I've had good luck with pop up blinds, I usually go off a game trail so I just leave one window open and I slightly open one window on the sides just so I can get a glimpse if a deer is coming or if it's another hunter. When it comes to public lands, I've had a couple blinds stolen so I don't leave pop ups out there anymore. Now I'll build my blinds from dead fall and burlap and I leave it out there. No one has ever stolen one of my burlap blinds and I have 3 of them that I can use. To help with scent mitigation, especially if the wind happens to change, I keep my hunting clothes in a box with freshly cut branches of the trees in the area I'm hunting. Pine works the best but I never hear people doing this, instead they all use just the sprays. I still use the scent killers, but with the combination of the two, I've had some nice bucks walk within 10-15ft of me and not know I was there, even though I can see my breath drift in their direction. It's worth a try if you've never done it before.

If you do, use a box, could use a tote but most have a plastic or chemical smell, leave your clothes/gear with the foilage of your choice for at least a day, wear some gloves or wash up with scent free soap, move stuff around and leave for another day, replace foilage as needed. I usually do this for a week before I go out and hunt. If you try it, good luck and hopefully it works for you as it does me!

Idaho elk hunter; Being a 67 year old big game rifle hunter, I've learned some important tricks to ground bling hunting for elk: Always hunt water sources being used by game; set up first thing in the morning approximately 200+ yards away from your kill zone, and tear down when leaving. For the rifle hunter, distance is your friend so make use of it; Don't be afraid to set 1/2 mile away from the road. Elk have gotten use to civilization and move easily around and through structures; set up blind with back up against trees and thick brush to blend in and guard against predators approaching from behind; Use a weather proof blind. Mountain weather can turn bad unexpectedly; Try for a control draw hunt with less hunters. OTC public hunts can be a three ring circus.

How do you leave it up on private property? I'm in NW Indiana, the wind out here is insane and last time I did that my blind blew away
