I love being able to listen to a musician who clearly has mastered an instrument so fully he plays it almost effortlessly while making something sound so beautiful.
Guitarist here, gotta say I absolutely LOVE hearing great bass solos, especially great melodic ones like this one and Tal Wilkenfeld type solos. Much respect to the bass and bassists, and while I joke about bassists, I know it's NOT easy to play the instrument well and fill the role we need you to. I hope people begin to pay more attention to the bassists, it's probably the most underrated commonly played instrument.
The is the greatest bass solo ever, so much soul and groove inside it, you just want to cry of joy when listening to this. Victor, thank you for your music and inspiration.
I began bass gitar to one week ago. I was hesitately. But now, I'm happier than before FOR Victor Wooten and I have seen him first time :) He's not human. In my opinion, he's alien for me :)
I love how he always sounds simply better than all those posers just playing arpeggios up and down the fretboard. His music is truly heartfelt and damn he's got a tight groove that simply catches you
I think many people miss the point here. The main point of this solo is not to show off fast-playing technique, but to let the audience hear the beautiful and emotional combination of sounds, in which the insanely fast-played solo fits perfectly.
Thumbs up if you feel like this music you can feel in your soul, you can feel him threw the bass, I'm in grade 10 and wish I could play like this, it blows my mind of the agility and feel. It speaks to my soul
Watched this, picked up my bass, tried to do the same, epically failed, cried myself to sleep while listening to more Wooten insanity #IWISHICOULDDOTHAT!!
The dislikes become meaningless when viewing this awesome performer. They should be replaced with "if you have no clue about music or talent, click here"
It's great that sometimes such coincidence happens that Talent meets Precise Technique, then they join Pure Tact and Unfeigned Art to finally combine their forces and Victor Wooten is born.
@CRVZS Yeah a few years ago i thought it was a warwick until i looked it up. lol. Thanks for putting this info up a few years ago when i asked what kind of bass it was.
All instruments take talent to master and play in their own way. Vocals, harmonica, bass, drums, guitar, bongos, harp. All instruments. lets end the argument with that, every instrument has it's difficulties and it;s millions of ways to play it in different styles.
it's not wonder he's 1 of the world's best bass players. I have a friend of mine that knows him personally, and he says Victor's one of the most down 2 earth guys in the business!!
You always know there is going to be some epic playing when you see victor's thumb, there could be no thumb, then you see the thumb and your like oh man here it come!
he knows exactly how not to show off too much, he really grooves just right, but still play and make everyone think "He's better than me, I'm terrible" hahahah
@Mrteds20 Its not so much the instrument itself, but rather the person behind it that makes it important. In a lot of cases, espically in todays music, it takes a back seat to the guitar. There are however some cases (Victor Wooten, John Myung to name some) where it really shines.
True prodigies are Victor and his Brother 'Futureman' and their collaborations with Bela Fleck represent proof of Universal Benevolence. Rare air doth they breath.
The slap is definitely fast, and there may be some out there that slap just as fast, or even faster, but look at it in context. This solo is so well built, and all the elements fit so well. There's only a handful of players out there that can play with that much musicality and technical ability.
This man my friends is the best! Forget your Flea's and your Claypool's this guy is a bass monster that could make you want to quit because you know you'll never quite reach his level of godliness. So sick of people telling me how much feeling Flea has, this guy pisses feeling
@Zatyriasis I agree, he's in a world of his own, while we all just look on in sheer amazement. I bet he has bass solo dreams, wakes from his sleep and decides "hey I can play that!" He's a genius muso to say the least.
I watched this video for the supposed "very fast slap" and instead what I got was an amazing improvised solo with tons of groove from Victor... HOW DARE YOU
@iTzBRYANT114: I love Claypool. He inspired me to buy a 6 string many, many years ago. I've seen him live at least 6 times over the last 15 years. That being said, Victor Wooten is the most amazing bassist I've ever seen. Les Claypool is an AMAZING bass player. One of the best! Victor Wooten is THE MAESTRO!
i dont see why people are hating...id be estatic if i could slap successfully in rapid succession, let alone be endowed with a musical progression like Victors. its amazing. period
@rockrock3090 You're right, music isn't a competition. And yes I do believe they are two different musicians. One a funk bassist who sticks to the mold and the other a bassist who breaks down barriers and gives new meaning on how to play the bass. Of course what I'm saying is going to fall on deaf ears to those who have never really listened to Wooten.
@aakkoin The technique he uses is called "Double Slap", where the thumb goes down on one string and pulls back up against another hence allowing 2 separate notes to be played with one slap whereas normal slap only plays one note per slap. However fast this may sound, Mark King can achieve the speed of double slap using only normal slap
DAYyum I LVOE Victor's bass. I just realized... I can make almost the same sounds as VIctor, just by rubbing my index finger across my big fat lipps as I blow air out of my loose lipps.
Victor's double pluck move...unreal, and I see it as his trademark. every time I try to do it, I blister the edges of my fingertips. I even tried taping my index and middle finger together at the right angles to train the spacing on a five string. It's almost like a flam on the drum kit, except your fingers are hitting the offset notes. I see this video and it makes me realize I'm an ant amongst gods at the bass...:(
Guess what - more people know who Flea and Cliff Burton are than Victor Wooten. Because they are in huge, legendary bands. Victor Wooten is one of THE great bass players. Flea and Cliff Burton are LEGENDS for more than just their bass playing - Burton's influence helped Metallica move beyond straightforward thrash and develop more complex music, becoming one of the biggest bands EVER. Flea is a great PERFORMER with one of the world's biggest bands - he is (and they are) great to watch.
God!

