    Despite the fact that I invest, I am saddened by my inability to evaluate each company's performance and determine whether or not this is the ideal time to purchase stocks.       Sincerely it's best to seek an advisor right now, unless you're canny yourself. As a business owner in both the service industry and eBay reseller of all product categories, I can tell you we’re in a deep recession and everyone is running out of money.

      Very true, people downplay advisors role, until burnt by their mistakes. I remember just after my layoff early 2020 amidst covid outbreak, I needed to stay afloat, hence researched for license advisors.

    Dividends from the stock market encouraged me to begin investing. What matters, in my opinion, is that if you invest and make additional money in addition to dividends, you will be able to live off of dividends without selling.     Stocks extended their year-to-date rally following the CPI report, with the S&P 500 last up 0.8% in afternoon trading. but I don't know if stocks will quickly rebound for a few weeks, .I am under pressure to grow my reserve of $250k.

      Aggregate US Market Value: $48.97T
      Annualized GDP: $26.91T
      Buffett Indicator: $48.97T ÷ $26.91T = 182%
      This ratio fluctuates over time since the value of the stock market can be very volatile, but GDP tends to grow much more predictably. The current ratio of 182% is approximately 51.35% (or about 1.7 standard deviations) above the historical trend line, suggesting that the stock market is Overvalued relative to GDP.

      You can't be general with statements about over 100,000 US Publicly traded companies. Some overvalued, some near 52 week highs, some heavy debt, some with lower forecast earnings and sales.

    Transfer of wealth usually occur during market crash, so the more stocks drop, the more I buy, in the meanwhile I'm just focused on making better investments and earning more as recession fear increases, apparently there are strategies to 3x gains in this present market cos I read of someone that pulled a profit of $350k within 6months, and it would really help if you could make a video covering these strategies.

      you have to get a financial-advisor/broker to aid you diversify your portfolios to include commodities, inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows, as opposed to growth stocks where valuations were based on future potential earnings,

      A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.

    50 years of history: $10,000 invested in Money market funds in 1973 is now worth $94,195.
    $10,000 invested in the S&P 500 is now worth $ 1,467,617. And the 1973 starting date is just before a bear market that caused a 45% drop in the S&P.

    Well, that's the key phrase, Mr. Siegel... "long run". A lot of people are in their elderly years and don't frankly have a "long run." They need somewhere to park their valuable nest egg without worrying about a stock market downturn that could take half their wealth and never return it in their lifetimes.

    What if I’ve got my money in bonds paying a 5% coupon, the market crashes, interest rates drop and I can dump my bonds for a profit, which I then use to buy cheap stocks?

      Interest rate drops will also increase stocks. I'm also considering buying some long-term bond ETF shares to get a capital gain when interest rates drop, but that's a short-term play. Over the long run (20+ years), stocks will do better

    I’m long $TLT right here. Downside is limited upside is good. Long duration bonds can move significantly in value. This is a better risk reward trade then most stocks right now.

    Thats definitely spot on. Stocks are WAYYY better than 5% fixed income... Thats if you pick the right stocks tho. There is little doubt about that, as stocks historically return 7% after inflation. My wife and I are currently adding a variety of stocks/ETF to my present holdings for the long term, We've started following inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows, I believe it is a good time to capitalize on the market for long-term gains, but it also wouldn't hurt to know means of actualizing short term profit.

      @ambertraceyyy According to a recent investopedia report, demand for portfolio coaches has surged by more than 41.8% since the epidemic. Based on my own experience, I can confidently state that these coaches have superior skill sets, since I was able to raise over $700,000 in just 14 months after employing one. Thats a way better option

    I thought this was an INVESTMENT channel, not a stock channel? As an individual INVESTOR (not speculator), I need both lower & high volatility investments to give my portfolio balance for both long term growth and the ability to weather a downturn.     "Past performance is no indicative of future results." Just because the market has always gone up in the past doesn't mean it will continue to go up in the future. Depending on the situation, a 5% guaranteed return starts to look very compelling compared to a 10% return with risk. I used to keep my emergency fund in a very conservative funds but at these rates 5% guaranteed there is no point.

    Oh ffs, the reductiveness of this conversation was completely asinine. Presuming a bond purchaser will hold to maturity in an environment in which there is a stampede to safety from equities is beyond journalistic malpractice. Long-dated bonds can move in price as much as 15% for every 100 bips the Fed peels away. But Siegel seems blissfully ignorant of this unavoidable math (or maybe wary of mentioning it for some reason).
    What a waste of airtime this discussion was.

    I must have done it backwards... I was taught 10% was the growth target... so I invested in corporate bonds that paid 10%... then when the investment got to $1 million I pulled the funds and bought short term t bills... and then just took the interest funds being made and used that to live on... the target of fixed income was not to go over the medicare IRMA limit of $190K/yr... so after I added up the SS and a small pension I knew how much more I needed to reach the target of $190K/yr of combined income from SS/pension/bonds.... so far its worked perfectly for that Target... you just need to plan on the RMD not pushing the fixed income over the $190K target.... if you have everything paid off then you can live pretty well on $190K/yr

    Cnbc being transparent as heck. They keep talking up equities over bonds, because cnbc makes money when more of us buy stocks. However, there are many situations where bonds make sense. Falling GDP, sticky high inflation, Powel saying rates need to go up more, these are all good reasons to own bonds. 50% of my money is going towards that 5% bond yield right now. As for the other 50%, everytime I stick it in the stock market, I lose some. Go figure.

    Ya, but tactically it still makes sense to allocate to treasuries right now because stocks are just nuts. Just last month this guy was pumping up a bull market rally. If you had bought stocks at that level, you may not get any return for the next 5 years. He's a permabear, always take his comments with a grain of salt.

      @@keto6789 probably somewhere around there if you annualize. Absolutely terrible the past 2 years which is what makes it so spectacular. This isn't a company that is going down . This is a treasury yield that directly correlates to the function of the US government. Reversion to the mean is a thing for a variety of reasons. Like you don't buy bonds when they are constantly going up. You don't buy bonds in 2021. You buy bonds at the end of a tightening cycle when yields are high. TLT has virtually been cut in half from its high. If that doesn't make you downright greedy, I don't know what to tell you

    Always tremendously enjoy any segment with Dr. Seigel! And..he never said to have ALL of one's assets in stocks..a real "epiphany" for me, was when I read, "The Millionaire Next Door", many years ago..where it stresses the importance of having a ten year "Go to hell fund". Treasuries are just FINE, but only for short to intermediate reserves.

    You can get 5% tax free income in muni bonds. Why would you if you're making good income put money in stocks ...unless you are twenty years old and have the years to stay in index etf. But if you are fifty years old buy the muni at 5%.

      7 plus percent on a tax free investment never mind sleeping at night not worrying about if the technology stocks you bought are going bankruptcy or something else happens like a bad income report 50 % loses like in 2022 and 2000... I personally don't think you understand Muni bonds , the overall advantage of ownership. If you're Dad is still working at his age god bless. I been out of my own technology business sold it for major upside. Wouldn't be in anything else but Muni bonds. But you have to have the taxable income to make them play in your benefit. Investment like QQQ is gambling on technology. Nothing more or less..
