The comic book is good can’t say the same for the live action film adaptation that’s going to flop at the box office considering how they cast a Terrible actress for supergirl
Oh me too! I’m just sorry I waited so long, easily one of my favorite comic books I’ve read this year thus far. I am definitely starting to get into Tom King! I’m considering looking into his Mister Miracle or Strange Adventures runs. Have you read either of those by chance?
@@TheComicBookReport Those are both fantastic reads I can't recommend highly enough. I also think you will enjoy The Visions. I would start with Mister Miracle though, because it is closer in tone to this story and will bridge into some of his other books more.
@@vincentbatten4686 ok that’s really helpful feedback! :) I may look in to vision I am more of a marvel fan as just a generalization. But I’ve heard so much buzz on Mister Miracle I may need to seek that out next :) thanks!
@@drocksteadyreviews totally get that everyone has their preferred reads. There’s so much out there ha. This was my first supergirl book, I mostly picked it up because Tom King and James Gunn’s announcement but wow happy I gave it a shot. I ended up loving it
Loving the influx of DC reviews, Dom. Always nice to see some diversity among titles. Now that you’re hooked on non-Batman Tom King, you got to check out his magnum opus, Mister Miracle.
Yeah I’ve gone on a bit of a DC run recently haha. And thanks for the feedback! I was trying to decide on Mister Miracle or Strange Adventures from Tom King. Have you read Strange Adventures? 📚
@@TheComicBookReport Yes, I have. Both are excellent, non-canon storylines but I prefer Mister Miracle. *Mister Miracle* is more personal, about how Scott Free can escape anything except his trauma. If you've ever suffered depression, it's hard not to relate to the themes of the book: How depression warps reality and how to survive. As dark as it is, Scott's relationship with his wife, Big Barda, brings a lot of humanity and humor to the book. *Strange Adventures* is less character-based and more politically-driven, basically exploring the idea of the United States being in a "post-truth era" when Adam Strange is accused of horrific crimes. Mr. Terrific is assigned to investigate those accusations, and his moments in the book are the best, IMO. So, what are you more in the mood for? A character-based deconstruction about depression and reality, or a politically-themed mystery about the "post-truth" era?
@@jakebeninato9938 ok these breakdowns are immensely helpful. I did know a tad about that mister miracle series hearing others talk about it but I knew almost nothing about strange adventures. Definitely a lot to consider 🤔 While we’re talking about King have you read his Rorschach run?
@@TheComicBookReport No, I haven't. Based on what I've heard through ComicPop, it sounds thematically-similar to Strange Adventures, considering the politics and all.
@@jakebeninato9938 totally! After Batman I’m coming aboard the Tom King train, and after Supergirl I’m definitely eager to explore more titles. It does sound like Mister Miracle is a consistently high recommend 🤔📚 May try to snag a copy
I just bought my first Supergirl tpb: The last daughter of Krypton. If I like the character, this one will definitely be ordered. I know, as a kid, I had a huge crush on the Supergirl out of the 1984 movie. I hope that’s not going to happen again. My wife will not like that. 😉😂
I think supergirl fan or not this is a must read graphic novel recommendation from me. This is my first supergirl solo comic I’ve read but it was outstanding 👏📚 I’m definitely becoming a Tom King Fan! If you end up giving it a read you’ll have to let me know
I’ve definitely heard split opinions on that as well and I think arguments on both sides are valid, that being said I am a fan. It’s not my favorite Batman run but it is one I greatly enjoyed the whole way through and it’s definitely one I plan to revisit again in the future! I’ve done a review or two on some of his Batman deluxe editions. 🦇🦇🦇

So I did like Tom King’s Batman run. Not every single story hit with me but I think most did. I really like what he brought to the title. I haven’t read the others you’ve mentioned though I’d like to! Have you read Tom King’s Batman Killing Time? It was a stand-alone miniseries, I thought that was a great read too. And I highly recommend this book, I was blown away 👏👏👏📚

I read this 3 times, and each time i appreciated it a little more. One thing that confused me a bit was the ending. They kind of give you two different scenarios?
SPOILERS: The ending is they pull him out of the phantom zone many years later, and he's reformed. But in Ruthye's "book" Supergirl killed him during the climax. That's what got me confused.
@@crimefightingspider *SPOILER* ====== Ok I found this online: In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8, fans find out the answer, as Ruthye is unable to kill Krem due to Supergirl's influence, and he is instead imprisoned within the Phantom Zone to reflect and be rehabilitated. Throughout the series, the story is narrated by Ruthye, who writes a book about her adventures with Supergirl years later. However, at the end of the book Ruthye claims that Supergirl killed Krem. This is a fabrication made up by Ruthye at Supergirl's request so that Krem’s allies wouldn't know what really happened to him, and would focus their revenge on the superpowered Kryptonian. When Krem is released from the Phantom Zone decades later, he apologizes to Ruthye, who responds by cracking him over the head with her cane.
