- Guitar + backing vocals, this time just "Here they come to snuff the rooster" and "Yeah here comes the rooster".
For me it was pretty much unusual to hear him here without Layne Staley. Sounds so differently...
Vocals: 1:55, 3:20 and 4:59.
Unfortunately, due to the particular way I went to exclude lead vocals of Layne Staley (removed center-panned vocals), Jerry Cantrell is panned only left and right, that's why at 1:55 he may sound louder and less natural than in the original recording. In other places that effect is lessened by a louder guitar. Probably you should try to lower down the volume of the whole video, that's it.

I don't have rights for the song and only publish it to show Jerry Cantrell's power of creating songs.
Jerry's tone is so gnarly but clear at the same time. It's heavy and saturated, but you can hear every note and I love that about him.
A lot of bands of this caliber record “wet” and “dry” tracks. You have the base track (dry) that is the guitar “tone”. Then you layer another track on top of that that’s saturated a bit. And combined together you get a solid guitar tone that’s clear and muddy in one.
@@EmazingGuitar Pete Thorn and That Pedal Show have done some great videos on that concept. Isolated guitar tracks of Alex Lifeson's playing reveals the same thing.
Slightly panning the tracks makes the sound really open up as well. Creates a big wide presence
it’s the guitar too. Those G&L rampages and invaders have a very distinct sound. Bright but deep and dark with incredible sustain
The start is on the neck pickup and then he switches to the bridge for the distorted sound then back to the neck .

Intro has a very mesmerizing tone, pure nostalgia...
Respect for emotional rescue living on the inside.The melody and lyrics easily convey the jungle of honoring one's own country and the high cost of dying. Jerry Cantrell understood the perils of the Vietnam war and awakens the rest of mankind lest they forget.
The guitar melodies going with the main chords make it so haunting, like in Would
the simple two chord with a flanger chorus pedal combo make it really good and then with just a little gain on the amp then that distortion pedal boost it and pushes that nice gritty tone makes it perfect for clean and dirty
I had no idea that was the vocal melody he sang. When you put Layne over top it creates something totally different.

I’m captivated by AC. Cantrell has kept true to his creative ability in spite of the difficulties keeping a band together. Amazingly great music,

EHX Electric Mistress Flanger, yep. No Chorus and no Phase 90, also just a tad Delay on the Cleans.
I've been experimenting a bit at home and I'm very close with a flanger and a chorus at the same time for the clean part. In my case it was an EVH flanger in combination with a MXR Analog Chorus over the "clean" channel of a Splawn Quick Rod. For the speakers I used Ownhammer Greenback IRs. I know it's not what Jerry Cantrell used but my guess for the clean sound is a combination of a flanger and a chorus.

There is Jerry Cantrell isolated Man in the Box video (m.ruclips.net/video/CHSk4sjA4yM/видео.html), not 100% accurate because it includes a bit of Staley's backing vocals too, but I just don't eant to double the already ezisting video.

Love the complexities of every. Single. Solo. Without fail, every every riff he writes, and lyric he sings, he delivers something to sit back and thing on. What an honor to live at the same time as him. ❤️🤘
The arrangement and composition of this song is absolutely masterful. I feel like the lyrics are even clumsily matched together if you look at them line by line but when you take the song as a whole it's unbelievably powerful. When I notice things like awkward or seemingly off the wall lyrical choices it actually makes me happy because I see the human imperfection; it's the struggle to communicate things that are felt so deeply and the desperate reach for the right words but the writer comes up short because the reality is too much to fit into a song and all they can do is give a painfully brief glimpse of the true story.

Wow what a bit of a difference doing this song from the real Jerry Cantrell and karaoke and other people playing this for me or whoever you really have to know this song forwards and backwards and in your sleep to keep it in perfect rhythm. Jerry your the best. I grove to your playing thanks 😊

3 years later but there's AI nowadays that can do isolation pretty effectively, people only have the official stems from songs that were in guitar hero and rock band games, the record company give them to the devs

Might be, I hear a lot of chorus and phaser applied to the clean track.
He doesn’t always use all 6 but yes that’s his typical structure - 2 guitars for each. Them bones has all 6 rolling and you can tell

Nope. It’s definitely a Deluxe Electric Mistress Flanger. That’s what nails it. Not even my mxr 117 flanger gets it perfect. My phaser sounds no way like this track. It heavy flanger with chorus and some reverb.

Did Jerry not contribute to the intro vocals on the record? Was it just Layne singing two tracks?
It was Layne Staley falsetto, layered at least twice or thrice. There are few live shows especially after 2005, where Cantrell sings or co-sings the intro, and he sounds different to Staley's or DuWall's manner.
So, on studio, Cantrell only sings the pre-chorus.
What is using for the clean guitar
I have read it was flanger with a little bit of distortion/overdrive.

The chorus tone on the actual song sounds way bigger. Probably because of the bass

Flanger and some overdrive
Friedman JJ Junior amp and G+L Superhawk guitar really help too. Its a straight forward way to get in the ballpark of this tone
@@TimboSlice_ im getting it with a Vox stomplab 2G for the half step down that multi effects VOX goes into my DS-1 boss then i use a EHX small clone into my Line 6 spider IV and use the built in flanger effect and a Jackson JS12 Dinky with stock pickups and WOOO wee do i get pretty darn close to the tone
Digitech RP 360 has a preset called “Rooster”. I bought the thing just for that one preset and it nails it.
