You can adjust the back brakes back up with the drum installed, it’s much easier to do it that way, there is a square or rectangle rubber plug you remove on the inside right at the auto adjuster. Then just adjust them up with a flat blade screw driver., you can loosen them there as well , you just have to stick something in to push the self adjuster locking clip (probably not it’s proper name) out so you can loosen them. Thanks for the e brake cable video, I needed exactly what you had in your video, I did the rear cables when I when over the drive line to overhaul it, I am too the cab now , almost done, I have went over just about every inch of a 93 XLT F-150. It’s the little things like finishing that e brake that can bog you down it seems like. Thanks again!
Great video brother same as Jose Trujillo never thought I’d be fixing my brake pedal assembly on my 93 ranger quickly changed my mind after being told today at the mechanic that they’d charge me $504 to install the lever assembly with all existing cables. Helped alot I already had an idea and you made it so much easier
This was really helpful, had to change the cable on my 94 F150 and the ratchet strap did the trick. I did have to remove the rear wheels and loosen the adjustment screw on the brakes to get enough slack.
Just what I may need however I have a 1988 F250 and that front cable is different to where it connects to what I have that's called a "cinch strap hook" and "equalizer bar". But > > > I still need to remove the barking brake pedal assembly as it's not ratcheting or returning... possible gummed-up and the front cable is rusted-up. (I just replaced both rear L & R cables)
the front cable is spring loaded and you can pull it back by hand to give you enough slack to connect the two cables together without have to over stress with the ratchet strap. I pulled it by hand and put taped vice grips on the cable to hod it until I put the slug into the recepticle
Thanks for the video. Just painstakingly changed out the rusty cable on my 95 f150. Your video helped loads. I was able to pull tension on the new cable from the lever side to make that last connection reach and work. Let me know if that's a bad way to do it for any reason. Seems like its working fine and fitting well though. Thanks again!
What length is that front parking cable? They come in so many different lengths! I have a 95 F150 single-cab, long bed. I believe the total length of the front cable I need is either 67” or 72”. Thx
It is the shorter one. The truck I had in the video was a single cab long bed. this was the part I used. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C9JF82/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews Best of luck with it.
This was a very good video. However, I'm really struggling with mine. I have the exact same setup as you. I purchased the exact same front cable, also. However, after replacing the rear brake shoes and fulling adjusting it to the loosest position, even with the ratchet strap I still cannot get the front cable to attach to the rear. At it's most tensioned it's still about half a inch too short. Even if we were to get it pulled far enough forward to attach, it would be so tight that the brake shoes would be engaged at all times. Any ideas?
Jose .you will need the right one for your truck. there are options. sinle cab, cab and a half, crew cab, length of bed. It is a little confusing when ordering this. I would measure the brken cable. It will really help you to find the right length for your truck. I use rockauto.com or amazon. Best of luck with it.
Thank you! All these years later, your video helped this poor fool out!
Never thought I’d be replacing the brake cable on my 92 f150 with almost 300K miles. Thanks for the video. It was easier than I thought.
This answered all 17 of my questions. Seriously. Thank you so much🙏🙏going to save me so much time!!
