  • My very first student ever had a mental breakdown about a month into his training. Some people can't handle the stress of being an over the road trucker.
    Check out my first Trucker Story video where a woman tried killing herself by jumping in front of my truck while I was driving loaded at 65 mph! - • Trucker story: Suicide...

    When I was OTR I always kept food. Went to Walmart/food lion and stocked up on food and drinks. Had a microwave, big fridge and a small grill I kept on the cat walk. I ate good out on the road. Gotta be as comfy as possible when OTR

    I still have breakdowns but I try not to let people see them. being on a truck with another person is difficult. trucking companies throw two people together and hope for the best. if it works out the company is a hero. if it crashes and burns the drivers are zeros. the only benefit to training is a little more money but the aggravation quickly outweighs the benefits. my trainer had 6 months behind the wheel. I've been driving almost 6 years and I neither want or feel qualified to train.

    Some people can't sleep well in motion. The sleep deprivation from teaming is pretty bad for those people.

    Why would you not call 911 and get some professional help. Instead you decided to chain smoke and aggravate the situation. The police would have arrived and got him out of your truck. Probably by force if needed but it's not your job to be a counselor. Then you vandalized his only possessions he had? You are definitely not a professional and should take some classes on people management skills if you want to continue to train new drivers.

    What did you expect? "Students" dont make shit. If you run them hard and they dont "get paid" you have to expect this behavior. 4-5 weeks otr and he has no money for food.

      88stepstoclarity91 The reefer division I was referring to was called the Wal-Mart 1 way, hauling mostly produce from So-Cal to the east coast and usually a candy load back west..... That account was the shit lol.

      babloo1666 that's the problem most student drivers can only get otr jobs to start and being away from home for couple months then only being home a couple days then back at it is the reason these young kids are saying fuck truck driving....... mega carrier's are saying " only if illegals could get thier CDLS we would be fine " lol

    This may sound stupid,
    But I actually recognize the way the Trainee must have felt. I've had to train a bunch of people (not otr trucking, but still) that we're shoulder deep in trouble, and could hardly concentrate on what they were supposed to be doing.
    I sure understand why you eventually wouldn't help him any further, but I've also been on the other end of this rope. I actually understand how a pile of stress, that may not even be strictly work- related will lead you into insanity, as I've been there (and still am, basically) myself.
    It's never easy to judge a situation, even if you are kinda well informed, when there's emotions involved.

  • @SheldonJohnsonSydney
    @SheldonJohnsonSydney 7 лет назад +2

    man, that's one reason why I won't become a trainer! for as many "good" student stories I've heard, there's just as many horror stories that I've heard. and being a single parent, I'd rather stay out of that kind of situation and not train students.

  • @RyanEvan314

    Sorry to hear about your student. I hope he found his way in the industry and if not then oh well. What happens sometimes is when we get into the so called "zone" even as a local driver some people just put their minds on autopilot so to speak and you just run your loads and do your job without really thinking twice or three times what you're doing. You're so honed into focus that you're just pounding pavement. It happens to me a lot and I think what may have happened was he hit the wall on a mental level and he just needed to find a way to get back into that focus. We all lose our way sometimes but we usually find our way back. Merry Christmas 🎄

    Keep food on board. It will probably happen a lot less often. Though you said it was only one student (out of thirty?). Mental breakdowns can happen to anyone when multiple stresses pile up without relief of any within the time expected. I'm not suggesting anyone take on a tense situation they weren't specifically trained for either. You did right.

    WOW ....there are alot of people who see the glamor of being a truck driver ,,, I trained better than 700 people to get their CDL's from 2006-2011 @ Sage Schools in idaho / and another school ...but I did class room & BTW .....these folks done understand what life is like driving , then load ( scale ) drive ...unload ...get next load ....and take of your self in there some where ..... I've been out here since 1980 ....have 3.5 million miles in ...
    I had a student just freak out and while stopped at a red light started shaking ,,,jumped out of the truck & walked away ( didnt even set the brake at the red light ) , not a word ... just disapeared ....I looked for him , he was gone ....I drove back to the school ...explained what happened to the director / other instructors ...he never came back to the school to finish training , never explained what happened ....i do know not everyone can safely drive a truck under Very stressfull times ..
    this is why these co's go through so many students ....and many 1-3 year experience drivers .....this isn't the job for just anyone ....takes a special breed to do this work !!

  • @officespace7777
    @officespace7777 6 лет назад +2

    Hahaha. You and Warner made the guy snap.
    first off the no driving after midnight rule is b******* I would have just had the guy drive to a truck stop problem solved.
    Next the training process in trucking is whacked.
    You forgot to mention that the guy is pulling in about 300 a week for a paycheck and you're bringing in about a thousand seven hundred a week in paycheck. With you benefiting from all his miles.
    You trainers like to play it out like this is just the way it is when it really isn't.
    You don't have to park in the dirt lot. I never Park in the dirt lot I always have a safe place to eat and go to the bathroom.
    So as a trainer you were running the guy probably about 10 hours a day 7 days a week no rest no downtime. you probably parked in a dirt lot several times and the guy finally just snapped like anyone would. at first he was probably being good about it and just dealing with it not going to the bathroom holding it not eating. He was probably sick of you about 3 weeks in but you didn't know it.
    Also....you could have taken him back to Jersey. But it was something you didn't want to do. You would rather dump him off and get another student to use.
    So he was so crazy that you would rather fuck with him and blow smoke at him instead of calling your dispatcher to have him removed?
    So I think it was trainer greed and poor planning that caused the guy to go off.
    the trucking companies need to change the pay process for trainers and only pay the trainers a flat trainers rate or both you and the student split the miles but that will never happen because the greedy trucking companies want to use you both to make money

    let me start by saying i kinda understand this guy being away from home no money food some nice piece of ass sorry bout that but its true guy s need it to think straight lol ok so i believe that in between running hard and getting paid .....maybe you guys could have slept a night at a hotel instead of truck maybe hit a decent restaurant and did some quick and i mean quick sight seeing or some shit like that cause it sounds like he had the trucking skills down but not the lifestyle. if i trained wich i never would cause im a social loner i would work hard but eat good need food to work and maybe stop off at a strip club or hooters or vape shop just to blow off some steam really quick poor guy he is prob home now woth no cash living in a rooming house and his wife's probably left him and is doing somebody else but all honesty hope the guy is still trucking and if i was abe i would have been a little nervous myself but great stories hope this guy got his shit together its tough out there
