@@MrFredstt It is remarkable that NBC kept it for three years, but it was a foreign produced show that was purchased by NBC for broadcast. I absolutely love this show. Mads is mesmerising as Hannibal (I actually prefer him in the role). The on screen chemistry between him and Hugh Dancy is absolute magic to watch. The show is so well made, from the writing to the cinematography, sound design etc . But Mads and Hugh are the real stars, it’s the sort of pairing that doesn’t happen that often. I’m thinking Bryan and Aaron (Breaking Bad) level of pairing, it’s just perfect.
To be far Mads had a lot more time to inhabit Hannibal, but he was fantastic, as was Hopkins. Even Brian Cox made his mark as Lektor(sp) in Manhunter. Loved this series and am still disappointed they didn't get a fourth season, when they were planning the Lambs storyline.
@@brom00 yeah absolutely! The fact we get so much more time with Mads to really delve into his character really helps. Don’t get me wrong, Anthony Hopkins is absolutely iconic as Hannibal Lecter, but there’s just something about Mads’ performance I find so so mesmerising. I’m gutted we didn’t get more too. But at least this show does have a satisfying ending of sorts. It’s top tier TV for sure.
@@brom00 another fantastic TV show adaption that is already an iconic movie series is The Exorcist. I really did not expect that to work but damn was is good. Really superb stuff and hugely underrated in my opinion. Another one that got cancelled too soon.
The incomprehensibility of the murderer's logic is the whole point of Will's ability. No one else can understand their logic, except him. The point being that their logic doesn't make sense to anyone but themselves.
And not many people would want to empathize with murderers, setting aside if they could even do it. (but Will wants to do it to help and save people!).
I’m so glad you’re reacting to this show. It’s brilliant..the visuals alone are amazing. Bryan fuller made a great interpretation of Hannibal and wills relationship.
This is one of the best and most underrated shows. The cinematography, art direction, and score are superb. It’s what avant-garde filmmaking should aspire to be.
Hannibal is portrayed as a master chef. Pretty much everything he cooks and prepares is designed to be outstanding. Some episodes really do make me hungry. I'd say which might be my pick, but I don't want to... Spoil the show... Heh
Also he doesnt eat human meat 24/7 The idea is to confuse the viewer completely by not knowing what hes cooking in which scene, and it works scaringly well
@@Bavarian_Lifting That is a good point, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's aware that he'd need other kinds of protein in his diet, probably some chicken and/or fish to help with variety.
I think the idea of helping the victims communicate might be based on the way mushrooms form a connected colony, integrated enough that some biologists say we should view the colony as a single superorganism with each seemingly separate mushroom actually a part of a single extended individual.
I think that with the mushroom guy he wasn't trying to connect with his victims but rather make them connect with each other (victims and mushrooms) and be a part of the mushroom network.
Love the decision to make all the meal scenes so delicious looking while also being obvious that its human meat so that it actually triggers the viewer to have the base involuntary reaction of "oh that looks tasty" to trigger that internal conflict. Underrated show all round
I'm in agreement with Ms. Movies that Hannibal does in fact receive some sick satisfaction or amusement from witnessing his dinner guest unknowingly share a appetite similar to his own, which likely makes him feel like less of an outcast at the end of the day for his peculiar predilections.
Man this show is a wild ride. Fun to see you’re reacting to it. Mads Mikkelsen does an amazing job considering how iconic Anthony Hopkins is as Hannibal. I’m glad he didn’t just try to copy Hopkins performance, feels like it’s own entity
These are serial killers. They don’t need to have a “why” that makes sense. To them, they do what they do because it makes sense to THEM. I love this show and I’m always happy when new reactors get to experience the complex and psychological horror of this beautiful show. It’s great!
Huzzah! More Hannibal! I love this show so much! "Our conversation can proceed unobstructed by paperwork" as in, ethics and rules don't apply if it's not really therapy. Also, this show pretends to be a police procedural for a bit, and then stops doing that after a while. Lots of people think they should try to solve the crime alone with the FBI, you can't really do that. Will just vibrates and sweats for a while and then says things like "this is my design. He wants connection." And everybody nods and just rolls with it. The show is more about the psychology of the characters than the crimes they're solving. Those crimes are basically window dressing. :)
Just went down a rabbit hole with the Freddie Lounds character remembering that they were in other adaptations of Harris' work, including Manhunter, and that they were usually red headed. I hadn't seen Manhunter in 20 or so years and hadn't realized Freddie was played by Stephen Lang in that film. He looked so different when he was younger.
