I knew this was coming from her when Theo called out her privilege and she proceeded to ignore that. And also Pen, her literal best friend, called it out not once, but twice, like girl, pls be serious El: three people (including Cressida) call you out on four separate occasions, let that be a wake up call for you.

the thing about lady fea the rington is that she is SO realistic as a mother in her situation, conflicted, making bad decisions, toxic and tactless, unlikeable and yet caring for her children in the ways that she knew/ that's so very human, i've met so many women like that
she's probly one of the best characters in the show

Totally agree! Shes brash, judgemental, and a bit overbearing, but god damnit she is ALWAYS there for her girls. She helped marina through being pregnant w/o a husband, she saved her family from destitution, she have decent advice, she wasnt going to force pen to marry, her married daughters were at her house more than their own, and she unquestionably supported pen after she found out she was LW. Shes a real mom.
one of the best acted too lmao! I don't blame the actors though for the acting, this season in particular is edited weirdly and tackily, making everyone seem super forced and unnatural
Lady featherington is expected to be man of the house in a world that does not give her the rights and tools to do so. She is a G for sticking it out for her kids and doing the best she can.
Exactly! She wasn’t a sweet mother like violet or anything but when the chips were down Portia did everything for her girls to keep them safe and stable
I think in the last season they showed the parallels between Eloise and Penelope, in the sense that Eloise is some much more lucky. She has brothers, that can take over the family, she doesn't have a father who gambled away all the money, she doesn't have to mary for safety or economic reasons, she has a brother who actively supports her ideas(Benedict), another supportive brother, his wife and their mother who don't push her into marriage for prestige sake, she's allowed to read whatever she wants, say whatever she feels. And this season they show more of the parallels between the mothers. Violet got pissed at Portia about the Marina situation, but she didn't have a husband that owed a debt and therefore was put in this situation, where she had to do anything it takes, otherwise her own daughter and the whole family would face ruin. And you can see it so clearly in the way that Violet believes in love and wants all her children to marry for love, because they have the ability to look as long as they need for that. Even if none of the bridgerton girls marry, their brothers will take care of them, and the featheringtons don't have that luxury. I've heard it said that bridgertons live in a romance novel and the featheringtons live in reality, and that is so true.
Featheringtons and the rest of the ton still live in a fantasy, just a less perfect one. But this season def showed that difference, including comparing Eloise to Cressida too
@@LisaFevral Yeah, that's true. I think the situation with Cressida shows how bad of a friend Eloise is. Penelope would sneak out at every ball but Eloise somehow didn't notice? Even Colin says that after rereading hee letters, he could see that she writes like whistledown, so surely Eloise would have been able to clock something if she just payed attention. She definitely should have seen it coming, that Cressida would announce herself as whistledown. Which makes the way they all treated her at the end so much worse. Like, girl, Cressida was in a horrible situation, desperate. But Eloise didn't care, because she was, yet again, selfish and trying to make decisions for how and when Penelope should tell Colin. I hope she does acknowledge that in the next season and does a lot of growth in her own.
Anthony will take care of them, you mean. The rest of the brothers have allowances, just like the girls. They don't have jobs

Good video! I totally agree with what you say about people's relationships with other people's beauty and with beauty standards in general. Nicola is gorgeous and it is good to see a male character completely head over heels arroused by both her beauty and her soul. So satisfying. I am obsessed in love with season 3. It is not healthy. It was fun to ear your opinion when we do not always agree 😊. Pen's baby looks definitely younger than her sisters' (I am a mum,.[.can tell). Jess the show runner said that Penelope.got pregnant the first time she had sex with Colin 😉

Colin trying to flirt with Penelope before she snaps at him REALLY gave me the vibes of him having figured out that he's kinda hot, and having spent his entire journey getting his ego inflated by flirtationships. You can absolutely see it by how he openly states "im not looking for a wife" and then proceeds to have the time of his life flirting with girls. It came across as if he wanted to see her swoon for him, too, because she usually always gave that reaction and he just got used to it. His genuine surprise when the ONE person he'd always been able to fluster doesn't fall for his high ego act is so funny

the thing about bridgerton is that if there is no oppression, classist and sexist, then there is no plot. the show tries to be a fantasy but it’s a “fantasy” that depends on generations of real-life inequality.
how could marina worry about being pregnant without misogyny? how could colin worry about “the bridgerton name” without aristocracy? how could literally any of the marriage plots work without extreme misogyny? it may be a fantasy for us now, but it’s a nightmare for the actual characters
It was considered beautiful to be plump during the regency era so anyone commenting about Nicola’s weight has no idea of history nor did they read the books. I’ve only seen comments about how little screen time Penelope and Colin had to focus on their story and more criticism of Colin since he doesn’t seem to support Pen until the very end which I agree with. We needed less of everyone else and more of Polin.

