- In this video I show you how I made this pewter signet ring, to start I 3d printed the model, then added a wax sprue, then coated in a thing layer of thinned down plaster of paris, then made the mould, melted out the pla and wax, and then finally cast the pewter into the mould.
If you do try this make sure your pewter is Lead Free.

👂🏻?
Liam would a resin 3d print still melt the same...??
As far as I know SLA printers use thermoset plastics which can't be melted, fdm printers, the type I used- use thermoplastics! That being said I don't know what resins are available for resin printing so you might be able to find one that can be melted.
Although you could always use the resin print and make a silicone mould, which you'd then cut open, and could cast pewter into that! And it would have the benefits of being reusable and much higher resolution!
@@TheModernMaker ah I use the photon anycubic resin printer and taking a blowtorch to a printed ring the answer is no..... It kinda crumbles but not enough to get the parting obf the ring out of the investment properly
@@lestatsmods one thing I've tried before is using standard silicone for making moulds, it takes ages to dry, and does stick a bit to the print, but you can get a workable mould from it
@@lestatsmods You need to use burnable resin, called wax resin, cast resin or castable resin. Regular resin won't really work well and doing a burnout might end up in a failed cast
Where can I get the metal for it???
You can find it on eBay using the search term "pewter ingot", just make sure it's lead free for jewellery!
