Hes a very laid dude with a huge passion for life, wife and family........ His talent range is 5 times what you see & hear from his Grand Funk music....... Mark Farner IS Grand Funk Railroad...... Don and Mel owe anything and everything they have to Mark's talent... PERIOD!

      Don an Mel are solid in their own right ! And they are the Railroad without doubt! But just part ! Shouldn't consider going as G.F.R.R. ! That's pushing it ! But think about them? Without Farner they need as much of his juju as they can get ! Think about it.Its a HUGE compliment to Farner ! And as sneaky as it IS,they want to be frontmen at any shimmy price ! That's LOW DOWN ! But very SAD for those two ! Mark knows just as us all ! Going back to the roots an present day ! Hats Off to Farner ! Once again !!!

    Mark Farner is a true class act and great musician. His story telling ability is mesmerizing. He captures the era of the peak and decline of the auto industry and saw it wasn't the life for him. He developed into an incredible guitarist and has one of the most original soulful rock voices you will ever hear. Play on Mark!

      His draw back was what happened in the early 1970's. GFR was a non drug band, and they had a stigma around them because of that. Their past will continue to haunt them...

    There are a lot of things I don't understand about the music business, but I really don't understand why groups like the Dave Clark Five, Jefferson Airplane, Santana (the band, not the guitarist), The Ventures, The Lovin' Spoonful, Black Sabbath and The Hollies are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Grand Funk Railroad isn't. GFR should be there as a band, and Mark Farner should be there as an individual. As someone else has already said, at the age of 66, he can still sing like he could at 20, and that's not an easy thing to do, with as much stress and strain as he's put his vocal cords through. Plus, he's one of the greatest rock guitarists in history.

    • @terrypussypower
      @terrypussypower 9 лет назад +12

      +Woody Thames The Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame is a fucking JOKE. For me, all the bands you mentioned have every right to be in there, but what's more egregious is the inclusion of Madonna, Donna Summer, Abba, Grandmaster Flash (who's great, but not R'n'R!) ,Michael Jackson, Jackson Browne and James Taylor over the likes of Grand Funk Railroad and Blue Oyster Cult! There even putting Green Day in there over Grand Funk And BOC!

      +terrypussypower All true. No Doobies either. No ELP! F'in incompetent.

    • @drammengrunalf4160
      @drammengrunalf4160 7 лет назад +2

      The Doobies, the other bands mentioned by woody ran their course as pick ups from other bands. They are dead - let them die. Don Brewer will not let Mark Farner have any moment in the sun. His attorney poached him and that is the great Jew Music industry as it really is...

      Hall of fame is a diversity club. 3 white guys from flint michigan will never get in. If they were from berkely or new york they would open their arms... Their music will be around hundreds of years from now and be remade many times.. Grand Funk was magic and it does not matter about the Hall of Fame or any other controversy. Fastest band to sell out shea stadium in history. Future musicians will know who Grand Funk was...

    I saw Grand Funk twice. First time was in 1968, they were just starting to break. They came to Indy and played the Armory, a really small downtown venue. 3 years later I had run off to California and they played The Forum in LA. It was the BIG TIME. Mark did a back flip while playing the guitar and slid across the stage James Brown style!

Back in the good old days of the car building business you were almost guaranteed a cradle to grave existence in a auto plant but not your sanity once they were done with you. And when you secured your existence in this work a day lifestyle it was hard to escape unless your job was eliminated which eventually happened to almost everybody in the auto manufacturing paradise known as Michigan.

The same thing happened with Terry Knight,the original band member from before GFR,who then became their manager(original) ,then ripped them for 57 mil. Funny ,and sad,how Knight would later be stabbed to death, in a bizarre turn of events,by an obviously undisciplined young man, a boyfriend of his daughter's.

      I hate what Knight did, but they fucked up when they broke that contract, expensive lesson.Yeah Mark's a legend, love his voice , his swagger, that messenger guitar... He was and will always be GFR..... Mark should team up with Ginger Baker :) Ginger would show Don how to really drum !

    WHY would his "turning Christian" have to "ruin it" for you?
    (btw- wouldn't you capitalize Buddhist, Islamic, or Jewish? Why the diss?)
    Sounds like another mind closed by good-intentioned bad witnesses.
    Not all who claim Christ's name act like Him, or ever even knew him at all.
    Who (in religion) hurt you or pissed you off?
    (btw- notice I DID NOT capitalize "religion"!)

    If you are some "Living Legend" entity, don't you think you can give YT a phone # so that you can upload a video longer than 10 minutes. Waste of time hunting these things down.

    Laid off from high school, lol. That alone sounds like line from a rock song. He is NOT what I expected from a rock star. He's so laid back that if he was with 4 other guys talking about fishing, I would not pick him as the one who played in screaming rock band.

    Dont forget that Mark turned christian - I grew up wanting to be like him, and when I discovered he was christian it was ruined for me. I'd like to hear Don's take on this whole story.

    With the decline of the economy (by design from the progressives), the talent will leave as well. Reminiscing is fun, but that was then and this is now...

    Yes, I'm Atheist, and his turning into a fruitloop is what killed GFR.

      You're completely wrong. What killed GFR was Terry Knight and Don Brewer screwing Mark.
