Because that specific mini gun, does not use an exposed belt for ammunition storage. Instead, you can see a drum attached to it. The belt is not visible exposed, it is coiled up inside of said drum.

If anyone's still wondering which to buy, they're both the same gun. Widowmaker just got a reskin, the only reason he got different results is due to rng and basic human error (things like not shooting at the same exact spot, etc.) If you're wondering about the unholy deathbringer, it's the same gun as the base combat mg, apart from the fact you don't have to reload. If you want to save money, get the minigun, if you want to skip the grind to 120, get the widowmaker.

Of course a high quality apartment (over 200k which include heists), a car with basic tuning, and some cheap weapons are way better place for this early money.

They are both the same in nature BUT- my friend pointed this out, you hold the widowmaker lower which makes it so you can’t aim over certain walls to hit people, I have tested this at the government facility that you go to in the doomsday server farm setup and got the results, there’s a small wall that the widowmaker can’t shoot over but the mini gun can, in conclusion, just level up to get the mini gun, it’s better to grind the road and buy it for 50k than spend 500k and never end up using it like me.

I can't believe the amount of people agreeing with the OP. Lasers do not have an application against people like this, at least not like bullets. It would take an incredibly high power laser to rip through a human like a regular bullet can, and that will kill much faster that being cooked by light. Lasers have their application against light armor and fast movers, and surprise surprise, that's how the US Navy uses them.

The Widowmaker might be more expensive but you can get it at rank 1. The Minigun only unlocks at rank 120.

The laser actually comes out lower compared to the minigun's bullets, so you cant shoot over certain obstacles that you would usually be able to shoot over with the minigun. Prime example being the boxes and whatnot in Doomsday Act III, the lazers shoot the boxes instead of going over them

If you are standing close to a corner of a wall, minigun can shoot through when aiming, while widowmaker switch to 'hold against wall' animation which prevents from aiming and shooting. Both happen in first person I believe
minigun can shoot through some obstacles and narrow wall that widowmaker cant.
Using widowmaker risky since player will know ur location.
The laser effect turn the screen a bit dim, so it will hard for player around to aim, may grant advantage in pvp, but really bad for co-op heist mission

Widowmaker, even lvl 1 can have it if they have the money
In weapon wheel, having 2 minigun will give trouble to switch to rpg, and it is unfortunate to disable minigun,

Yup, it's just a reskin minigun with a different firing sound (the spooling is the same sound tho) and no level requirement, but 10x the price too. :(
That just shows how Shark Cards effect the sales. The Homing Launcher is around 75k! Yet we got a reskinned minigun more expensive than a great deal of the older super cars!

CONCLUSION
Although the stats of the Minigun significantly beat the Widowmaker, the widowmaker is a better alternative as you don't need to be a certain rank to unlock it, however for the Minigun you need to be rank 120 to unlock it which makes it a less efficient alternative. So in my opinion i would consider saving up and buying the Widowmaker if your new, but if u are broke at rank 120+ (which is highly unlikely) then buy the minigun

I used to envy people with Widowmaker, the hellbringer, and the up-n-atomizer, which i cant afford to purchase all three items. My luck changed soon enough when i was playing in this session one day and decided to grief a guy with my kranjahi tank, which when i went near him my tank suddenly broke down for no reason. I decided to fight him using my weapons but found out that for some reason my whole inventory was empty. I thought i lost all the guns and throwables forever for a second, and i immediately pleaded for my gun back. After 10 minutes of pleading, the suspected hacker decided to give me back my items. After i checked my inventory, i found out that not only he had given me back my loot, but also provided with all 3 new guns i had mentioned above 😂
Morale of the story:
