Putting together the styrofoam plug that will be used for fiberglass mold making. Plug was CNC machined from Extruded Polystyrene.

Loved how you included your reaction when you saw the car coming together on the floor. I basically did the same thing when my DIY 3D printer started making its first print.

It’s pretty sweet that this is a fairly untouched niche in the “body” industry. i would love to see a cnc machine big enough to make entire bodies in one go.
They exist, but it is very expensive to buy them or two even have a body cut for you. Like, VERY.
I am very impressed with your work. I also subscribed to your channel . Thank you for the forum information, so I can build my own CAD machine etc. I'm new to this technology but I'll soon learn it . I have a major project in the works and I need to build my own CAD ,to make everything come together. I am using my own money and not investors because I don't trust them.

Its not as complicated as people think. 2D machining is even easier.

Do you make plugs for specific chassis? I'm new to all of this. Correct me if I'm wrong, you shape the plugs(car body parts-fenders?) so you can cast the fiberglass molds from them? Thanx for the video great work!
If you needed a body designed to specific chassis dimensions i could do that. yes, the plugs are to create molds/tooling for fiberglass parts.

About 4 % smaller. Using the Lotus Europa as a donar car is dot legal and allows 4-6 cycln. Engine use etc. Note looking for wide body version GT40. I have a second project a set of molds for Pantera on fiero car. Looks alright, ah I have a update for custom upgraded look to make new molds after ad on molds.
If a customer designs a custom car body, and gives you a 3D model w/realistic dimensions to make a plug, how much roughly would you charge?
around 5k. depending on the season and how busy i am it can get up to 8k sometimes.

Hi, good work on this ! I would like to build bodykits in the future and I have some questions : What is the CNC machine that you use ? You do the 3d models on Rhino and then send the models to the CNC machine who build those pink blocks in polystyrene, then you build the mold on this and finally the fiberglass kit ?
Hi, the CNC machine i use is custom built, but its a 3 axis with an 8 inch Z axis. CADD drawing is done with Rhino 3D. A "CAM" software is used to create G-code that will be read by a post processing program on a computer that connects to the machine. The CNC mills/cuts the Styrofoam rather than builds it.

Would a spray on glue be easier/ faster than drywall screws?
i do use a spray on adhesive to piece the parts together. however that is simply not enough for some sections to stay together so i use screws as sort of "skewers" to help support the pieces.

Hello, I'm using rhino 3d as a modeling software, but there may be easier packages to learn like sketchup.

What function in Rhino/how did you section those parts to be able to be milled in those separate pieces?
With Rhino, you can draw a line, "extrude" it through the object that you want split, then use the tool "split" to split the object.

How much are you selling thee for ? What frame do they go on or do you have to have a tube frame or composite or ? Is you plug good to fiberglass or carbon fiber right over or do you coat it with some thing first ? I would love to visit with you more on the car ! Thanks
cody cheney if this was me, I would take the Zhonda and weld up a steel tube chassis, in the back of the chassis I would take the front subframe and engine/transaxle out of a VW TDI and swap it into the rear, extend the shifter cables. You could even convert the TDI to bio diesel afterward, literally 70-90MPG+ daily driven Zhonda.... who cares if anyone keys it, it’s fibreglass, truck bed liner the whole bottom and wheel wells and you’ll be good for centuries, you could winter drive the thing lmao. Just zinc plate everything.

Facts, Connections No Opinions i won’t even bother i he does not want my money some other companies will, as i have done a quick search online and found two cnc companies that cut foam and i was given a quote for their service and to my advantage the item that i will receive will be from one piece which will save me a lot of time.

@@InspireCNC Nate, I have been trying to properly bond the Foamular 250 pink foam. I have tried a number of products. All have issues. It appears you are using 3M SUPER 77 spray adhesive. I use that a lot, too. Also use the made for styrofoam 3M 78 spray adhesive. It is white instead of the dark red color. Have you tried Glidden GRIP? If you let the two coated surfaces 'air' until very tacky before joining the two surfaces, it seems to cure over the complete bond area. If you join the two surfaces too soon, especially large area surfaces like the ones you use, the bond will not cure completely. It seems to require air to initiate the cure. If you are not using 3M SUPER 77 spray, what are you using? Regards, Joe T.

I just checked your channel. I tried evaluating rhino on 3 separate occasions, I just couldn't get into it. Im using fusion 360, I find it more intuitive.

You can learn CADD and model the cars yourself or you can buy existing models from websites.I cant list the websites here but you can google search.