THIS IS THE BEST, OH MY GOD. I absolutely LOVE this show, it's amazing; the chemistry between Mads and Hugh, the story, the effects, everything will blown your mind. The best show.
Thanks for watching this, stick with it better than the movies. (Just my thoughts, not from the writers)Mushroom guy was using mushrooms/fungi to connect because some say they act like neurons and also mushrooms can connect to other mushrooms and be one almost. So if all the mushrooms are connected and one with all of the bodies, they can communicate. And he assumes no one else can connect with other people just like he can't so he's experimenting/giving a gift. That's how I always thought of it. But I'm sure there is a deeper meaning, there usually always is, and that is going to be hard to pick up every single one in this show.
You’re in for a wild, amazing ride! This is my absolute favorite series (I’ve rewatched it more times than I can count) so I’m so excited to see your reaction to the show!
I'm so excited that you guys are watching this!! It is one of my absolute favorite tv shows!! The visuals, characters, acting, storylines, everything is AMAZING
First BSG, now Hannibal-I’m so thrilled with your choices, they are two of my all-time favorites! I recommend watching with English subtitles. Hannibal’s accent can be tough, but mostly because he says such strange things that it makes you wonder if you heard him correctly.
Yessss one of my all time favorite shows! Really unique editing, cinematography, sound design, food styling, art direction. Beautiful. Mads and Hugh Dancy is a love story for the ages. May we all hope for another season or film. Even still, it has a satiating season three finale.
Such a brilliant show - the way it's shot, the soundtrack, the ambience. It's on my re-watch list, but for now I'll chill with you reviewing it. Mads Mikkelsen did a fantastic job portraying Hannibal.
So glad you’re checking this out. It couldn’t be more perfect casting with the amazing Mads Mikkelsen. I even loved the casting for Freddie Lounds lol. Great review!
The show is a comedy. Always look closer at Hannibal's face, you will see what he actually thinks. As the series progressed, it became borderline telepathy for me. also 31:27 : Interesting choice of words Mrs. Movies, lol.
Just finished this show. And it might be the most underrated show ever, despite its universal acclaim Mads has the best Hannibal portrayal over Hopkins IMO
The first two seasons of this show are my favorite network tv episodes ever. Love the portrayal of Will and Hannibal, by the second season finale I was watching it pacing in front of my tv. *edit* your missus should ditch the ear buds. The sound design in this show is intense. *edit2* 18:29 that is exactly right. *edit3* sorry, but yes Hannibal’s the copy cat killer.
There’s a Japanese show called MPD Psycho (Multiple Personality Detective Psycho) directed by Takashi Miike, and Hannibal is almost a remake of it. The Hannibal show is like a take on MPD Psycho that interweaves aspects of the different Hannibal books and movies.
really excited ur watching hannibal!! i think you'll find that the focus is less on the serial killers that are cycled out, but more on the theme of each episode and how it plays out in the relationships between the characters. the show is way more focused on the development of will and hannibal's relationship/dynamic. and mads mikkelsen is very elegant in his role as hannibal, you'll definitely grow to like him, maybe even more than anthony hopkins :)
One of the best and criminally underrated shows that almost surpasses the movies. Hugh Dancy's Will Graham is the perfect crichendo of what character actors William Peterson and Ed Norton did before him. HOT Take I almost prefer Mads Mikkelsen Hannibal Lecter interpretation over Anthony Hopkins.Solely because I feel it is the best adaptation of the character almost book accurate. Damn, *"N**JAS BE CANCELING"(NBC)* for suspending this & Lincoln Rhyme in their peak and their prime.
I'm so happy you're watching this show! This show is spectacular but REALLY finds its feet in the second half of the first season! Season 2 is, to this day, one of my favorite seasons of television ever!
as he explained, the mushroom knows when he is near and i guess expresses it somehow. and psychopath or not ppl do need somekind of connections even they don’t understand. as him being psychopath he probably didn’t connect with other ppl, and can’t feel connection and recognition from others, but i guess he felt recognitions from how mushroom reacts when he was around and felt connection and got obsessed by the feeling. idk this was the writer’s actual propose, but i interpret as this.
Episode 2 is about the only time in my tv viewing life that I've viscerally felt body horror. The concept is the only thing that has ever really got to me. It's just foul
Did you notice the names of the episodes? An unsettlingly (sp) beautiful series. Hard to believe this was on NETWORK television (NBC). Even harder to believe it was cancelled after 3 seasons. Creators are chomping at the bit to do a 4th season.
