GRAD Partnership COP: Investing in Adolescents: The Role of School Culture in Shaping Student Trajectories
In this COP, we heard from Shanette Porter, Co-Director of the Equitable Learning and Development Group and Senior Research Associate at the University of Chicago Consortium.
Dr. Porter presented a recent report, Investing in Adolescents: High School Climate and Organizational Context Shape Student Development and Educational Attainment. The research highlights how effective schools, those that foster multiple dimensions of student growth including socioemotional development, test scores, attendance, and reduced discipline incidents improved students’ long-run trajectories. Most importantly, schools that fostered students’ socioemotional development had the greatest impact on students’ trajectories - even greater than test scores.
