- 4,000 miles traveled, learning a new body of water, and trying to figure out what makes these foreign bass bite has come down to this. what was supposed to be a 3-day tournament is now a 2-day shootout because of weather. I'm dying watching you two. I retired to Portugal ...this is my third fall/winter. Fished SoCal lakes for 32 years before that, mostly tube and kayak, but on some bud's boats, too. Started 60 years ago walking banks in Connecticut ponds, lakes streams. Yeah ...these achigã here are...smart. I can't explain it. You guys were saying almost word-for-word what I've been bitching about to my wife! But..I have started to figure them out some. After some Google Map sleuthing, I mostly tube smaller irrigation ponds here, but some med size lake also. The bigger reservoirs like Sabor where you guys are (or near me Castelo de Bode) are impossible without a legit bass boat; too big, too clear, too rocky, cover/structure too spread out. .But here's the thing: C&R is NOT big here ...and many still keep what they catch ...they fish for food. There are even river cafe restaurants that serve bass! So the population is more smaller fish and fewer bigs. Got a 3lber on a 8" glide just today, from shore, light rain. Forage is different here but...they're still predators! Tight lines, gringos!

All these goofy ass tournaments. Make things so damn complicated, they should keep score the way we did when we were little. Every fish counts with 2 lb. Minimum. Only good things can happen when these 2 fellas are pissed, y’all better watch out!!!
"It's called fishin not catchin" is a cousin of "It's not whether you win or win or lose, it's how you play the game." or even worse... "It's not about winning, it's all about fun." I think those cliches are either/or when it's actually both/and. If it's all about fun, then you're content with losing which makes you a loser who doesn't learn anything and you'll probably never experience the fun of winning. If it's all about winning then you don't have any fun and you feel like a loser if you don't win and you tend to overlook the things that you learned. DC and Wheeler are a good mix of fun and winning. You can tell they hate to lose but they still mix a lot of fun in there as evidenced by the amount of times I laughed out loud while trying to stay quiet in a houseful of sleeping humans! Sorry about the essay... I was feelin it. I'm out....DING!
