  • Making a signet ring using your own metal is a regular request, lots of us have pieces of jewellery sitting in jewellery boxes that have been owned by loved ones and not worn for a variety of reasons. So why not put them to good use and create a special signet ring to celebrate your child's 18th birthday or perhaps for you.
There aren't many things that one can recycle and bring them back to life to enjoy again, this video shows you the process that maintains the integrity of your gold whilst delivering something you can wear every day, so why not create a new Heir Loom by bringing the past into the present... For those interested I use the Delft casting kit, this can be found on line, have fun. www.cmsjewellers.com

You know...I could do this with scrap aluminium as well! Thanks for showing this process in this size!

Far more common metals available than the precious.

Beverage cans, old cookware, storm window and door frames, some bicycles, etc. Won't turn you green if it's in contact with the skin, you can home anodize it to most any color you like, and you can even carve the signet in the metal if you choose not to cast it from the wax model. So, yes, aluminium.

if I had the correct size cast I would be ready to melt down 3 or 4 sovereign's to make my own ring just like that it make's good sense looking at the price the shop charges for a blank signet ring in 22ct gold

Do you know where I can get all the things to make a ring? I have the silver but that's it... Thanks! Oh and I am in the UK so where you got it should be fine.

red clay sand, such as whats used in baseball fields, ground fine, with a little mineral oil works well to start with. you can also purchase "greensand" online.