But yeah. The girls are clearly at least 6 months older than the boy. He is slightly smaller in everyway, doesn't have any hair, and his facial features are less defined. Whereas you can see that the other two babies have more hair, larger eyes, and one even has teeth. And their arms are clearly bigger. That's kind of impressive that they cared enough to do that

What is it with this show making me hate 1/2 of every main pair to the point I completely lose all emotional investment
Right? For me, it was not liking Daphne, then Anthony, and now sadly even Colin. The Bridgerton’s love interest in general are always far more interesting than the Bridgertons themselves, even though funnily enough, they are the titular characters. I could say that it is because the love interests are less privileged than the Bridgertons, but that doesn’t even apply to Simon, who is the Duke. Perhaps their motivations and their actions are more interesting than the motivations of the Bridgertons
And if they go with Benedict’s book for his season, then I’m afraid it’ll be 4 for 4 since I seem to have the unpopular opinion that Benedict himself is not that interesting. He’s cute for sure, but nothing intrigues me about him. His love interest on the other hand, Sophie, a working class woman in the books, was a far more interesting character, I can’t wait to see her story unfold on screen.

also, great vid! i definetly agree with you about lady featherington, and i think what happens to her character is shomething very recurring in period dramas.
because she is a very realistic and straightforward character, who thinks of safety and stability above all else, whilst every other character is more idealistic. it makes sense for her to be perceived as a bad mother, but truly, all she is doing is try her hardest to secure a stable life for her daughters, instead of letting them chase dreams that could lead to ruin and disappointment
100% agree! She is just worried that a man will ruin her reputation for the fun of it! And yeah, she was rude and unsupportive thinking that Penelope has no chance of marrying but that’s why she’s a complex(morally) character

31:07 I heard another RUclipsr comment that I think agree with her that having Cressida come forward made it a bit easier for Penelope to. Because Cressida lied, everyone including Penelope realized the value of Lady Whistledown. I think it allowed people to be a more (we’ll see in future season) open to Penelope when she came forward. But I also thought Cressida would be with that lord whose name I can’t remember how to spell.
I hope Cressida gets a happy or at least ok end at the end of the show. I felt so bad for her. She was mean yes. But her and her mother were only trying to survive that abusive household.

Yes it was so weird how they all had babies at the same time, didn't her sisters say they were pregnant at in part 1? before the 3 weeks untill the wedding of Polin, so they would atleast be a month or two along before Pen
Penelope's baby looked younger then the other two though. Also he could have been born prematurely
They had to redeem Creseda to keep Eloise apart from Penelope. They ruined Creseda to put pressure on Pen to come out as Whistledown. That's why they also made Eloise an ass towards Pen.
Ooh, I got so mad at Chris Van Dusen standing ten toes down and saying it was colour conscious when BLACK PEOPLE gave him the benefit of the doubt by saying the casting may have been colour blind casting. Like my dude, we were giving you a way out and you got offended about us even implying that you didn’t make a dumb decision by casting black people in roles that make them play into stereotype? Like playing into the tragic mulatto stereotype with Marina and the magical black person stereotype with Lady Danbury isn’t the flex you think it is babe! And let’s not even talk about the optics of the black male lead being SA’d by the white female lead but the white woman still somehow managing to come out as the victim. This is why no matter what qualms I have with season 3 it will always be above season 1 simply because of these frankly disturbing things that CVD didn’t even stop to think about.
The male SA and how it was diminished was deplorable. It feeds into the stereotype that men can't be victims of assault. If they speak out about what happened to them then they're emasculated or blamed.
Just goes to show how performative Bridgerton's inclusitivity is.
I'm so heartbroken for Simon. Imagine being assaulted and then being gaslighted into thinking it was YOUR fault.
The SA isn't a race issue. Because it was in the book. But it was also feminist issue because women in this world aren't taught how babies are made until they about to get married or are married. Both leads have gone on record saying they did not have Botox or facial fillers. The wigs they wore is to blame. Which makes sense. If you watch the clips of Colin, while he's wearing the wig, you see his facial structure change. That wig was snatched all the way back

I honestly don’t know wth they were doing w Cressida cause I honestly felt for her and she spit facts a lot but they tried to frame her as the villain?? Also isn’t true feminism Eloise helping her girl friend who is in a horrible situation as a result of the patriarchy but girls just left her - idk it was weird I felt like they tried to rush to get her back on Penelope’s ‘side’
1:47 one of the main reasons Penelope is also not favored, besides the fact that she may be larger then her sisters or other society girls, is also the fact that she is a "blue stocking". I don't think it's ever really made clear in the show that literally just reading 📖 books as a woman will make you less attractive to marry..... So lady featherington is not just being annoying. The stuff she tells Penelope is exactly, bluntly what is fashionable in a wife.
but being larger those days was a sign of wealth, no? I'm pretty sure being plump was quite literally the beauty standard at the time. Besides her reading, Pen would have had suitors all over her. She's quiet, reserved, not too rich, and beautiful. Come on.

