OnlyThePurpleFruitLoops Wow, really? Where did he say that? One of the podcasts? Sounds like one of those Hunter x Hunter things where he judges it preemptively.
Good job EA, you got the government involved in the gaming community. Way to ruin it for all of us with your greed. And Disney is also caught in this mess. I hope you're ready to win the award for Worst Company in America for the 3rd time.
Went to GameStop earlier today. Sonic Forces has been put on a 20% off Sale and shoved way in the back past the shirts and xbox 360 games. Battlefront 2 was in boxes, being put in the back of the store - I asked what happened, and apparently because Battlefront 2 controversy, we've been unable to sell a single copy. And we can't price cut them so, their wasting shelf space.
Nate Not only is the game not selling but it also made EA lose 3 billion dollars in stock value. Something tells me Disney won't renew the Star Wars license with them. www.cnbc.com/amp/2017/11/28/eas-day-of-reckoning-is-here-after-star-wars-game-uproar.html
JackH_ No, I agree that lootboxes are shitty and need to go, what I'm referring to is what they talked about in this segment, games not releasing in certain territories because of restrictions, American versions of games still retaining the gambling aspects while they're gone in other regions, ect.
Shadic4101 Lootboxes are worse versions of slot machines, with slot machines you can at least win something of value but in lootboxes you just "win" a virtually inexpensive line of code.
apparently this is a mistranslation and it wasnt a definitive statement that ruled loot boxes as gambling. they are still investigating. the commisioner or whatever still wants loot boxes banned but it seems like a long shot, the dutch gambling commission and almost every single official that investigated this issue said loot boxes were akin to trading card packs and they are largely in that category, far more so than actual gambling
heroes of the storm too. if it wasn't randomly generated, he wouldn't have bought nearly as much. he just loves opening boxes. it's like christmas but you don't have to see your extended family.
Don't give kids debit or credit cards. You get a $500 bill at the end of the month like my mom's friend. Edit: Also its nice to live in pre-prohibition America.
Certus Indago Not at once but overtime their addiction to lootboxes grows and keep spending and spending their allowances or money their parents give them in lootboxes.
Abdega i mean, aren't you shocked the UN has never stepped in on syria despite their numerous human rights violations? oh, what's that? syria's head of the human rights council to the UN? seriously, why do we appoint known assholes to the boards meant to keep known assholes in line?
Baronvonkame every time i go to the bank, it's the same question. "you want a credit card?" and the response is clockwork, "do not give me free money. that will end poorly." still, at least i have enough self-control to avoid.... _this._
MrJade12 depends on what kind of gaming you're looking at. i believe the americas are the largest console market, asia is the largest mobile market, which leaves europe being the largest PC market. and of course, if you're not in one of those markets, it means you're in the largest portion of the games market, the black market.
Hendrixian95 Nothing as people are not concerned about them so they will be treated as if they are in the grey area. Now if people complained that would make things different.
Trading card packs are I believe legally treated as each card in the pack having equivalent monetary value or something before being opened. It's only afterwards where the secondary market and supply and demand create a different value for each card.
With booster packs and toys, you're buying cards and toys. With lootboxes, you're paying for access to random lines of code you have already purchased.
ok so i got a question for yall becuase im wondering alot about this. so lets say they rule that loot boxs are gambling and not allow them anymore in all of Europe ok. what dos that mean for games that has them?? like in overwatch. will it just be actually impossible to get loot boxes anymore. would they ban the game or just take away the buy option ingame. im not very up to date with all this so please let me know
it depends on the kind of ruling, what loopholes are allowed, etc. it's possible that games that currently exist, as of the date the law takes effect, may be allowed to maintain their practices, but will be restricted to sale for adults. it's possible that those games will be grandfathered in, meaning you can't be punished for having it because it wasn't illegal when you got it. or, they may be forced to undergo an overhaul and change their monetization strategies. it really depends on what the law says.
I was shocked when I learned how tough the gambling laws are in other countries. Here in Australia there are like 15-25 poker machines in every single pub.
Josh Bouman that's because australia is a land of three things, crime, alcohol and sudden traumatic death. so, fuck it, have fun while you can, you won't be around long. here in good old canada-land, death is usually quite slow because you froze to death, so there's less incentive for the government to let you have fun. and of course, quebec's constant war with the rest of the country has them a little on edge, so nobody is allowed to have fun unless it's good, wholesome, catholic, and most importantly, _french._
I don't mean to burst your bubble or anything but Australians tend to talk up how "dangerous" it is here to get a laugh out of tourists. All the scary stuff is in that uninhabitable wasteland known as the outback, no one actually lives out there. At best you'll go home with alcohol poisoning and a nasty sunburn, where as it got down to 10c here once and I was afraid I was going to freeze to death. Canada sounds a lot scarier to me.
Josh Bouman let me ask you a question, do you think people routinely freeze to death in canada? i've walked through -30°C weather, and while it wasn't fun, if you're wearing the proper clothing you're perfectly fine. do you think i might be exaggerating the danger for the purpose of a joke? i've been to australia. it's fine. avoid the known box jellyfish spots, don't wander into the bush alone and if you see a spider, maybe leave it alone, you'll be fine. also, the only part that wasn't exaggerated is the relationship between quebec and everyone else. "cold war" would be an apt description, as would "mutual backstab". they're really not happy with "english style rule".
At least with gambling, you get an astronomical chance of having slightly more money back. With loot boxes, it's literally nothing of physical value being returned.
It's not gambling it's just paying for random loot it's like paying for a booster pack so will they denounce trading cards are gambling? Also to to fix the lootbox problem is to make the games in game currency more common so people can just buy the gear? You still have people playing the game but they have to keep up with the content instead of just spending cash on shit that'll be taken down/replaced with a newer game
"Put everything in this bag but don't make it heavy."
My fucking cashier PTSD
Retail and Fast food are the most cursed jobs an american teenager can work. So basically 90% of all jobs available for teenagers now days...
Another chapter of EA saves the industry by being the fucking worst.
Lelouch would be proud
Reminder: Fuck Woolie for shitting on Code Geass without even seeing it
OnlyThePurpleFruitLoops Wow, really? Where did he say that? One of the podcasts? Sounds like one of those Hunter x Hunter things where he judges it preemptively.
He and Pat were talking about anime. Video's called: The worst looking shounen protagonist. AND PAT SHITS ON GON'S DESIGN. FUCK PAT TOO
I also think Gon looks like shit. But yeah Code Geass has pretty decent design
Gon looks cool without his jacket. I like the white undershirt look. It works.
Good for Hawaii and Belgium, seriously
The rest of Triple A is looking at EA like the kid who fucks up doing something fun at school and makes the class have extra work
EA was the kid who flooded the bathroom by turning all the handles on and leaving them running and having them being replaced with the shit timed ones
EA is the kid who passed test question answers around his clique of friends and got caught, so everyone has to do another test
EA is the kid who started a fight over trading cards and then the school bans them.
Good job EA, you got the government involved in the gaming community. Way to ruin it for all of us with your greed. And Disney is also caught in this mess. I hope you're ready to win the award for Worst Company in America for the 3rd time.

