@@geraldroraback5432 I wished that were true--unfortunately, Credence Clearwater went into the RRHOF without John Fogerty, and just like Mark Farner--he, too, wrote most all their epic songs and was the undisputed leader of the band
@@impalaman9707 is that right? bloody hell thats a travesty! hope it doesnt happen to mark,it just wouldnt be right but nothing surprises me with that institution,it stinks.
Mark farner is an awesome guy, musically of course, but as a fellow American he's a patriot, we love you too mark, God bless you and God bless America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm 63 and just recently saw GFR's live performance of Inside Looking Out. OMG. Best live performance I've ever seen. 3 dudes slaying their individual instruments, funk, blues, soul, rock, raw! No synthesizers or taped background music....just microphones placed in front of the drums and the bass and guitar corded up to amps. Truly epic.
This is one of the greatest interviews I've ever seen with Mark. I interviewed him in 1987 in Austin, Texas when he played the old Back Room on Riverside Drive. He was so nice and his wife is so fine, Lisa. His oldest son, Jason was there, too. One of his greatest song Mark's ever written was called "Well Done". Just a great Christian song. Love my Grand Funk and love my life with Jesus Christ, too.
Wow! A man so far ahead he predicted the future of the trash that is available to this day. My respect for him has no bounds after this amazing interview. The man is truly blessed.
Just love this. Warning: Once you start, you are in for the whole 54 minutes. Very compelling. He's so well spoken on his artistry and the nastiness of the business side. Comes across as a genuinely good person. His passion for making music and turning on audiences is palpable. Great recall and retelling of detail on personal, family, business, spiritual and artistic matters. Whether one agrees or not, you can appreciate how articulate he is politically. Kills me how underappreciated Farner and GFR are. Such pure rock n roll greatness. That story about Led Zeppelin (about 15:00) shows that.
Terry Knight was like King Saul and Mark Farner was (and still is) like King David. I love you brother Farner. Keep singing those gospel songs. You will have a place in our Lord Jesus Christ's Kingdom!!
Since the first time I heard them, Mark farner has been the VOICE of Grand Funk. Although you can hear the distinct sounds of Don's drums and Mel's bass lines, Mark is Gand Funk. More RESPECT to this down-to-earth man, full of humility and virtue.
I met Mark at The Swamp in 1985 to remix some tunes we recorded in Nashville. I didn’t expect him to be there but he made a great impression on me as a musician and a very talented artist not to mention a great guy.
Mark is the best, down to earth and genuine as they come. Back in the day I was in awe of his music, energy, stage presence, now I find myself in awe of his resilience and good nature. And honestly how cool is it Mark hung out and became friends with Steve Marriott!!
I am Bosnian musician and i loved Grand Funk Rairoad music. Had several LP albums when i was young. Now i am 60. Thank you for your music and your concert yo played for Bosnia. You are great human being Mr. Mark Farner and great American patriot. Did watch your interview with great attention. Thank you. God bless you.
I had a rock band when I was teenager and we played at a high school. One of the songs was “ inside looking out” we played it Grand Funk style and every body liked it so much, they asked us to play it again. Mark Farner was my hero then, and Grand Funk was our favorite band. I enjoyed this interview a lot.
Gotta love Mark; we are so much in sync in more ways than one. This interview was some years ago and it sounds prophetic nowadays. I would love to meet him in person!
Reflecting while I listen to this I finally put my finger on what it is about Mark Farner's music. Happy. I always feel happy listening to Grand Funk Railroad music. Even when he forces you to reach deep inside of your soul you still come out the other side feeling a little bit cleaner from the excursion.
It shows this man was taken advantage of way too many times...and yet has a wonderful outlook on life...this is a great interview...nice job by the interviewer...
Loved this interview, Love GFR, you are the quintessential lead guitarist ,lead singer and straight out Rock n Roller . You are True to yourself and to the music . Yes GFR should be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . I am proud to say I have seen you in concert, met you backstage and chat a bit with you Mark. And I have all 3 of your autographs on an album. ❤️❤️❤️
terrific interview - thanks for taking us along. Deff worth the watch. Loved the 2A reference @ 24:55 -- Loved the Christian Belief and declaration @ 33:00 . Loved Farner & the Railroad.!!