🎉According to my calculations, Prudence and Phillipa got pregnant only few weeks before Pen did. The time is broken in Bridgerton universe and having them morning sickness so fast is definitely comedy gimick... But yeah.
If we assume that both got pregnant after Full-Moon Ball, or shortly earlier, you have week of Pen in her room, week of her courting Debling, with her and Colin possibly conceiving afterwards. My calculations for the earliest conception of baby boy ranged between 12-24 days after his cousins.

I had no idea what I was about to watch going into this video and loved every single point and turn in conversation you made especially regarding social issues! Totally agree especially on the fantastical elements of the show. It is a vaguely regency-inspired fantasy romance. It doesn't need to try to justify race inclusion. This is not a time or place based in real history and honestly they arent good at handling race issues either. It should have just stated, since this is a fantasy why the heck not have diversity and left it at that. All of the babies are almost the same age because Pen got pregnant on her first time with Colin which was only a few weeks after her sisters' got pregnant.
Have i seen this season? No. But I am still watching.

Honestly after 3 seasons of bridgerton I just accepted that it's a silly enjoyable stupid show with a lot of flaws that gets one thing really right every season and that is family relationships. I think they nail those dynamics every season and they are way more engaging than any of the love stories imo. In regards to everything else I just accepted that it's going to be ridiculous and overly dramatic for no reason. That's what the show runners have decided for this show at this point. I wish the show wasn't so much like that but I think it always will be which is sad but it is what it is. So I am not mad about it.
That being said I still wish they would put a bit more thought into their writing and stop writing dramatic scenes first and the plot later. This is something that they tend to do in the finales and I general in the last 3 episodes. Season 2 had the same issue with the whole Edwina and Kate and Anthony marriage plot thing. This season it was the whole lady whistledown drama thing. It would also be nice if they would be a bit more thoughtful about the politics of it all.
In terms of side plots crowding the show with Benedicts story was also such a strange choice tbh. They should have cut that. The other side plots didn't really bother me but they could have been more connected and maybe a bit more restricted plus give us more kanthony the actors have such enjoyable chemistry..... Not giving Francesca her own season was also a little odd but that didn't bother me too much. The best part of the season were all the mother daughter plots especially Penelope and her mother that was my favorite part.
I still liked the season overall it was a fun watch. But I have given up on expecting anything with much sociological or philosophical substance or even a hint of it from bridgerton or even logical coherence. It just isn't that show. And I've decided to accept it as long as it gives me silly escapism and isn't too stupid.

I want to defend Colin a bit (but agree that writing was a mess).
Was he envious? Yeah. Admitted it.
Was be previously engaged and bamboozled? Yes.
Is the "entrapment" line absolute brutality? Yes. But he was hurt and unsure. He knows she was willing to marry without love. He can think back in his mind that he was only her safe raft and she does not actually care about him, if she lied about something like this.
Even if we excuse each of Pen's decision, and I did so in past two years, it still endagers not only them, but his entire family. When El tells Colin that she was fine after the Queen accused her, he looks very relieved.
Maybe it is because I am foreigner, but I never took Colin's line in season 2 that harshly. To me, it was badly worded drunk comment. I fully believe that Colin has no idea how Pen is perceived and does not realize consequences. His reaction proves it. Not saying it is excusing it, but I truly believe that there was no malicion in it. It just does not fit him much.

Maybe I need to rewatch season 2 because I just don’t get the hype. The drama went on for way too long and they progressed Edwina and Anthony’s relationship way too far, to the point where I don’t understand Kate being with him. My sister is my best friend and if someone treated her the way Anthony treated Edwina, leading her on for so long while making eyes at her sister and basically saying that Kate couldn’t go far enough away to not tempt it, but also still trying convince Edwina to marry him, like I’d be turned off. I certainly wouldn’t marry someone who could disregard my sister and her feelings that way.

@@gradis13 The story could stay the same but Michaela's little brother or child inherits after John, making Michaela grasp with the idea of taking over Johns house since she'd be calling the shots until the child comes of age, and also it provides a kid for Fran to adopt while she struggles with fertility. They can live together I don't think it'd be suspicious since she was widowed.
