  • This video was originally posted in Shorts to address a P0455 P0441 check engine light on a VW Passat, but I feel like folks who might need it aren't seeing it show up in search results. Posting it in long for so that it is easier to bookmark and add to playlists. I hope you find this video fixing an EVAP Purge Valve on a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0t B6 EA113 (not the EA888 2.0t) helpful. Works for all model years of the VW Passat B6 generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011).

I replaced this part but still have the code, any ideas what might still be causing it?

Hi Joshua, its hard to diagnose remotely, but here's where I would start. First, when you pulled the purge valve, did you confirm it was actually broken? Basically you can try blowing into it, if you can't, that means it is working (sealing properly--or stuck closed, but you would have a different pcode). Next, just to state maybe the obvious, but did you erase the pcode with a scan tool and confirm it came back? From there, the next likely issue is the gas cap. Take it off and visually inspect it. See if the o-ring aroung the cap looks dried/brittle/broken. Even if it's looking ok but a 10 year old gas cap, it could be that the o-ring has flattened over time. A new cap is not that expensive and worth trying to replace. From there, it's a little harder to diagnose. VW's have a fuel tank filler neck that does go bad over time, or it could be any of the hoses in the EVAP system that is cracked or leaking, along with the vent canister. This is usually when a smoke machine would get involved.

The washer fluid pump replacement video for the Passat was well received in vertical format. Check that out here: ruclips.net/video/pq9HnrpYxSE/видео.html I decided to convert a short video to long form in the hope that more people will find it and it'll help solve their check engine light problems.
