Things happen for a reason an as much as the pandemic ...sucks HERE we are SCORING a great positive thing. Its very nice seein an readin others who know the importance of bringin our joy into our circumstances when we can rather than lettin crappy circumstances dictate our joy.
One thing I appreciate about Mark is he never bragged about trashing hotels, escapades with underaged groupies, wrecking cars and he never became a drug addict by the grace of God. It's all about the music. It can be hard driving rock, rhythm and blues, or funk. He has a deep spiritual understanding that the interviewer tried to steer him away from, but I enjoy stories about the band and how Mark came up with the music for American Band and how he let Don take credit for the whole song. I don't know what happened to Don but it just goes to show you that you can let life make you bitter or you can keep a loving attitude and thrive. There's no excuse for Don to act like such a piss ant but it is a life lesson. In my opinion, as a fan, Don doesnt deserve Mark - Period.

Saw them live in '70, still remember it...small venue, first song was "Are You Ready"...Farner came from offstage right playing the opening riff sliding across the stage on his knees. Best 70s band ever .. But YEP, no Farner, it was all over !!!
The only way we see them back together and probably for one night only is if they get that phone call for the Rock n Roll hall of fame which is well past due
Mark has been one of my neighbors for over thirty years. Genuinely as kind and layed back family man as he is talented. (Mark how about a neighborhood party once this pandemic is over?) Been missing doing the Locomotion ! Love ya old man!

Ah hah wheat grass and ginseng (he mentioned that in an interview). I saw him in the GFR in the 70s, i had the front row seat (which i wound up standing on.) Was amazed at how professional and talented he was! Saw many concerts but his live "Im Your Captain" just blew my mind at his confidence with none of the arrogance other performers had shown as filler for less talent/looks lol i guess now. He does have a great genuine smile. I was probably around 17 when i had the blessing of acquiring the memory of fully engulfed in live music i had previously discovered via radio then albums my chore money went on. Great times.

That was the last time got the chance to talk was back before this pandemic crap. My wife and I were cracking up after watching his interview. He was saying he didn't get his deer this year. We were on our way into town going past his place and I pointed out all the deer tracks out in front of his house. I can't talk I haven't bought a license in 3yrs.

So good to see one of my rock-n-roll heroes. "Closer to Home" was huge when I was a pre-teen...it really was Grand Funk! I love the story of them blowing Led Zeppelin off the stage in '69 at the Texas International Pop Festival not far from me now, just north of Dallas, Texas.

Mark Farner has to be one of the nicest, most sincere people on Earth. He is what you see, and that should never change. He's totally happy and content, and loves to talk about the band with no animosity.
The guy was tremendous. In the mid 90's sometime when Farner was touring doing the smaller night club concerts, he swung through town here in SLC Ut. He was just killing it and what was so awesome to watch is everyone was so into it, even Mark. He actually stepped into the middle of the dance floor amongst all of us folks rockin out and he just jammin the guitar with us all out on the floor. Really kind of just turned into a party, like a bunch of friends.

Michigan musicians... Wow, all I can remember is that there was something about knowing that it was the place of Motown. I lived south of Detroit and there were 3 FM stations playing rock. If there were commercials on one, you switch to another. So, we heard it all. Mark's idea about the big 3 auto-makers pulling folk in makes sense. I don't think many people understand the difference between a record vs CD... It's hard to describe.
Early 70s Vegas, i had the front row seat Directly in front of Mark SO of course i STOOD ON THE SEAT, HAD TO DO SOME SERIOUS DANCING while absorbing moments of a LIFETIME (including I'm Your Captain...Locomotion...!!!) Still feel blessed to have gained those memories. 🙏👍💪🙏😎😀🙏💙
Grand Funk/Freddie King was my first Big League concert. November 30th, 1972 @ Forum in Inglewood, Ca. I remember them walking on stage to slowly intensifying strobe lights and the sound of a locomotive also speeding up! So cool!! And yes, I wasn't hearing so good for the next week either! 🤘😂👂🎸🎶

