Invincia Black Tie. My collection maintains a host of Monteverde in various models and colors. Well, I can talk about fountain pens for forever… but just wanted to take a moment and thank you. Please continue to share. This is content that is much needed…. Reviews and unboxings are fun… but this kind of content reaches the soul.

Comments such as yours is what motivated me to start posting videos. I’m fascinated by fountain pens and how people use them. I haven’t had the pleasure of writing with Monteverde quite yet. I’m intrigued by their flex nib as that’s something I’d like to explore in the coming years.
Should I search for the basket weaving rabbit hole (if there even is one) here on RUclips? 😀
“Forever entangled by the unignorable and unimpeachable charm that is the unique character and joy of writing with fountain pens.”
Thank you for your wonderful sentiment, and quote for my journal entry today. I couldn’t have said it any better.

I admire your restrain, curating your collection 3 years in, i overdid it at that time (now 9 years in) & am now selling half my collection. My "curated" collection to keep is only slightly larger than yours (not bragging, more to my detriment) since I have a collection of 14 pocket rotated through my wallet use, 3 desk-only pens & 16 regular size pens i regularly rotate at my desk/office.
I wholeheartedly agree the travelers pen is one of the best pockets i have, i can never wait too long to get back to it, even have the green "factory" to support/enjoy them more;although i like finer nibs for my pocket notebooks so i switched it out with an opus 88 #5 nib EF. I have one Pelikan m800 Stone Garden, i'm bummed i missed out on m1005 Stresemann, didn't know it was limited, but if i find one second market (as long as they don't want my first born), i'm prolly getting it.
May the triune God bless you sir, I look forward to more videos!

Wonderful stuff Rob, thank you for sharing! I can empathize with the predicament you're in; too many pens and not enough time to write with them all. At least you have a really good idea of which to keep and which to let go. That alone is gratifying.
I actually had my eye on the M800 Stone Garden initially and was certain I would get one. Then I discovered the Stresemann and it was love at first sight.
I hope you and your loved ones are well and God bless you all.

An enjoyable review. I have more than 20 Pelikans, some of which are Special Editions. I used to get them with M nibs, which tend to write like B ones, so now I choose either F or XF nibs. I recently got a "grail" Pelikan, an M900 with a F nib. I own many other popular brands which I cycle among when I write. I love fountain pens, partly because they are old technology, the many choices of ink one can use, they way they write, the character of the writing one can achieve, their aesthetic appeal, and the fact that most of them are not throw-away.

I love everything about this video - your collection, your handwriting, your jewelry, your voice in a slow cadence - all so beautiful.
My first fountain pen is a Kawekco Sport in EF, last May. I've since gotten more in EF and F and love them all. My husband gave me a Cross botanical fine point for Christmas. While he's obviously not in the pen community (who uses Cross?) I really like it as it writes very smooth. A couple of weeks ago I got the BENU Euphoria Iced Caramel Latte fine point from Goulet Pens. It's so huge compared to the others but I love it. I use it side-by-side with a Pilot Kakuno EF. They are becoming best friends.
On my wish list yet is the BENU Briolette Luminous Amber and a Sailor Pro Gear Slim in either the pink (Momo) or the jade (Dragon Palace).

    • @Topscura
      @Topscura  Год назад +1

Thank you so much for the time and feedback Kathy. I very much appreciate it! you are going to love the BENU Briolette, I’m sure. The nib is wonderful as the pen is beautiful. The deeper I go into this fountain pen hobby, the more amazed I am by the sheer size and vastness of the landscape. You’ve now introduced me to Cross which seems like a very capable and practical brand. Your husband sounds like a thoughtful, sentimental man! :) I hope you come back and share more about your collection and writing experiences.

Re Cross FPs: I have a couple of "Year Of ..." Cross pens and they work well for me. I was so pleased with them that I got a Peerless 125 silver pen with gold trim in 2019. It is a beautiful pen, but the cap thread-to-barrel thread, was too tight, and the cap thread junction failed. I sent the pen for repair, and haven't heard anything back, even after an inquiry letter. I had to send the letter to their headquarters, because it was impossible to find a phone number or an email address for them.

