I thought this was a good episode. It had a pretty intricate plot line for a 25 minute 1950's "cop show". The real cops in the 50's probably would have grabbed a rifle, picked him off and called a day.

An uncle of mine was a VP at the gas company in Washington DC. He had a '51 Plymouth 4 door Cranbrook . Baby Blue for his company car and his personal car was always a Chrysler Windsor although he could easily have afforded a top of the line Imperial.
I guess the reason Dan did`t look in the trunk is that he saw the For Sale sign on the trunk. Do not disturb occupants. Seems that a family of 5 was living in that humongous trunk. This episode has an extra helping of cheese.
Unless i'm totally out of touch, the Highway Patrol doesn't have beat officers and investigators wearing anything but the standard uniform. Crawford has a full suit, non-uniform hat, and hard sole dress shoes-just what one doesn't need to be wearing when doing what Crawford had to do in all these episodes.
It was a slow day for Matthews to be checking on derelict cars. All they had to do is take the car keys away, or drive off with it. They could have come back with s helicopter.
"What did he say?!" That police office should go back and have his ears rechecked.he is a hazard to Matthews. Is it 'Pepperton' or 'Pemberton'? maybe that's why he's so upset, no one can get his name right. Stuart Whitman added a little humor of his own. Good episode great actors.
Right before you go into the Sequoia National park on Hwy 198, there is a road to the right called Mineral King road. It's a very twisty 2 lane mountain road about 25 miles long. My friend and I used to race up that road on our motor cycles. One day we came whipping around a turn and ended up in a herd of free range cattle. Miraculously no one was hurt but I nearly had a heart attack.
Not one of better episodes. Hackneyed script with too many cliches, forced acting and implausible situation resolution. Shame, since serious story line. Lots of WW2 vets had what we now know as PTSD, and in '50s, this and similar decompensations, occurred more than we realize.

Dan's partner in this episode is Stuart Whitman. He was one of the stars in the film 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".

Brod. Crawford doing 'cosplay' as a duck.
