Trucking requires the patience of an immortal saint. Getting paid to serve others while they use you as a doormat. Truckers can put up with the stress, but only if they are paid. Unfortunately for many drivers the pay is often not forthcoming after doing the work.
When drivers are only paid when the truck is moving it becomes more like slavery. Combine that with complicated pay plans that are suppose to address the gaps in unpaid time which the company has no intentions of tracking, calculating, and paying out, the driver has no time to audit, the general disrespect by shippers, and you have a recipe for drivers quitting. There is no reason to risk homelessness just to pursue a trucking career.

Getting underpaid cannot be compared to slavery. If you have a choice to stay or leave it’s not slavery. If you don’t like it do something else. Y’all make simple stuff complicated.

When I worked for Werner briefly, I ran into the same problem too! Dispatch would give you loads that were several hours or several days late with the appointment time! All you can do was send a free text to dispatch and say, "This appointment time is several hours or several days late. Will they still load us?" Then they reply, try to get them to load you or FCFS. The shipper or receiver will then complain that you are way late. All you can do with that is give them the companys number in Omaha! That was a big problem there!!

Use your down time to work on your health. hit the gym. Hit the trails. Book a cabin in the Rockies at the Hot Springs. Don't go back behind the wheel until you're back in fighting form and can run a 10 minute mile. Too many drivers are dying of heart disease. I'm close to being one of them. Use this time to build on your friendships. You'll need them when you're older. Trucking turns us into ghosts and strangers far too quickly.

@@RunHardGetPaid ruclips.net/video/yKiyJ12IiOY/видео.html Truck drivers are people too. It's time to remind trucking companies of this fact. Let's get some laws in place. We want the "No Driver Left Behind" law in place in 2020.

Trucking misses you too. Come on back baby. Just do it on your terms. Get your tractor and trailer and outfit it with your advertisement of your business. I'm trying to get out of Texas right this second. Yeah, texas is a bit much...I wanted to stop on the side of the road and get some cacti .. that didn't happen. I had all sorts of issues. Still. I'm grateful

A Great Honest video, Abe I always enjoyed your trucking videos , but I totally understand why you left the industry, A lot of drivers today weren't around in the old paper log days when dispatchers would run you 17 hours a day to make pick ups and deliveries and push you to the point where meals, sleep and showers were few and far between, I don't miss those days at all, obviously the industry is still behind in a lot of areas specially the stupid 30 minute break and not paying drivers for everything they do as far as on duty time goes, anyway you look happier and in better shape..good for you man, take care! p.s. I still remember you calling out ike Stephen's to a boxing match Haha

The answer to your question do you miss Trucking. No you do not when you say you miss some aspects of it you said essentially you missed the days when it was everything worked out well and as you said those days are few and far between so the answer is no you do not miss me which is fine it's not for everybody and everybody gets frustrated and pissed so you had some good experiences and you got some good memories keep it at that

The problem is there are very few drivers that know what they are doing like you and I. We know how to get shit done, don’t screw around and take our sweet ass time. Most of these idiots out here act like it’s a vacation for them. And the dispatchers just treat everyone the same. That’s what sucks

Why were you late in the first place? You said it yourself, “it was bad planning.” If you have a certain set schedule and deadline, then, you should plan ahead. I’m trying to get my CDL, and listening to you DOES NOT HELP. In fact, it’s discouraging and dissatisfying. I’m trying to gain anyone’s respect but focus on trying to a job and, at that, a responsible job. Now, granted, I have no idea how it is to be on the road, but, nonetheless, you have to be self disciplined to become successful in any career; that includes being a janitor or a dishwasher employee at restaurant. I appreciate you sharing your experiences but, man..., don’t become a whiner.

Just wait until you actually experience what he's talking about before commenting on what he has to say about it. He worked for K&B and if he wasn't up for the task they would have fired him in his first week. They are one of the more ruthless companies out here and he made it work there until he called it quits. That means if a load was late it wasn't his fault. They will micro manage the shit out of you. You might as well have a boss in your truck ready to wake you up in the middle of sleeping. On the plus side if you always deliver on time and don't get a ticket you can get away with damn near anything else. Maybe one day you'll find out if you pass your drug screen and driving test.