My late best friend band mate guitarist and I ambushed Mark at the Hilton hotel in New mexico 1973. We were like 13 lol. He gave us 4 tickets to his concert that night. Really nice guy. He had the longest hair I've ever seen on a man. Buff and confident. Walked like a barbarian king LOL. My sister used to write for the local paper the music review and we'd fan out on gig night often to get her interviews. We met alot of bands like that. People we're cool back then, approachable and kind. P.S. I'm glad Marks a Christian, And yes brother, I think only one person in the Bible ever met the almighty. Met Mark at a friends wedding (that he officiated). He is just the nicest guy ever. He somehow managed to spend time with everyone, and always had a smile and a kind word. For me, it was a chance to thank one of my guitar mentors, and one of the first guys in Rock N Roll that said, "it's okay to be a Christian musician". "Creepin", is still my all time favorite song. What a great guy! I was sitting on the back stage stairs 18 years old, back stage pass, 1974 in Shreveport LA. and out comes GFR for their sound check. Mark Farner the all time rock king stopped adjust some stuff and said "hi, how ya doin". I was so stunned and speechless I didn't ask for an autograph or anything. Awesome concert!

Love love love GFR and my older sister went to a GFR concert and was so excited for it, went and was up front and she made it 30 minutes before the band made her faint. She was a tall beautiful girl and as a kid I knew your music thru my 4 older sisters. I thank them for exposing a 10 yo to love music so much and would have loved to have seen the greatest band ever! I have been in love with Mark forever! Love and appreciation ❤️

What a good soul. I saw GFR as first rock concert in 71. Sold out show more people crashed through the lobby and it was a great rockin show. Bloodrock opened as Terry Knight produced that band as well and they were good opener. Saw GFR in 74.. then in 81 then the last time in 98 in SW Ohio the only reunion tour. Been a big fan and can always dig the albums as timeless as they are. And have the Long Beach Calif show on VHS from 74. It being a Japanese production company that got it out to the world. Had burned it to DVD as the VHS part of the DVD recorder went out. The Live Album just love so much as I do the Red Album. And on that Red Album Mark gives the cover Inside Looking Out a whole new meaning in that guitar he gave that song and Mel is so in the pocket on that bass. TNUC Don and the solo live on that song just as killer as live on Live Album as you hear it on On Time album. And the Shinin On lp and We're An American Band lp E Pluribus Funk and Caught In The Act Live these albums are such greatness to listen to. And the Live 1971 Tour album they had out is cool as well. The other albums are just some things to listen to as to GFR stuff. Thanks to Mark and GFR for the all out powerhouse shows.😊
The greatest live video performance was 1969's Inside Looking Out. I've seen it over and over and over and still gives me goosebumps every time. Best live performance by any band ever imho.
Best concert I ever went to was Grand Funk back in the 70's! Wow! I was hoarse, half deaf and sore from stompin' and clapping for half a week from that! Big time worth it! hahaha! :)
I was born in Flint right by Averille Ave and the McDonalds he was talking about. Born in 65 so I was kinda young but watched them grow. My uncle Stoney was friends with Mark and lived right down the street from me but I never actually met Mark. I hope to someday. The man is Grand Funk just like Brian is the Beach Boy.
Hey Larry....you mentioned the concert in Frankfurt. I was stationed near there in the army, but saw the Funk play at Schweinfurt in summer of 71. It was a free concert for GIs held at an army air base with Humble Pie with a stage made of flatbed trailers and illuminated by 3 tank spotlights. Great show but it wasn't listed in the history of both group's performances.
I don't have the Platters, but I have T-shirts with the logo's on it and Pictures, when you played at the Variety Playhouse, back in I think it was 2016, great show! I'm 60 now, been listening to GFR since I was around 15, also saw ya"ll during Grand Funk's reunion at the Variety Playhouse, in Atlanta, Keep Rocking Mark! Don's Bastard child, the reformed Grand Funk Railroad is a farce, they suck. The current incarnation of Grand Funkless is a sad shadow of the original.. Mark Farner's American Band outdazzles Grand Funkless up to 11!! 41:30 ... lol! For years, and I mean decades I had no idea what T.N.U.C. meant until I asked my younger brother and he looked at me with the "are you serious?!" look and told me to spell it backwards .... Ooooooh! 🤣 And that last bit of acapella put such a smile on my face!!! I can imagine others singers hemming and hawing, " aw, my voice isn't up to it right now etc" he jumps right in with such a joy!!!
My fav band and soundtrack of my life since i was 10yo. I am from Malaysia, and i owe it to my late brother, who borrowed GFR's vinyl records from his friends and play it on his mono turntable. I would buy these records on my own when i studied in Australia, and continied listening to GFR Live Album throught the 80's until today. Never a day passes by with me not playing at least a song from that Live Album. Mark Farner, i just wanna say God Bless You for bringing us joy with your music.
There is nobody in the rock biz that worked any harder than this guy. GFR was originally a 3-pc. band and that says it all. It's all you...no horns, keys, or back-up singers. Make a mistake, everyone's going to hear about it. These guys were as tight as a gnat's ass and Farner was at the very top of the game. At the time, it didn't get any better. It would be difficult to find a drummer today that wails through songs anything like Don Brewer did...maybe that Dave Grohl guy from Foo Fighters.

