I have a request that I haven’t been able to find. I recently got a pair of jeans that are too long, I want to make them shorter at the knee because it has a beautiful design at the normal bottom of the jeans were you would do the normal hem. So my only option it to cut them at the knee and make them about 2 inches shorter. Can you please do a video of this?? I have searched everywhere and have found nothing on this.
Hi! Sorry I can't do specific video requests. I don't think that is an alteration I've ever seen someone do before, but would be interesting to try (- maybe try on scrap fabric first?). Look up my video for shortening/hemming jeans and keeping the original hem, as that would be a similar concept but obviously at the knee rather than the hem :)
I found one that mentions your problem. Video by J Stern Designs on hemming jeans by hand. I hope this helps. It’s her video from 2018. She actually shows how to do it.
Wouldn't be better to open up the side of the pant leg and do this on the sewing machine? This is a very expensive repair when you count all the time you spent on it.
My husband asked me to reinforce the knees of his work pants with a patch or something. He wants them on the INSIDE of the knee. How can I do this without a special sewing machine?
Hi! You mean a patch on the inside of the jeans? I have a video here: ruclips.net/video/LwaihzXVnlI/видео.html&lc where I put the patch inside the hole/tear. You could do this then sew whatever pattern you like over the front of the jeans. Make sure you sew to cover the entire area where the patch is so that it is connected to the jeans well all over :)
I don't mean to be rude or to criticize you. Why do people not undo the seam of their pants and when done stitch the seam closed? You know to make it a lot easier to mend.
Sewing thin fabric around stress lines never made sense to me. The holes you make with the needle become new weak points that will stretch, break, and open up as the fabric is stretched making it pointless.
Not really holes like a drill, as the needle is navigating through a material full of holes, the real stress is any difference between patch and cloth, using a similar patching cloth is the key. Sail makers still patch sails this way - have to take extraordinary stress

Yeah it depends how much you want your jeans repaired. A sewing machine would be a lot quicker if you often have to repair clothes :)
Good job,but does it go off after washing or it stays?
The stitching will keep the patch securely in place whilst washing :) If you mean the fabric marker, that disappears after washing.
What about putting patches for style on outside of jeans
Absolutely, that's even more fun because you can make the patches any size and shape and don't need to worry about it holding your jeans together!
Very intricate & precise, but that's about four feet of hand sewing - how long might that take?

What kind of pliers are you using to draw the needle through the fabric?
