Jeff had same issue with toads using EWG hook until my friend suggested I use a 4/0 straight shank heavy duty worm hook. Threaded on down the center and come out that slit on bottom. More exposed hook, work great open water or along grass pads. Definitely more hookups!
@monzsterman thank you my friend! It's good to know that I've got some people pulling for me. You are one of the guys that gave me some advice early on when I started doing my learning to fish videos. In fact, when I put away that 1st bait after only about 10 minutes, I thought about you and how you told me a while back that you won't stick with a lure very long if it isn't producing. I really appreciate you!!!
Great footage ! Nice catches and congratulations on the limit ! I have that same issue with toads going belly up . Something I use for top water is a weightless senko or fluke, rage craw, or just about any soft plastic on a .05 ewg twitch , twitch , twitch no pauses back to me. Also works sub-surface . Good luck on the next tourney ! Looking forward to watching it,
Thank you House! Yeah, I should have tried something like a fluke. I had some with me but didn't throw it. I'm bad about staying with a particular bait for too long. I took 6 rods but only used 3. I gotta get better about that. I appreciate you watching and commenting sir!
@26Richardny thank you brother! I'm very appreciative of you for watching and commenting. I'm still trying to learn video making, but it's fun and gives me an excuse to get outside more! Thanks again and be safe!
Hey Mr. Jeff that was great! I believe I can see improvement as you journey into tournament fishing and it looks like you are having a good time! I enjoyed the show my friend!
Hey there Bill! Thank you so much, means a lot. I can feel myself getting better and I'm starting to learn how to adapt to the environment. Long way to go, but I'm determined to get there! I appreciate the view and the comments. It's always nice when famous people recognize us little folks 😂 take care friend!
@trc_ok thank you so much! I will admit I was a little shocked when I landed #3. Having never done it before and to have it happen so quickly really made me feel good and for a while I thought "man, I can win this thing" then the luck ran out. I say that to say you are 💯 percent correct, it was at that time that I needed to be more comfortable with some other techniques and that's just gonna take time. I appreciate you watching and commenting! Tight lines!!!
You went all in on the toad. I'm glad it paid off. Congrats on accomplishing the mission. At least you are progressing. I have never had much success with a toad like that. A hook pointed down is no good. I do use a hollow body kicking frog that works fairly well.
Yeah, the toad is quickly becoming my favorite lure! You can put it in just about any cover without worry. I just gotta figure out how to keep it right side up! 😜. I appreciate you watching and commenting!!!
Thank you for the positive viewpoint! I do expect a lot for being pretty new to this, but that's just the competitive fire that burns in my belly. Very grateful I didn't get skunked! That would have been a blow to my confidence for sure. I appreciate you watching! @davidheiser1556
@Eightmile_Drifter thank you my friend! It really was a fun bite but also aggravating. I'm guessing I missed an additional 6 or 7 fish, but I couldn't make myself put it down for long. Thank you for watching and commenting! Always appreciated 👍
@howardb4 I use a loop knot for my walkers and poppers but have not tried that with the toad because it's more of a cast & retrieve bait, but it's worth a shot. I also ordered some hooks with a 1/16 weight to try. Hopefully that's not too heavy to keep the toad on top? I guess I'll find out soon. I read that the zman toad floats, so that is something I want to try too.

Good tip! I have some chewed up toads laying in the bar from my trip, I'll practice rigging them up as you described. Thank you!!!
Nice job! I was watching and was like "YES!!" on every catch😂. Got me all excited😂.

@@yakkittymack 😂😂😂😂😂 you just made my day!
Congrats on getting your first limit. Gotta walk before you can run, It will come once you getting more comfortable fishing the different techniques.

Didn’t have to use the phrase “skunked”, good video& learned new technique

Nice job on getting that early limit. I may have to dig out some of my old toads and give them a go. That bite looks fun.

don't know if you already do this with baits, but if it's a moving bait, I tie a loop knot or use a swivel. It may help that frog from rolling over?