@@Topscura I went with the Medium nib and it arrived today! I am still working with the Pelikan. It seems to be sensitive to technique, so I am having to really focus on my handwriting. Being left handed in the fountain pen world has a few drawbacks. When I get it right, the Pelikan is amazing. I recently picked up a Montegrappa Elmo 02 and that pen is a dream! Check one out if you get a chance. Also, I live in Mississippi and LOVE 49th Parallel coffee! I have a Rocket espresso machine and use their cups/saucers for all my drinks. Oh that Brown Black Pelikan 🥰Pelikan is my all-time favorite pen company as well. The first time I wrote with mine I literally gasped aloud. That nib is perfect. So perfect I have F, Med, and a left oblique nib for my 3 Pelikans in my collection. Being a card carrying member of the "tiny hands club," the M200-400 seem to suit me the best. I also JUST purchased my first Benu. I didn't think they were at all for me, then I saw the Skulls & Roses in red for a great deal and I snatched it up! I hear wonderful things about the nibs so I'm eager to see for myself what that means to me.
Congrats on the new Kaweco! I'm not sure if you dig stub nibs, but their stub nibs are excellent with this pen body. I've found it to be perfectly weighted to use with this pen.

I have the Pelikan brown inked with Franklin Christoph Honeycomb at the moment - what a perfect pair! It’s like they were made grace paper together from the start.
I’ve had my eye on the Skulls & Roses model as well. Please do let me know how you get on with it? I’ve heard some great things about the Kaweco stub nibs. I will definitely be adding one to my Spring shopping list. I used to avoid broad nibs but I’ve grown to love them.

Thanks for sharing your collection, despite what you say at the start regarding nib sizes, you seem to be owning rather small size nibs but in brands (well brand rather since it is mostly Pelikan) that tend to write rather broader than what the nib would indicate. I have a slightly larger collection and like you I tend to write extra fine to fine (or Japanese fine to medium) which works well with my writing style. Recently I started using more specialty nibs like oblique medium or even broad and I am about to start learning grinding my own nibs to make cursive italic, oblique or architects. I tried stubs but I simply hate them they are not at all in my alley but the narrower down stroke of a cursive italic should work better for me. I own a few vintage Pelikans (mostly 140 and one 400NN) and I have the m1000 on my bucket list, the vintage flex are really fun to use but I'm quite attracted by the m1000 in EF. At the moment my top pen is a Pilot Urushi vermillion which is a dream, and I have a Visconti EF coming soon. You seem thought to prefer (slightly) heavier pens from your collection, but I would recommend the Pilot Urushi it is really great with its large nib. If you like Japanese style pens but you feel that Japanese nibs are too fine, there is Wancher pens which has exquisite pens but that you can fit with Jowo no 6 nib, not the same as a gold nib but frankly the Jowos when well tuned are really great. Anyway, I stop rambling, thanks for sharing your collection, and thanks for your very soothing and classy video style. Well done and I am looking forward to your next one!

    • @Topscura

Wonderful stuff Christian, thank you for sharing. You’re right, I’m definitely leaning toward broad nibs. I’m intrigued by some of the speciality nibs such as cursive italics and obliques. It’s a shame Pelikan do not make such nibs widely available. I just looked up the Pilot Custom Urushi Vermillion - what a handsome pen! I aspire to have a urushi pen to enjoy one day. My taste seem to land on Danitrio at the moment. One day…. I’m going to do some research on Wancher pens as I’m not at all familiar with the brand. Thank you once again for the suggestions and sharing your perspective. I really enjoy reading thoughtful comments such as yours.

    Beautiful pens! 👍🔥👏
I have to say, though, that the M805 throws off the balance of your collection, because it has a silver trim. It would, however, go extreeeeemely well with my pen collection, where the Montblanc Bordeaux 144 is the odd one of the bunch because of the yellow gold trim! 😜 But I'm sure your M805 prefers Western Canada's weather than Eastern Canada's one. ❄🌨🥶
I find the shape of the nib of the M805 to be more beautiful than that of the M600 or M1000. The shoulders look wider, the tines longer and the tip pointier. Really gorgeous.😍

I started my fountain pen journey with a LAMY Safari in medium which i hated because it wrote really wet however things have changed and that pen has since been retired; I've since learned and found my preference for nibs (Fine if it's a Japanese pen, Extra-Fine if it's American, or a European pen)
The type of pens i tend to gravitate to are usually plain, and understated ones, so Benu's are definitely something i've never wanted-wanted though they are pretty! I share your love for Pelikans, I have the M200, 400, 600 and will probably get the 800 and 1000 in the coming months (RIP my wallet and bank account) and my "grail" pen would be the Nakaya Dorsal Fin and probably a Mont Blanc 149 (already have the 146!) - Anyways! I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you