Love that you're reacting to this show. Everytime I watched an episode I kept wondering what was wrong with me that I thought ALL the food looked delicious.
I am SO excited to see you reacting to this! It's one of my all time favourite shows - it's so artistic and has stunning visuals, and the acting is just mint 👌
Man this is so exciting to finally be rewatching with you guys! I will say with all the food stuff, the shows Food Stylist, Janice Poon, released a cookbook after the show ended called Feeding Hannibal. Probably the coolest thing I own. Has recipes for so many of the dishes in this show(made of course with animal not human). I'm a vegetarian so I'm not making the majority of the stuff in here, but it's still cool to look through and get to read fun behind the scenes stuff when it came to the food in the show. Super excited for next week and for every week after that to see you guys watch! Do you plan on bingeing through the 3 seasons or will there be breaks in between?
A little trivia if no one else has mentioned.. Bryan Fuller, the producer of this show, also produced a little show called Wonderfalls. Will's friend played by Caroline Dhavernas stars in Wonderfalls, and the blonde that gets taken to start the new garden reprises her roll of Gretchen Speck from Wonderfalls here. It's a fun quirky show that got cancelled way too soon and would make for a great palate cleanser after Hannibal.
This is the best show to have ever aired on TV in my opinion. The dialogue, the music, the story, the ambience, the acting, the editing, the cinematography. It was all perfect!!! No mistakes in this series! Bryan Fuller is a genius.
This show is so amazing. One of my favorites. This show cemented Mads Mikkelsen as my favorite actor of all time. And this is by far Hugh Dancy's best role and best performance. I'm so glad this show is on this channel. Also, on a separate note: Ms. Movies is confused about why the serial killers are killing and is annoyed that the show isn't explaining motivations. I would just like to say, killers get caught everyday and we often never sus-out a motivation. A lot of serial killers keep their reasons to themselves. Not every serial killer kills to become famous and well known.
I and many others had reservations about anyone playing this role other than Hopkins. But now I actually prefer Mickelsen's Hannibal. I find him riveting. Also, the art direction and cinematography of this series is the best I've ever seen on network TV. Somehow, they make the most gruesome scenes look like beautiful art.
That was far from embarrassing, you're normal it happens 🙂 Comfort and imperfection is relatable. Some would have stumped me in the ground for that little thing.
OMG - FINALLY SOMEBODY IS DOING THE GREATEST MOST BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART EVER PUT ON SCREEN - THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE TOP 3 TV SERIES OFF ALL TIME EVEN THOUGH THEY CUT IT SHORT AFTER A COUPLE SEASONS BECAUSE RATINGS THE DAMN FOOLS - SAVOUR THIS SHOW MY DUDES IT IS A WORK OF PURE GENIUS - NOW LEMME GO WATCH OUR REACTION - I AM SURE IT'S GONNA BE FIRE - RECKON MISS MOVIE GONNA BE BANG INTO THIS - MR MADDS AKA HANNIBAL IS SO SO GOOD ❣❣❣
Before I even watch the review, I have to say that I am SOOOOOOO excited you guys are watching this! I love this show so much. It's really GORGEOUS from a production standpoint & the acting is top-notch. Mads & Hugh are delicious (ha ha) together & the rest of the cast is delightful as well. The set pieces & the music/sound design & just EVERYTHING is breathtaking. I really need to sit down & binge it again. ❤🍽😍🔪🥰 Oh, I forgot to mention: HANNIBAL'S SUITS!!!!! Those clothes are to die for & Mads wears them exceedingly well. Pardon my swoon.
Hannibal IS a copycat, but there are two specific things to consider. 1) He copies a killer when it suits his purpose. He uses the girl in the field to illustrate and shine a light on things Garrett Jacob Hobbs does, so Hannibal is essentially helping Will. He even says in the previous scene "This cannibal you are hunting, I think I can help Good Will see his face" and then it changes to the girl in the field. 2) He does it to show dominance over a killer. Hannibal is a psychological killer. He likes to manipulate. He warned GJHs on the phone because he knew the most likely outcome would be that GJHs would murder or try to murder his own family. GJH may have killed the wife and severely injured his daughter, but Hannibal would see those as his kills. Hannibal is the God with but one sentence caused death and the destruction of a family. If you have even slight issues with Mads accent, please consider using subtitles because the lines that Hannibal says not only are amazingly written but give clues as to what his motivations might be. As an example, the "I can help Will see the killer" and then the copycat happens. This is my favorite show of all time and I am so happy you guys are reacting to it.
