I love how even the guards are getting tired of dealing with the spear hero and Bitchy.
Amongst the usual assholes who serve the royalty, there are also a good chunk of folks who just want to do their job and fight for what's right. That young fellah, the captain with a scarred face... Too bad they can't exactly go against orders when B-miss is around.

So far the knights shown to have any brains or morals are the vice captain (with scar), the young lad here, and only a handful of others

One other thing about this is, Motoyasu didn’t even know that Filo was a slave, he just kinda assumed that Naofumi only has slaves for companions

The part I find kinda sad? Unless I’m mistaken in the timeline of this scene the spear hero is way higher level then naofumi yet he still can’t break naofumi’s guard alone

Shield hero got a buff
Think of it this way.
Each weapon form unlocked and mastered gives a stat buff permanantly even once you switch to new one.
Naofumi uses basically every shield he can get a hand on where as the other heroes just pick a few branchs and go down those til they hit walls.
Shield is hyper minmaxed for defense.
In their first duel Spear Hero is 2x Noufumi's level and yet a shield bash from Noufumi was able to knock the wind out of him, I'd say that spear hero is hyper focusing his points into attack rather than anything else and doing that against defence ain't gonna do you any favours

I've rarely seen an example in anime of someone who's so self righteous and convinced that he's a hero, yet all he's doing is harassing someone at every turn and being used like a puppet by a sociopath. It needs to be illegal to be as stupid as Spear Hero and I hope this dude gets his reality check.

There is a show called zombie land saga where one of the characters has the mind of a literal zombie, and I can imagine her not being as easily fooled as the spear hero.

Within seeing the battle for the first time, all I could think about was how much the spear "hero" was endangering the people around him and the damage costs to the buildings. Second time around seeing this battle, it feels more like blind justice is just attacking to attack under the name of good. Hell, even take a look at the next fight, Motoyasu doesn't even listen to the Devil of the Shield.

As much as he is against slavery. He really doesn't do anything about it. I mean really he's only been trying to free Naofomi slaves and I'm pretty sure its just because they were pretty.
The Beginner if they were men I guarantee he’d be thinking “well, it is legal here”. His only motivation is looking good for pretty women. His entire party is attractive women who don’t actually fight alongside him, they just sponge off him and pretend to be eye candy. Motoyasu doesn’t even listen to women saying they hate him, he’ll just keep pursuing them if he thinks they’re attractive and will disregard everything they say and do. People got up in arms calling Naofumi a mysoginist, but this guy is a million times worse. To him, women are nothing but their appearance, and he’ll be interested in them regardless of what they’re like as a person while making every excuse he can think of to not change his mind
TLDR; he’s the absolute worst and has no self reflection or critical thinking skills. He’s a simpleton with one of the most powerful weapons in the world and is just a puppet of the princess and king because he’s intellectually lazy
Pedoyasu is a massive hypocrite. Remember when he said to Ralphtalia that no one should be forced to fight, but was fine with Naofumi being forced by the King into that duel?
The "slavery" Naofumi has with Filo and Raphtalia is more like a magical contract. His shields improve their stat bonuses snd he gains XP from them defeating enemies. It's literally mutually beneficial and Naofumi doesn't abuse the functions that allow him to control them.
He even once saw Naofumi with Kid!Raphtalia in the LN and never bothered them because she was still small and dirty looking.
@@vexxama 100% correct. He even has a side chapter in the end of volume 1 where the narration said he does not know the difference between loyalty and naivete and that he's not a hero, but a clown.
He's so occupied with being the knight in shining armor that he puts attractive women on this pedestal. But _only_ when they tell him what he wants to believe. He refuses to accept that Raphtalia is genuinely loyal to Naofumi, so he tells himself she's brainwashed because that's easier.
You could argue that Spear Moron is the real sexist because he condescends women like they can't think for themselves and are so fragile that they need his protection.
SnowyWolborg that last point is him in a nut shell. Hes condescending to an extreme degree, sees women as just women, not people. He won’t let men join his party and flirts constantly, regardless if they’re receptive to his advances or not, but keeps accusing the shield hero of taking advantage of and trying to use his female friends to make a harem, even though that’s the last thing on his mind. It’s like he subconsciously projects what he’s doing onto Naofumi and absolving himself of all wrongdoing. Like, he sees Naofumi with filo and Raphtalia and assumes that he’s making a harem because that’s what he’d do in that situation, but sees nothing wrong with doing it himself. He was even going to use a magical item to force filo to stay in human form purely because he preferred her that way. And you mentioned the slave deal? Remember how shocked he was after it was removed and got slapped? He convinced himself that the seal was a reason to disregard what she said and assume a more convenient reality for himself, then when she openly tells him he’s wrong and of her own free will, he just stands the stuttering saying how he’s still right. He genuinely couldn’t process the idea that Raphtalia was telling the truth before, and once the seal goes back on he ignores that conversation and just keeps saying she’s being coerced again almost like “if it’s not the seal, it *must* be the shield, I wasn’t wrong”. Honestly if he weren’t so stupid and actually had self awareness for what he’s doing he’d be an absolute monster.