Excellent interview! Thanks for posting. Mark is a true musical pioneer! He definitely told the truth about real talented musicians never getting a record deal and how it's who you know etc... I'm a musician, I play guitar and bass and a little piano. I can read, write and transpose music but yet all these crap uh I mean rap bands out there who have absolutely no musical talent, who couldn't tell an 1/8 note from a 1/2 rest and couldn't play a musical instrument if they tried, but yet they make millions just by talking Ebonics into a mic about smacking his woman up while smoking a blunt and drinking a 40. But yet a real and talented musician who writes and plays great music can't make it in the music biz!!
Great interview. Mark's the best and unequivocally my biggest musical influence ever. Thank you Mark. You're a total class act. I have been wondering for years about the guitar he used on E Pluribus Funk. Yes. That is quintessential GFR. I always suspected it was that white SG. Now I know.
I was made aware of Grand Funk during their Red Album! A year prior I had joined a band playing bass guitar in high school to help them do a talent show we won second place playing Long Train Running by the Doobie Bros. Moved to another high school joined a real rock band and we started covering GFR! I became an album collector and developed a very impressive GFR library, Starting with Terry Knight and the Pack, The Pack, Flint (with only Don and Mel), All the GFR albums and many Mark Farner solo albums! Quite an amazing band! Too bad it ended the way it did!
Mark's the greatest I listen to the music when I was growing up and I started playing the guitar and the bass and I know a little bit of it he plays great five stars
Very down to earth guy gives good advice on life beautiful story about his son and still jams and rocks keep it going Mark and never retire keep jamming
This man is a beautiful soul,i LOVE listening to his stories hes so funny and articulate he has wonderful memories! Just makes you feel that you have known him for years.....bless you Mark, love ya x
Yes very down to earth , but high on soul !! Mark has always said ( the power of the people) well the power of the fans should get together & help put the real GF back at least for one US tour & that goes for keybroad player C-Frost. Seger can wait or take a long vac somewhere.
Mark Farner, The best artist and of greatest guitar player of the world. Mark may God, our Creator and most high, bless and protect you and your love ones. Peace to everyone~.~Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad, period! Peace to everyone~.~
as a young black teenager (15-16) growing up in the 70's all my friends jammed GFR 'Live', schmokin' weed, drinkin' wine! (eh most of turned out ok! lol)
The greatest garage rock band of all time. But let me say this, Terry Knight got his in the end when his daughter's boyfriend stabbed him to death in Waco, Texas sometime in the 90's. Karma is a mother fucker in ANY business. Mark is a survivor because Mark has Jesus Christ in his life. Enough said on that subject.
I was at Pirates World in Hollywood for the concert. I was part of the crowd that was locked out. There was a big rock fight with the cops and after about 30 minutes of rocks and tear gas the gates were opened and we got in. It was general admission seating so I snaked my way to the front and watched an incredible performance. Also saw you at Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami and you announced the Live album would be recorded there that night. We left out a little early because the building had filled up with reefer and we were getting a buzz. Never seen so much dope being smoked in front of dozens of cops that did nothing about it. It was an awesome concert.
All the music industry does is try to rob the artists of their work. Why is rhis still legal? Disgusting amounts of power and greed. But Mark rocks. Greatest front man ever, a decent man with awesome talent and integrity. It takes courage and strength to confess your faith. God Bless him.
My first concert was in summer 1970 at the LA forum featuring Grand Funk Railroad with Pacific Gas and Electric opening. By August I was in Vietnam Nam listening to their first album. I later became a Christian also. God Bless.
Mark talking about pulling into Shea Stadium in a cop car reminds me of that line from Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion"--"I pulled into town in a police car!"
Totally natural, no pretensions or pretentiousness, he speaks it from the heart. I hear truth and love. Maybe in his younger days with hair to his waist, adored by millions, there might have been some arrogance. But I can see the hubris has given way to a good clean confidence.
Mark has a respected opinion of current music industry. Anybody reading between the lines can see his honesty about the level of actual talent now in the industry. He's probably too diplomatic to really spell it out.
Dear Mr. Mark Farner...i have enjoyed being a fan of yours my whole life. I wanted to ask you if you ever recorded any music w another music legend ? Thnx beau st john
Same,! Yet I live in England where nobody's even heard of them. 58 now and still love them. I was lucky enough to pick up a German pressing of 'Live Album' on a recent tripto the coast. I purchsed the original album 2nd hand at age 9 in 1973. Their records are so rare here in the UK but i managed to buy a copy of the coveted Red Album last year and I still haven't taken it out of the bag, I can't bring myself to even look at it let alone play it,!
There is no Grand Funk without Mark Farner