Wait you're here?
nice
Epico!!!!!!!
Epic
0:32 His fingers are moonwalking on the bass
I love being able to listen to a musician who clearly has mastered an instrument so fully he plays it almost effortlessly while making something sound so beautiful.
His melodic ideas at the end bringing me to tears!! the best!
Victor Wooten is an angel without wings.
No human can play like that.
Guitarist here, gotta say I absolutely LOVE hearing great bass solos, especially great melodic ones like this one and Tal Wilkenfeld type solos. Oh man that video was intense ! I loved it especially with no sound !
Out of all the things Victor has ever done (and I've probably watched or listened to most of it) this is the solo that stands out for me.
The is the greatest bass solo ever, so much soul and groove inside it, you just want to cry of joy when listening to this.
Victor, thank you for your music and inspiration.
i've loved victor wooten for years and never saw this video till now. i have to say that's one of the best solos i've seen him play

absolutely the best bass player ever. a man that is devoted to his craft and his instrument. Great Craftsmanship Victor Wooten.
Victor has transcended sound!
Best bassist in the world. Victor was born to play this instrument!!
To hear the audio turn down the quality to 240 and you'll be able to hear it!!
Victor Wooten; love this guy!!!! So glad I met him at a bass workshop last year~
That's some weather channel shit. Awwww yeah.
Seriously though, this is amazing.
Some bassists are good, some are very good - then there's this. a whole new level. awesome stuff, loved it.
“Victor Wooten’s fingers” - latest entry to the list of things I never want my girlfriend to find out.
Beautiful sense of melody and syncopation. Awesome stuff. I see a time warp where he'd play with Mahavishnu in '73.
That was a hot 80 from victor Wooten that reminded me of the best of Stanley Clark and return to forever. Man, can he play that thang!
Years and years of practice and I still can't even hold a match let alone a candle to the amazing Victor Wooten!
Each times hearing (even 6 years after) give me goosebumps. unmatched skills !
Victor is an amazing virtuoso! I get chills watching him make that bass sing!
i watch this video everyday, and it never gets boring, hes sooooooo goood!!!!!
look at him get so into the music!...this is bass magnificence at its peak =)...victor wooten = a badass inspiration for any bassist
I began bass gitar to one week ago. I was hesitately. But now, I'm happier than before FOR Victor Wooten and I have seen him first time :) He's not human. In my opinion, he's alien for me :)
I'm always impressed by bassists who can play bass faster than I play guitar.
I love how he always sounds simply better than all those posers just playing arpeggios up and down the fretboard. His music is truly heartfelt and damn he's got a tight groove that simply catches you
That little riff at 0:29-0:30 just kills me!!!!!!!!!!!
Listening to extended bass solos and tool always makes me study better :):)
I think many people miss the point here. The main point of this solo is not to show off fast-playing technique, but to let the audience hear the beautiful and emotional combination of sounds, in which the insanely fast-played solo fits perfectly.
Victor Wooten played my bass once and I swear it's never been the same since. That man has magic hands.
What an insane groove! I knew that he`s really good but this... I can`t catch the right words for it....
This is beyond beautiful; hear the melody!!!! so damn sweet!!!
wow nice loved the groove ....love this guy
Мастер!!!! Больше и сказать нечего.... Спасибо такому таланту.... и труду вложенному..
Amazing!
Love his melodic way of playing.
Thumbs up if you feel like this music you can feel in your soul, you can feel him threw the bass, I'm in grade 10 and wish I could play like this, it blows my mind of the agility and feel. It speaks to my soul
congratulations to you bass community, you are great people
this beautifull sound makes me relaxxxxxxxx

