Nobody knows about anyone's orientation until it's stated. We work ourselves into a corner with sexual perceptions. CA has laws against that.
@@pjselarom1290 he was effeminate and people made the assumption he was gay. i really don't understand why people feel the need to tell us they knew he was gay. it's irrelevant and often feels like they're trying to dim his moment, as if he can't talk about his own sexuality since it was perceived by them already. in this case though, it is clear that @JoseLopez-zu9uk is saying that they supported david, even in knowing his sexuality. because a lot of people still do not accept david for who he is.

I love David, but as a gay who loves the Lord, I cannot wish anyone to go to hell. Even if it is an instrument of suggestion, there is no joy in hell and there is no hope. Those who will turn their backs on us under the guise of religion are the ones who also must face judgment. I believe in living my life to harm no one, but we also must live our lives to what we feel and then to hope for the best that we have made the right choices.
But we literally don't have to do anything to "earn" God's love. We are always enough and He loves us. This song is about shutting down the bigots.
It's not literal hell. It's a "what if" question. It's not the first song written with a heaven hell "what if" theme. The message is of love. And if hate & homophobia is accepted in this heaven, then what? The most important lyrics word is "IF"

"Bow your head. Don't be bold"... "You'll survive by doing what you're told". "Love is earned and you can't choose"... The struggle to Pray, obey, be reverent, deny your truth and plead for God's mercy and for acceptance... "But the more you grow you'll know the TRUTH". What could this powerful lyric mean? ...IMO, SURVIVAL and REALIZATION that if the path you are obediently on is leading you to darkness instead of light, eventually you must take a different direction or parish. Think without limits for yourself, with clarity and intelligence, for example, the structure of a religion is based off of man's interpretation of scripture. Even scripture has been written by man, albeit through prophecy, but still by the hands of man. Handed down through generations and rewritten by the hands of man over time in many languages. Mankind is imperfect and has biases, right? But still God is love... A mother looks around at congregation who believes her son is going to hell If he lives a life that is true to himself...But he is God's creation, she realizes that her child has suffered enough and doesn't want to be in a place where her son isn't welcome anymore because he wants to live his truth as a way of survival. "Then let them close the gates" (meaning the congregation). "If paradise is pressure". She is understanding that this religion's structure has set him up for failure just for simply being the person that he is. Her son has obediently followed the teachings that are supposed to bring him happiness and blessings. Why has he been in misery? Then, "halleluiah? What's it doing for you? when it's in the way?" Of forgiveness and truth, finding peace, love, happiness and acceptance. "I don't want to live forever, in someone else's heaven"..."Ooh, we'll go to hell together"... "If they don't like the way you're made then they're not any better"... Get it? It's someone else's Heaven and hell. Not literally choosing hell over heaven. *Interpretation is key*.
