I born in Thailand, but moved to US with my family for the past 50 years. I go back to Thailand many times. March, I was in Thailand with my American girlfriend for 2.5 weeks. We spend a lot of time southern Thailand and love it. I own a house in US and told my son, brothers and girlfriend that I might move to Thailand after I retire in 3 years. They support me and understand how easy to live there with the cost of living after retirement. Thanks for your video!

@jacksykes9112 - I have the same story! My family moved to the US when I was 2 years old. I am now 56 and I plan to take an early retirement in Thailand in the next 3-4 years. In the past 2 years, I have visited Thailand 3 times, each time for one month. I am planning my next trip in October for a month and while I am there I will check cities outside of Bangkok to retire. I love my adopted country of the US but I feel that Thailand will be a better fit for retirement. I like the cost of living, culture, the friendly people, and a more peaceful environment. I am a dual citizen so I don't have to worry about visas.

Same. I was born in Thailand and moved to the US at age 2. My business keeps me in the US but I would prefer to move to thailand. I think Asia is the future. I enjoy the culture of respect & as China progresses it brings all its neighbors up. It's hard to be an American in America and a Thai in Thailand but American in Thailand is big jump up.

@@jacksykes9112 - In April 2023, I went to Thailand to renew my expired Thai ID card and Thai passport. This was during the time of the Prime Minister's election so applying for a new or renewal was very closely monitored. Since I lived in the US my entire life, I had no records of ever living in Thailand which is correct. It was a nightmare trying to get my Thai ID renewed because the district offices I went to kept giving me the run around because they were suspicious of my background, thinking perhaps I was trying to steal someone else Thai identity! Thankfully, I had a Thai girlfriend at the time who worked for the Thai government, and she was able to vouch for my identity, even though, I had my Thai birth certificate, Thai expired passport, and expired Thai ID. As soon as I got my Thai ID, I was able to renew my Thai passport! Moral of the story? DO NOT let your Thai ID and Thai passport expire when you're overseas.

When I finish watching this clip. It reminds me of my neighbor in bangkok. She always give me some food almost everday when she finish cooking. I call her Grandma becoz she is around 90years old, but she has passed away almost 3 years. I still thinking of her kindness & generousity.
Eventhough, it is super hot summer time in Thailand but most of people here are still kind.
Please dont forget to watch thai movie name "How to make millions before grandma dies" in thai name "Lahn Mah" is very famous in asia.

As you went into Boots, there is also another great advantage to living here. You can get a lot of medicines which are very expensive back in the US over the counter here. Catch a food bug, no problem, grab some Cipro for 100 baht. Severe bug bite? Grab a steroid cream for 50 baht. Strep throat you say? Grab some Amoxy or any other antibiotic for the equivalent of $3 USD. My wife needed to have a molar extraced last week or face the dreaded root canal. Price? A whopping 400 baht and all done and dusted in under 30 minutes. Even with dental insurance back home, this would have costed us hundreds of dollars..

Healthcare here in the US is terrible. I cannot get a prompt health check-up even with insurance coverage. Not to mention, when I had a problem with my frozen shoulder, I had to go through various facilities such as my primary care doctor's office, the X-ray department, an MRI scan at a different location, an orthopedic doctor's office, a cortisone injection clinic, and physical therapy practices. The entire procedure of physical diagnosis and injections took about six months, with an additional six months for physical therapy. Yet, the pain in my shoulder is still not resolved. The entire treatment ordeal seems designed to serve the hospital, clinic, and medical businesses, as they only care about benefiting from insurance claims. In the end, the victims are American citizens who pay taxes.
Did you know that in Thailand, you can go to a one-stop service hospital without an appointment and without extra nonsense 'emergency charges'?

There are civil liberties and there is financial freedom. While you can live a better life in Thailand with less money, no other citizens in the world have as many civil liberties as Americans (too many at times, e.g. assault rifles and unlimited ammo). Did you not hear about the activist that died in prison for criticizing a law? In the U.S. you can yell pretty much anything you want at the President himself and nothing will happen to you. Nice video, Paul!
I really appreciate your views, and it was great to learn that you spent some time in Hawaii. I’m a middle-aged man sort of traveling down the career hill towards retirement (though still some years to go) and have been watching videos by lots of young guys like yourself living in SE Asia, as I’m considering the area (particularly Thailand) as a possible retirement destination for me and my wife. Much of what you say about Thailand, I would have said at your age about Taiwan, where I lived for 12 years and married into a Taiwanese family. My wife and I actually moved to Hawaii in 2006, where we raised our children. You’re correct…Hawaii is certainly one of the finest places in America. But it is very expensive, as limited in that it’s a chain of small islands with fewer than two million people at any given time…and also very remote from everything else in the world. So I’m looking for other, cheaper and more varied options for retirement. I’m glad you’re still happy after three years in Thailand!

As an American I can I definitely say that the US is not great, hasn't been great and will never be great. I have lived west coast, east coast and traveled all through this country. It's very toxic and self centered. I have traveled to South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, most of Europe and the best place I've been to was South Korea and Vietnam. Thailand is a wonderful country as well. Love your channel and keep doing what you're doing. My wife's mother was born in Thailand and my wife is going to apply for dual citizenship with us eventually moving there is about 3 years. Bros, I was in an international software company. Frankly, if you really want to work in Thailand, you must learn Thai language to be able to work with Thai colleagues!!! 🙏 I've never seen any foreign colleage who cannot communicate in Thai language except those who came to train us a short course such as one week time. Thai programmers are talented and fun to work with (not so stressful) but they are not fluent English speakers. I've worked with Indian programmers (sorry to mention it), they spoke English fluently but caused so many trouble in finishing job (I was a project leader, so I knew who worked well or just good at speaking). If you're a low level programmer who just take orders from your boss, you can be lazy to learn Thai language. 😂 But whenever you've subordinates, you'll be sad not learning Thai language. No need to speak Thai fluently, no need to be good at it so you can understand Thai literature. Just be able to discuss with your team in Thai language is enough. ❤
Your wife's mom will be able to help. Use Thai language when you're home, watch Thai news, movies, documentaries to help your ears familiar to Thai language as we all learn any language starting from listening. We can speak before read or write since we're a baby because we listened, right? Also, you can find an online course from foreigners in Thailand such as a RUclipsr named Gary Butler - The Roaming Cook etc. Life will be hard if you're lazy. 😅 But life will be easy, if you do what you need to do though you don't want to do it. 😉
      Best regards, 🙏

