Powerslam, modified hip/backbreaker, a hanging vertical suplex...good thing he was able to still shine on his charisma and larger than life persona in WWF because working for a guy that seemed to feign on using the word 'wrestling' as he got older like Vince the Hulkster really got bottled up on what he could do in the ring lol.

It's more exciting to see people take hits than block everything. Obviously in real boxing you'd get KO'd every time if you didn't block, but for the movies when technical accuracy of the boxing takes a backseat to the entertainment it's understandable.

This is one of the most bizarre scenes in Rocky series, and that says a lot.
Rocky treats the bout as fake, but he finds out, as does the viewer, that wrestling is for real. So in the reality, Thunderlips nearly kills him. Thunderlips also beats up civilians and even police officers during the event, but faces no consequences. Instead, he smiles in the pictures afterwards and it is all forgotten.
That said, when I was 12, this was the best scene ever. It is still close.

The scene they announced Rocky’s weight of 202 lbs was for the movie purposes so he would look bigger and fit in the same weight class with Drago. In a time magazine and an article online, Sylvester talked about his shredding and his real weight in that film was 176 lbs, not 202.

    • @OnTheWall81

Drago's weight was specified to be 261 lbs when he fought Apollo. Drago and Rocky are nowhere near the same weight class.

Back when this was made, Kayfabe was VERY much in effect, so I like how this scene pulls the curtain back a little without completely dismantling the illusion; Thunderlips admits he was hamming it up for the crowd - "That's the name of the game." - but the fight between him and Rocky is presented as an actual match.