Thank you for the feedback BT! It’s satisfying when you finally find what you prefer writing with. Makes the whole experience much more enjoyable in my opinion. I tell you, the Benu kind blind if the light hits it right. I have to be careful when I whip it out in public; looks more like a wand then a pen at times! :) There is a lot of fun to be had between the M200 - M600 range. I would really like to own the M400 Tortoise Brown, and the M600 Tortoiseshell Red. I’ll just have to use my imagination as I’m already at my limit. If Pelikan brings the Tortoiseshell Red in the M800 or M1000 size, I may not be able to resist.

If I had more money, I would definitely get more into Pelikan. They are gorgeous pens. I was so happy to see the TWSBI Eco Jade in your collection. But then I was a bit baffled that you got rid of it. Curious why you would get rid of the Eco over the Safari. Ultimately, we all have our own tastes, but the Eco Jade is honestly one of the most beautiful pens I've ever seen. Love the video. Smooth and laidback. Great for a Sunday morning!

Pelikan Souveräns are gorgeous indeed. I hope you get a few when the time is right. I adored the TWSBI Eco Jade but I chose wrongly with the nib. Extra fine is just too fine for my writing style unfortunately. The nib isn’t removable with the Eco which is disappointing.

@@Topscura oh yes, extra fine. Say no more. I have one just to be a completionist, but I find no joy in writing with EF. Actually, the nibs can be taken out. I take it out when cleaning. @@Topscura The nib and feed are removable on the ECO. They're friction fit and you can pull them out, being careful not to crush the fragile fins. The issue is that TWSBI doesn't sell separate replacement nibs. You have to buy a sacrificial pen, such as a TWSBI GO, and swap nibs. Of all my ECOs, the Jade is my favorite, so I too was sorry to see it dismissed. Lovely collection though, especially the Pelikans.

Love seeing your devotion to your favorite fountain pen brand :) I've always been on the fence with the Pelikan pens since I know I may get deep into collecting them and they are way too expensive to collect, but I suppose I have time to slowly acquire the ones I like (the black tortoise shell black and turquoise white. Will probably get them on sale T_T whenever that happens). I hear that the Pelikan nibs write much thicker than most western nibs of the same nib size, so I think I'd probably be happy with an EF or F. I find that my preferences for nib size really depends on what I'm writing, the paper I'm writing on, and just the my mood at the time. So for now, I love Sailors and Leonardos and they both satisfy my needs for finer tips and broader tips for all writing at any point in time. Thank you very much for your presentation of your collection! Really enjoyed the calming vibe and listening to your fountain pen collection journey. Always wondered if I should add music to the background of my videos, and you've done it very well here, so I will experiment more with that myself.

@@Topscura Michael, my number one pen brand is OMAS. I could write an essay on why I love OMAS pens, but I'll try to give you a condense version if you want on. I only say that because I don't know if you're familar with OMAS or not? One day if I ever get the nerve to put up videos a tribute to OMAS will definitely be one of them.
The pens themselves are beautiful, I mean design wise, materials, like the OMAS celluloids, and the nib, the nib, the nib. Nothing, and I mean nothing writes like an OMAS nib. The OMAS 360 is also my favorite pen. It is hands down the most comfortable pen I have ever used. Prior to using OMAS pens I enjoyed writing with fountain pens, but ever since my experience with fountain pens has gone to a different level. The act of writing brings me complete joy; it's blissful. If I haven't written in a few days, I find myself wanting to write about something, anything, even if I have nothing to write about. It's almost like an addiction, and not with just OMAS pens. @Topscura  Год назад

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 Год назад

@@Topscura So the story I know is due to supply chain issues caused by COVID, Pelikan could not get the translucent body. This led to pens not getting to retailers, and Pelikan not making money I guess. I feel Pelikan held off as long as they could, because why change something that is so popular? This was further confirmed by, "Pelikan back in-stock," "Pelikan finally restocked," by pen retailers' newsletters.
So I'm giving Pelikan the benefit of the doubt. Who knows may be if they can get things back in order, the opaque bodies might become the rare pens instead.
As far as I know the changes apply to all models. Shame really because I am quite taken with an M800 in the blue. Guess I'll focus on the replacement nibs since I have all the models. I do wish Pelikan would bring back the premium nibs like OBs, 3Bs, etc.