I have been to Thailand many times. The positive vibe in Thailand is very good. I live in Southern California near the ocean so I feel very lucky. But I would never waste time dating American women. I consider the U.S. as monk mode for a single man, because the quality and attitude of American w-m-n in general is not a compliment to a man's life. Thailand is much warmer in many ways. When in Thailand even if you don't have a GF you a have many options for female companionship which is a much more balanced life. The U.S. is just a place to make money and save the money to enjoy in Thailand.

I grew up in the NYC area and worked in the City until Covid sent me home. Now I work remote and have not been in the City for years. I never really had safety concerns (surprised you were worried about it), but I totally agree with you about the hustle culture and dog eat dog feel. I quickly got into a compete with the Jones mentality and totally changed. Once I stopped working in the City so much I realized how much I had changed and started reverting back to something akin to my old self. I am thinking about retiring in Thailand in 7 or 8 years (hence why I am watching your videos) and I laughed when you discussed Hawaii as I briefly considered it as a potential retirement home, but the expense ended those thoughts quickly. I do see Thailand as a poor man's Hawaii of sorts- at least in terms of the tropical weather and chill lifestyle. Though I do need to see if I can deal with the hot/rainy season and the burning season's pollution. But old people love hot weather, right? That is why so many retire in Florida...so I think I will be able to adjust. Plus, having the a reasonable income by US standards should allow for a pretty lux lifestyle with lots of AC if needed.

I agree with you on a the fact that once you live somewhere for awhile, you're in home mode and not party mode. I lived in Thailand for 1.5 years and felt I had to leave because I wasn't taking full advantage of the party-mode. Sure, I did that for the first 6 months but then settled into home mode. Thailand is just so super convenient that someone like me can get really lazy. I also see some of the same behavior in some of the expats there. Another reason why I left was because the pollution got really bad, and then there is the new overseas tax rule. For me, Thailand needs to be a place I visit and have fun. The convenience is a huge trap to make me a lazy blob.

I want to visit Thailand so badly! Maybe even live there. It's crazy, but I swear Thailand calls to me. I'm tired of the USA. California has lost its thrill for me. But I'm poor, so I have to live through other people's video vlogs of their time in Thailand. Congratulations on your move there!

I vacation in Thailand at least once a year. Made many friends there and my girlfriend is from there. It's an amazing place to live if you already have a decent income. The value you get for your dollars is insane. If you have little wealth, that isn't the place for you. Hard to make a living.

@stephl6616 - if you have a college degree, you can teach English in Thailand. Depending on your qualifications, some schools will provide a condo. Thailand has a way to go to reach fluency like in the Philippines. There are other visas in Thailand such as Education visa (learning Thai, cooking, muay Thai), Volunteer visa, work visa, elite visa, retirement visa...etc.

Paul its awesome that you were able to move to Thailand to experience a different lifestyle. I did the same thing being young and having the freedom to choose where you want to live is a dream life. Thailand is much better than other places I have visited corruption is not as bad in Thailand like it is in the Philippines, India and the other countries I have been to.
Only thing I didn't like about Thailand is the hot weather traffic. Ignore the haters they are just jealous that you are living an awesome exciting life with your beautiful girlfriend. Keep sharing your adventures with us.

I think for me I don’t want to really travel around too much if I do move overseas. Like I want to find a place in Asia and sortve stay in that area, but I haven’t picked a place yet. I know I would be a minority there for obvious reasons too so that’s a factor as well since I may have to move to more of a touristy area. Also hoping for aesthetics and low cost of living/socializing. But yay I’m definitely interested in trying to move somewhere someday. Going to manifest this for myself next year ☺️

Omg you just said something that hit me like a ton of bricks. Living in the US and being a "minority." I've been in the US for almost 50 yrs (I'm 53) but I'm still not considered American, not fully anyways. I have always wondered what it would feel like to live in a country where I'm part of the majority. I grew up in NYC and lived in Atlanta for almost a decade. Still have family there. I feel you!!

We lived for 5 years in Thailand before moving back to our home in Hawaii. Probably not the Hawaii you saw as we live on a mountain on an outer island. But we do still love Thailand & have a home there too which we visit for 3 months a year. While we do love it & may return full time someday? I do have a couple of niggles there...1- Worst air pollution in the world at times of the year...2- Is Immigration can be a PITA...3- Is that 60 people die per day at the scene of the road accidents not counting those that die either in the ambulance or at the hospital. But yes like you we do love Thailand even with those warts 😉

How the heck do you keep a brachycephalic dog in Thailand? They struggle to breathe when it's hotter than 80F?! Heatstroke is a very real issue for them I loved my pugs and OMG they couldn't go outside in the summer time, even in northern US states.

I'm 52, married to a Filipina, and I always tell Americans the same thing, which most can not understand or relate to because they have never left their front porch: "America is a great place to make your money....retire early...and then move out of the country." We move to the Philippines this year.
