  • The time has finally come for us to strap our F90 M5 to the dyno and see what it makes on our Dyno Dynamics dynamometer.
    The car is still completely stock, and this will give us our baseline figures, along with 1/4 mile and 60-130 to begin tuning the car.

      What about the RS6 (450hp), E55 (470~hp) and M5 (400hp) from 15 years ago? Much faster than many ”sports” cars.
      And the RS6 and E55 could have even more horses with a simple tune thanks to their turbo and supercharger respectively.

    @stubones 6 лет назад +2

    The video I've been waiting for :) I expect your car will make up to 650hp once the engine is loosened up but it's going to get really interesting once you start extracting more power. Dragtimes latest video shows a new M5 CP doing the 1/4 in 11.27s at 123.77 mph. On one run it hit 60mph in 3.11s and 100mph in 7.36s. According to Brooks (the dragtimes guy) conditions were very warm. Cheers

      I think accessible fun stopped being the point a long time ago. The Germans have been locked in a game of BHP top trumps for the last 25+ years. You can still drive the car in RWD mode but it will just smoke the rear tyres and make the car rather dangerous and difficult to control on the road. It has AWD because thats the only way you can make so much power and torque safely controllable on the road.

    Will be interesting to see if the F90 can be pushed to a stage 3 i.e. bigger turbos to improve efficiency, lower IAT's and EGT's etc. I believe this would free the platform up if physically bigger turbo's (Hot and cold side) can be made to fit. Advantages are normally more power for less boost, more fuel efficient both in MPG but more critically giving the fuel system more head room to manage power, boost and temps etc if required.
    Following closely Imran.

    • @EvolveAutomotive
      @EvolveAutomotive  6 лет назад

      Valid points but the S63TU can't really handle bigger turbos without a forged engine build. Have seen many cases of bent rods when hybrid turbos and going over 700 lb ft torque.

    • @jamest5149
      @jamest5149 6 лет назад

      Noted, my comment was based on then building the engine, not much point on the standard turbos.
      Also a prefer a climbing torque curve give by large turbos and their hold on boost right to the rev limit rather than the flat of little turbos, that are flat then tail off, always feels false and looses some driver 'involvement' of chasing the red line. Another benefit of big turbos is they naturally limit torque in 1st and 2nd helping with traction.
      I am just a fan for big turbos and the way the come on song.

    So the f90 torque and power performance is only 40lb feet of torque more than the f10 M5 and the HP peaks for the f90 at just under 600 HP and the f10 more or less matches this result? So what exactly have BMW done to enhance the 4.4 litre performance in the f90 engine compared to in the f10? doesnt seem like much. Other than the engine, we have less weight of 20-30 kg and 4wheel drive

  • @sashastepanovic428

    Quick question...How are you managing to run/tune/mod the F90 / F92 when their steptronic boxes blow up transfer case...no one in Sydney Australia tunes these on standard dynos.

    • @EvolveAutomotive
      @EvolveAutomotive  Год назад +1

      We’ve never had a transfer case failure even on our 1000hp build. Our build partner Mr VANOS pushed past the limits of standard gearbox whilst chasing an 8s 1/4 mile, transfer case is still fine.
      We mostly road tune these now, a properly linked dyno is required for high power tuning, but even then airflow demand starts to get difficult at such high horsepower and real world is much more accurate.

    Its odd that BMW is officially rating the engine so low. I remember being at the Philadelphia Auto Show 2018 back in February, and the BMW rep there was saying this engine had 600+ HP. Why are they officially downplaying what it puts out? Unless the dyno is reading really low, but i'd figure they'd be calibrating that thing properly.

    • @kayak1995

      Because germans like to dyno the engines at the worst conditions, so wherever you are you have at least 600 hp ( altitude, heat...)

      I guess its because they test their engines in the worst conditions to give you the min, and also because of tax reasons for the customers- CC and HP are counting into the Vehicle-Taxes- At least where I am from.

    I bet old stock M5 V10 is faster in hig speed than this new one, even way less power and torque.. Or can this new one pull 330kmh+? Dont think so, i know f12 cant beqt E60. Can this one? And i talk about hig speed.

      Evolve Automotive i know the Car is AWD, but i also do know that you only should Dyno an AWD Car if its possible to lock the Center Diff so the Ratio is 50:50 Front/Rear, like the Subis with DCCD.

    • @TheS1PikesPeak
      @TheS1PikesPeak 6 лет назад +1

      Another possibility is to use a Dyno where the front and rear rollers are connected together so that the drive inequality is compensated, for example, by having a car with 70:30 AWD Ratio.

    • @EvolveAutomotive
      @EvolveAutomotive  6 лет назад +1

      We have heard reports from other tuners that the car does not make full power in RWD only mode. It's something we will be testing, along with a 'roller mode' to see if we get any different figures. We are also going to take the car to a linked dynojet to see how the dynojet figures compare, and if the graph shape is different on a linked dyno.

    • @TheS1PikesPeak
      @TheS1PikesPeak 6 лет назад +1

      Evolve Automotive In my experience, none of the results is correct neither in RWD mode nor as shown here in the video in AWD mode without Connected Dyno, if it does not really have full power in RWD mode. I think in AWD mode with Connected Dyno he will make 660-670 HP, and about 590 to 600 pounds