Grand Funk had two front men, Brewer and Farner. Of course, Farner was able to move around because he played guitar, but both of them had great vocals and energy. If you had the two of them you have Grand Funk, without either, it's just not the same. Don Brewer might be the only drummer who would qualify as a front man, and Farner was a great front man
In the past we had some great movies telling the stories of some of the best musician and their orchistras, and sitting here listening to Mark Farner and the beginnings of Grand Funk, Well !!...here is a good movie wanting to be made !!....And that goes for many others.

Grand Funk/Freddie King was my first Big League concert. November 30th, 1972 @ Forum in Inglewood, Ca. I remember them walking on stage to slowly intensifying strobe lights and the sound of a locomotive also speeding up! So cool!! And yes, I wasn't hearing so good for the next week either! 🤘😂👂🎸🎶

My late best friend band mate guitarist and I ambushed Mark at the Hilton hotel in New mexico 1973. We were like 13 lol.
He gave us 4 tickets to his concert that night. Really nice guy. He had the longest hair I've ever seen on a man. Buff and confident. Walked like a barbarian king LOL.
My sister used to write for the local paper the music review and we'd fan out on gig night often to get her interviews. We met alot of bands like that. People we're cool back then, approachable and kind.
P.S. I'm glad Marks a Christian, And yes brother, I think only one person in the Bible ever met the almighty. Moses and when God told him to go retrieve the people, he asked, "but Lord who do I say sent me? "

Met Mark at a friends wedding (that he officiated). He is just the nicest guy ever. He somehow managed to spend time with everyone, and always had a smile and a kind word.
For me, it was a chance to thank one of my guitar mentors, and one of the first guys in Rock N Roll that said, "it's okay to be a Christian musician".

What a great guy! I was sitting on the back stage stairs 18 years old, back stage pass, 1974 in Shreveport LA. and out comes GFR for their sound check. Mark Farner the all time rock king stopped adjust some stuff and said "hi, how ya doin". I was so stunned and speechless I didn't ask for an autograph or anything. Awesome concert!

Incredible high natural Voice and Great guitarist and keyboardist. More importantly A song writer of hits.. Survival is my favorite album. I liked Grand funk better than Van halen but that's my opinion.

Love love love GFR and my older sister went to a GFR concert and was so excited for it, went and was up front and she made it 30 minutes before the band made her faint. She was a tall beautiful girl and as a kid I knew your music thru my 4 older sisters. I thank them for exposing a 10 yo to love music so much and would have loved to have seen the greatest band ever! I have been in love with Mark forever! Love and appreciation ❤️
OK, Mark has his take on using God's name in vain, but some of us believe that the too-often inappropriate use of God's name, especially to curse or show disgust for something or somebody that irritates/angers you, is what breaks the commandment.

