      Thank you so much for watching and sharing your impressions! I certainly want to avoid over consumption. I have all I need/want right now and haven’t purchased anything new for myself in 2023. My goal is a zero spend year on stationery (I have a lot 🙈).

    I like that quote. It made me think of something I was thinking about a couple of days ago. As I ponder a pen purchase, I was thinking about the optimal number of pens. I thought of your 10 pen rule, and that has a lot of sense, but just won't work for me at this point.
    Back to my point, it just made me think of how disposable we are, and how luxury has also become synonymous with "handmade" goods. While the prices for such goods are usually out of reach, less convenient to the average person, this is what people consumed for the most of human civilization.
    A fountain pen, tailored clothes, hand made shoes, a mechanical watch. All these goods were refilled, repaired, altered, resoled, when worn out, or damaged, not just chucked out. I am by no means advocating for lux goods or the prices of said goods, but my thought was how these everyday items were reused over and over and over again, then to be passed down to another generation for use and joy, juxtaposed to how we consume and collect now.. (also guilty as charged myself)
    Not only were these goods used many years over, but were made to be serviced, or adjusted as time went on.

    • @Topscura
      @Topscura  Год назад +1

      Your sentiments resonate so much. I agree, luxury has almost become a dirty word or insult. I prefer an older interpretation where luxury simply means well constructed, built to last, beautifully presented and little compromise in execution.
      Which fountain pens are you reaching for the most these days?

      @@Topscura Thus far this year the OMAS 360 [F] and Montblanc 149 [M] were consistently inked from late January to early May. Now they need their rest. Currently inked are a Pilot Custom 74 [SFM], Montegrappa Fortuna [M[, and a Lamy Studio [B[.

      I really appreciate the feedback! Once I have a concept I move fairly quickly. I start writing the script once the concept is solidified. The longest portion is refining the final sequence and tolerating my voice! It's difficult sometimes hearing myself. I sometimes wonder why anyone would find my voice pleasing. I will re-record sequences and then get hung up on acoustics not matching perfectly. -sigh-

    A wonderful reminder! Leather goods always get better over time. It’s always better to use them regularly. Yours look so good! Like heirlooms passed down from another generation. Nice to see you pop up in my feed today…. It’s been awhile. I hope you’re having a splendid Spring!

      Well said Lorelei. I love the way you articulate the point of heirlooms being passed down. You’ve given me inspiration for my next journal entry (thank you). Great quality things make the experience that much more enjoyable.