That's delicious
lel
never have I derived such joy from seeing a game company fail.
LOOOOOOOOOL. I wonder how much they sold over all
Thanks EA for constantly fucking over the gaming industry because of your greed.
Ivan Avendano you know if loot boxes become gambling, games won’t do it nearly as much, right?
JackH_ No, I agree that lootboxes are shitty and need to go, what I'm referring to is what they talked about in this segment, games not releasing in certain territories because of restrictions, American versions of games still retaining the gambling aspects while they're gone in other regions, ect.
Good topics this week glad the boys are back
Loot boxes are literally slot machines
Shadic4101 Lootboxes are worse versions of slot machines, with slot machines you can at least win something of value but in lootboxes you just "win" a virtually inexpensive line of code.
You're literally a fuckin moron
how
its a slot machine with only one spinning slot instead of 3.
I would say the spinning slots is the RGN. You COULD get some good stuff but 9 times out of 10 it's garbage
apparently this is a mistranslation and it wasnt a definitive statement that ruled loot boxes as gambling. they are still investigating. the commisioner or whatever still wants loot boxes banned but it seems like a long shot, the dutch gambling commission and almost every single official that investigated this issue said loot boxes were akin to trading card packs and they are largely in that category, far more so than actual gambling
Phearo G the original statement was from the belgium representative, what do they speak like german or dutch or something?
Jayness belgium would speak french and german most likely, but europe is so interconnected that they probably speak many languages.
I swear to god, if Pokemon gets banned because if this, I'm putting EA on the naughty step _indefinatley._
Ha stupid EA with lootboxes.
*Goes back to rolling in Fate GO banners*
soooo...does that mean pat has a gambling problem?
with the whole overwatch lootbox thing?
the chair is back, but renji won pat has many problems, and as far as i know, canada has mostly stayed out of this so far, so not yet.
Yes, actually.
heroes of the storm too. if it wasn't randomly generated, he wouldn't have bought nearly as much. he just loves opening boxes. it's like christmas but you don't have to see your extended family.
Solaire OfAstora To be fair, his audience gave him money in that instance to be a garbage person.
Don't give kids debit or credit cards. You get a $500 bill at the end of the month like my mom's friend.
Edit: Also its nice to live in pre-prohibition America.
Sam Lucas You do realize that kids can still buy PSN or Xbox Live gift cards right?
It's still them spending the money though.
Yeah but it won't be as much as $500 all at once. (at least most of the time)
Certus Indago Not at once but overtime their addiction to lootboxes grows and keep spending and spending their allowances or money their parents give them in lootboxes.
what's the best shitstorm?
the one that falls upon your enemies
sit down boys and enjoy the show
Sigismund, The Emperor's Champion 10/10 quote
so the reason the esrb hasnt declared loot boxes gambling is because EA is a member of the board so yea
Funny how that works …
Abdega i mean, aren't you shocked the UN has never stepped in on syria despite their numerous human rights violations?
oh, what's that? syria's head of the human rights council to the UN?
seriously, why do we appoint known assholes to the boards meant to keep known assholes in line?
+Yal Rathol Money. Sometimes someone lets their friend into an undeserved position of power but usually money or some other kind of greed-driven deal.
@@Yal_Rathol the main human rights abusers in Syria are US backed rebels
Loot boxes are simultaneously online casinos, and proof positive I should not have any sort of credit card
Baronvonkame every time i go to the bank, it's the same question. "you want a credit card?" and the response is clockwork, "do not give me free money. that will end poorly."
still, at least i have enough self-control to avoid.... _this._
Europe is literally the biggest video game market after Asia.
MrJade12 depends on what kind of gaming you're looking at. i believe the americas are the largest console market, asia is the largest mobile market, which leaves europe being the largest PC market.
and of course, if you're not in one of those markets, it means you're in the largest portion of the games market, the black market.
The Hawaii guy is a fucking hero.
Why'd the graphic also highlight Luxembourg? Just wanna know. Used to live there and couldnt NOT notice it.
I was too lazy to edit it out.
Joshua Cochran the secondary market makes people able to buy the exact card they want
Here's the thing though, if lootboxes are legally defined as gambling, what happens to booster packs for magic the gathering and capsule toys?
Hendrixian95 Nothing as people are not concerned about them so they will be treated as if they are in the grey area. Now if people complained that would make things different.
Trading card packs are I believe legally treated as each card in the pack having equivalent monetary value or something before being opened. It's only afterwards where the secondary market and supply and demand create a different value for each card.

