In early-1970s Las Vegas, low-level mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro) gets tapped by his bosses to head the Tangiers Casino. At first, he's a great success in the job, but over the years, problems with his loose-cannon enforcer Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci), his ex-hustler wife Ginger (Sharon Stone), her con-artist ex Lester Diamond (James Woods) and a handful of corrupt politicians put Sam in ever-increasing danger. Martin Scorsese directs this adaptation of Nicholas Pileggi's book.

This all looks even more impressive now that I've learned that Robert and Joe improvised most of their dialogue. They were only given the direction and they filled in the rest

Love the Ocean’s trilogy and I vaguely recall the TV show Vegas. But this flick right here, the Great De Niro and Joe Pesci’s commentary on the fa real fa real of that town is the single reason I will only ever set foot in Vegas is to see my Raiders and Aces. Damn every casino. 💯

When we first meet Ginger, the guy she's playing craps with is supposed to be Harry Karl of Karl's Shoes. Degenerate gambler and husband of Debbie Reynolds. He lost millions and his huge shoe business. He also went through a lot of Debbie Reynolds' money. One of the most famous scams pulled on him was years of being cheated in Beverly Hills Friars club gin games. $10 a point. Big time gin.

Funny how in the beginning the girls are always like , money ? No big deal who needs it ?