Watched this, picked up my bass, tried to do the same, epically failed, cried myself to sleep while listening to more Wooten insanity #IWISHICOULDDOTHAT!!

The dislikes become meaningless when viewing this awesome performer. They should be replaced with "if you have no clue about music or talent, click here"
Hell Fire.He Is So Good.I Could Hear His Solos All The Night...
Nice phrasing. Wooten is among the top bassist in the world.
very awesome... I am a guitar player and I play progressive metal, but I love this video man... I love instruments...
Great feel, tone, sound great music.
This is sooo freaking sick. Amazing!!!
it's hella groovy ! it rocks my socks off two times !
Virtuosity x emotion + general groovyness= Victor Wooten

2:39 that capture the magnificence that is Victor Wooten. If you`re not a Wooten fan after this, nothing can help you. You`re hopeless.
You always know there is going to be some epic playing when you see victor's thumb, there could be no thumb, then you see the thumb and your like oh man here it come!
he knows exactly how not to show off too much, he really grooves just right, but still play and make everyone think "He's better than me, I'm terrible" hahahah
Обалдеть!!!
Нет слов!!!
Супер!!!
The venerated "open hammer pluck" technique, as banjo players ahve always used. Vic is the maeastro!

God damn, that was fantastic.
True prodigies are Victor and his Brother 'Futureman' and their collaborations with Bela Fleck represent proof of Universal Benevolence. Rare air doth they breath.

This guy was born for this.
Finally Victor and a Bass are the same spirit!
Yeahahaha...funky and cool and tight. He rocks.

Yes, its the way that vic slaps, and he sweeps the bass too in this video
Deus é muito lindo... tão grande sabedoria deu aos homens.
I watched this video for the supposed "very fast slap" and instead what I got was an amazing improvised solo with tons of groove from Victor... HOW DARE YOU
@GBMayhem very true. and nice choice of music. love slayer and iron maiden

@macfool It´s a good technique he use there. It´s double thumbing and plucking the strings in a sequence.
The bass he plays is a Fodera Bass.
i dont see why people are hating...id be estatic if i could slap successfully in rapid succession, let alone be endowed with a musical progression like Victors. its amazing. period

to get bored of listening to Wooten play, first I'd have to get bored of listening to music itself.

@MrOscypek It's a DMB song called #41...Victor Wooten's solo is a complete Jam session that isn't on the album
What a team. Amazing solo.
DAYyum I LVOE Victor's bass.
I just realized... I can make almost the same sounds as VIctor, just by rubbing my index finger across my big fat lipps as I blow air out of my loose lipps.
This man made me respect the bass.
Victor Wooten does on a bass, what most lead guitarists do on their guitars. Awesome to watch.
The Fantastic Sound of Silence!
I commented this 6 years ago but I don't even know what I meant. Still, his good.
muito criativo ,nem um pouco repetitivo esse também toco muito as frases são de mais !!!!!
Para lograr la afinacion de victor hay que cambiar el encordado o simplemente se eleva? si es así cuantos semitonos? MUCHAS GRACIAS..............................
@Zatyriasis You're right that's pure technique, scales and ectudes straight out of the book.