Didn’t pat like spent 900+ in OW loot boxes? I may be mistaken tho.

animeshowfan I bet you'll have to use in game currency to buy the skin

here in good old canada-land, death is usually quite slow because you froze to death, so there's less incentive for the government to let you have fun. and of course, quebec's constant war with the rest of the country has them a little on edge, so nobody is allowed to have fun unless it's good, wholesome, catholic, and most importantly, _french._

Just give it an M or A rating
zann williams maybe extreme regulation does have its place?
That's funny. You think giving it a different rating will make people not buy those games for their kids.
ChillTerumi That's what they're there for, if parents decide not to use it or deem it's fine for their kids it's on them.
That's what they're their for, but parents will still buy Gears of War for their 12 year olds.
The latter is basically the mark of death, as pretty much no store will carry them.
Fun fact
Belgium denounces loot boxes as gambling and Bungie is cheating players out of Destiny 2 XP are both 13:28 long
I would not be surprised if EA loses the license.
Thank god for EA!
...I can’t believe I just said that
At least with gambling, you get an astronomical chance of having slightly more money back.
With loot boxes, it's literally nothing of physical value being returned.
Is it a mistake if it ends up actually being good for the industry?
AzureBeats the invention of safety glass and friction matches were both accidents, so yes.
Glad i switched to tabletop playing.
It's not gambling it's just paying for random loot it's like paying for a booster pack so will they denounce trading cards are gambling? Yes, booster packs are gambling and engineered specifically for that purpose.
Yeah. Lootboxes are cancer
I'm so glad I pissed on EA headquarters
Loot boxes, battle passes, whatever scum developer will consider next, is gambling, because you aren't guarantied anything.
Tbh i dont think overwatch loot boxes are gambling
IRVEE You are spending money on a probabilistic outcome, it’s pretty much the textbook definition of gambling.
I don't think so. Afaik you just get skins, and can't officially trade them for money or other skins, so it's in the grey area.
SuperStingray are yugioh cards gambling then?