Zep bored the hell out of me when i saw them live twice. Grand Funk was electric and extreme energy like not many.

What a good soul. I saw GFR as first rock concert in 71. Sold out show more people crashed through the lobby and it was a great rockin show. Bloodrock opened as Terry Knight produced that band as well and they were good opener. Saw GFR in 74.. then in 81 then the last time in 98 in SW Ohio the only reunion tour. Been a big fan and can always dig the albums as timeless as they are. And have the Long Beach Calif show on VHS from 74. It being a Japanese production company that got it out to the world. Had burned it to DVD as the VHS part of the DVD recorder went out. The Live Album just love so much as I do the Red Album. And on that Red Album Mark gives the cover Inside Looking Out a whole new meaning in that guitar he gave that song and Mel is so in the pocket on that bass. TNUC Don and the solo live on that song just as killer as live on Live Album as you hear it on On Time album. And the Shinin On lp and We're An American Band lp E Pluribus Funk and Caught In The Act Live these albums are such greatness to listen to. And the Live 1971 Tour album they had out is cool as well. The other albums are just some things to listen to as to GFR stuff. Thanks to Mark and GFR for the all out powerhouse shows.😊
The greatest live video performance was 1969's Inside Looking Out. I've seen it over and over and over and still gives me goosebumps every time. Best live performance by any band ever imho.

I was born in Flint right by Averille Ave and the McDonalds he was talking about. Born in 65 so I was kinda young but watched them grow. My uncle Stoney was friends with Mark and lived right down the street from me but I never actually met Mark. I hope to someday. The man is Grand Funk just like Brian is the Beach Boy.

Hey Larry....you mentioned the concert in Frankfurt. I was stationed near there in the army, but saw the Funk play at Schweinfurt in summer of 71. It was a free concert for GIs held at an army air base with Humble Pie with a stage made of flatbed trailers and illuminated by 3 tank spotlights. Great show but it wasn't listed in the history of both group's performances.

GFR was big with the troops in the 1970s. There wasn't a barracks party ever held in Germany that GFR wasn't blasting out of the barracks.

I don't have the Platters, but I have T-shirts with the logo's on it and Pictures, when you played at the Variety Playhouse, back in I think it was 2016, great show! I'm 60 now, been listening to GFR since I was around 15, also saw ya"ll during Grand Funk's reunion at the Variety Playhouse, in Atlanta, Keep Rocking Mark! Don's Bastard child, the reformed Grand Funk Railroad is a farce, they suck. They played in Perry, Georgia, (my home town) at the National Fairgrounds, where I worked at the time, and they pure sucked, NO MARK NO FUNK! Love ya brother, God Bless!

My fav band and soundtrack of my life since i was 10yo.
I am from Malaysia, and i owe it to my late brother, who borrowed GFR's vinyl records from his friends and play it on his mono turntable.
I would buy these records on my own when i studied in Australia, and continied listening to GFR Live Album throught the 80's until today.
Never a day passes by with me not playing at least a song from that Live Album.
Mark Farner, i just wanna say God Bless You for bringing us joy with your music.
There is nobody in the rock biz that worked any harder than this guy. GFR was originally a 3-pc. band and that says it all.
It's all you...no horns, keys, or back-up singers. Make a mistake, everyone's going to hear about it.
These guys were as tight as a gnat's ass and Farner was at the very top of the game. At the time, it didn't get any better.
It would be difficult to find a drummer today that wails through songs anything like Don Brewer did...maybe that Dave Grohl guy from Foo Fighters.

Grand Funk had two front men, Brewer and Farner. Of course, Farner was able to move around because he played guitar, but both of them had great vocals and energy. If you had the two of them you have Grand Funk, without either, it's just not the same.
Don Brewer might be the only drummer who would qualify as a front man, and Farner was a great front man

In the past we had some great movies telling the stories of some of the best musician and their orchistras, and sitting here listening to Mark Farner and the beginnings of Grand Funk, Well !!...here is a good movie wanting to be made !!....And that goes for many others.