OMG your really doing it !!!! WOOOOOTTTT ty so much, i hope youys enjoy this series, its reaelly good - but it is serialized style no bingee watch style. One of thoose things you can totally mis half the message getting distracted by the visuals. i had to watch t his th ing 3 times to appreciate it.
I'm glad you guys are doing this show. It's one of my all-time favorites. It might have been my absolute favorite if it had been given a proper ending.
Most times, Hannibal's motivation is "I am the smartest person in the room and I wanted to see what would happen if I kicked this domino off"
I would definitely agree but at times I imagine with Hannibal's level of insight and imagination he probably has already anticipated how events may unfold and is just curious to see if his predictions are accurate.

as he explained, the mushroom knows when he is near and i guess expresses it somehow. and psychopath or not ppl do need somekind of connections even they don’t understand. as him being psychopath he probably didn’t connect with other ppl, and can’t feel connection and recognition from others, but i guess he felt recognitions from how mushroom reacts when he was around and felt connection and got obsessed by the feeling. idk this was the writer’s actual propose, but i interpret as this.
Episode 2 is about the only time in my tv viewing life that I've viscerally felt body horror. The concept is the only thing that has ever really got to me. It's just foul

This show is a masterpiece 🤲can’t wait for more❤
An unsettlingly (sp) beautiful series.
Yes! I love this show!
Oh this is gonna be an amazing reaction series
"I'm such an idiot" "That's why I married you" Great couple indeed 😂❤😂
Freddie Lounds was originally a male character. Seen in Red Dragon played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman
And in Manhunter played by Stephen Lang (the Avatar & Don't Breathe films).
Hahahaha he said that as defense, he has no problem making eye contact
So glad to see the two of you doing this show. It's so good!
Do you plan on bingeing through the 3 seasons or will there be breaks in between?
found the vegetarian!
@@simvlacrvm yes you did!
It's a fun quirky show that got cancelled way too soon and would make for a great palate cleanser after Hannibal.
this is one of my top 3 tv shows of all time. HANNIBAL, SPARTACUS, AND BREAKINGBAD.
Hell yeah, Hannibal!
I'm very happy you're reacting to this show. I hope you like it!
This is the best show to have ever aired on TV in my opinion. The dialogue, the music, the story, the ambience, the acting, the editing, the cinematography. It was all perfect!!! No mistakes in this series! Bryan Fuller is a genius.
Mads Mikkelsen is soooo good. And yes, I can understand him just fine.
Half of Hannibal's cannibal jokes are basically him having fun with how much he can say and have them still not realise he's a serial killer.
Stamets the serial killer was named after Paul Stamets the mycologist...
I picked that up during a rewatch after finding out that a character in Star Trek was also named after Paul Stamets.
I am not saying I am a serial killer, but I am a cereal killer *menacingly eats rice krispies"
SO excited you're doing this series!!!!! I'll be catching them on release for sure!
One of the greatest shows in TV history
So excited for this reaction, this show is incredible
That was far from embarrassing, you're normal it happens 🙂 Comfort and imperfection is relatable. Some would have stumped me in the ground for that little thing.
that Quantico mess up 🤣
omg. what an amazing series!!!! so glad to follow along with it with you!!!!!!
OMG - FINALLY SOMEBODY IS DOING THE GREATEST MOST BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART EVER PUT ON SCREEN - THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE TOP 3 TV SERIES OFF ALL TIME EVEN THOUGH THEY CUT IT SHORT AFTER A COUPLE SEASONS BECAUSE RATINGS THE DAMN FOOLS - SAVOUR THIS SHOW MY DUDES IT IS A WORK OF PURE GENIUS - NOW LEMME GO WATCH OUR REACTION - I AM SURE IT'S GONNA BE FIRE - RECKON MISS MOVIE GONNA BE BANG INTO THIS - MR MADDS AKA HANNIBAL IS SO SO GOOD ❣❣❣
Okay but no need to shout. Turn of caps jesus
@@Chriswallace0405 fuck off - mind ya bizzness
@@stiofanmac nahh 😂😂
chill, it's not close to the greatest shows of all time, the staging is awful at times, a lot of plot convenience and plot armor
A phenomenal series. Only three seasons, but fantastic.
This show does make me so hungry.
Nice reaction, keep it up 👍
Before I even watch the review, I have to say that I am SOOOOOOO excited you guys are watching this!
2 words "Hell. Yes."
Mads Mikkelsen is the ultimate Hannibal, I'm not even sorry.
