@@MintHunterComics Having over 30 years in the hobby, I have learned quite a bit from this channel. Keep doing what you do. To quote you from another video “that’s awesome.”
My dad got me a complete collection of old punisher comics and then years later sold it while i wasn’t living at my parents home. He was a drug addict and I’m sure that’s why it disappeared. He passed away recently. He was my dad and I loved him, but that always bummed me out and I’m sure made him feel immense guilt. I’ve been thinking about try to buy the complete set again.
I gave up collecting altogether. My long-term goal is to sell almost all of them and get back as much as I can from what I paid for it (I started collecting in the 70s). Awesome vid, sire!
Great video, great question!! My long term goals, a complete run of Groo The Wanderer. However, I don't pay more than $5 per book. Groo is a popular dollar bin find and since I read them, I don't care about condition.
I love your channel! Been in collecting for about 10 years and every time I watch your videos I learned something new! Keep up the good work. Hope to watch it with my kids someday.
As always, fun video and different content. Nice to know even collectors who end up with it as their jobs still have limits and sacrifices they have to make in their own collecting. For me, a lot of 9.8 collecting has had to take a backseat. The jumps in prices on some just don't make enough sense to forgo 3 books at 9.6 instead.
I've been working on a complete Bowen bust collection for 25 years. Just need 8 to go. And a Starman splash page from the Robinson run.... Already have one from Vol. 2, and a custom Harris splash commission, just really hard to get an original from that Robinson run.
Started collecting DC Comics Batman and Detective Comics and GL beginning of yr. Been selling my Marvels for DC Comics....lol. And I'm a late 80s early 90s kid so since then I always collected Marvel.
My "problem" with collecting X-Men, FF, and Avengers is that I've got #90-to-end-of-run done, and everything left will start getting PRICEY. Can't imagine I'll ever get most of the single digit issues, but I'm not done trying.
I’m currently gunning for the original Aquaman run (mostly because of those beautiful Nick Cardy covers😁). I don’t care too much about condition, so it’s a fun one to do. Already got 11 and 35, so 1 and 29 are the only huge ones left.
The crisis of abundance you have in the US is always amazing to me. The look for the perfect 9.8s and stuff like that is so alien to me because of where I live that this videos are always a lot of fun to watch.
I'm sort of in the same boat but I live in the US. Living in Hawaiian islands, I'm so far removed from the rest of the country. There's only 1 comic shop on my entire island and his shop isn't doing too great. He doesn't sell a lot of comics unless they're new because he doesn't normally buy for collectors. I might have to start buying online to ship older comics but usually the shipping damages them if they're not in a case. I enjoy watching this channel but serious collecting is always going to be foreign to me
I remember trying to get a set of the Warren magazine, 1984. I would have counted it complete if I got issues 1-10. (With issue 11, the title was changed to 1994.) It was back in the '80s when I attempted to complete this set, and I could not find a # 5. I had all the others. I looked for a # 5 at various comic shows and in the Comic Buyers Guide. There was no internet then, and so no eBay. Finally I gave up, and sold my copies of 1-4, and 6-10. After that, I kept finding copy after copy of #5.
Thanks for the video. I have a very low grade Hulk 181 (my original copy from 1974). Lately I’ve been thinking about trying to get a nice copy? Not sure why?
I've got full runs of Wolverine Vol 1 and 2, West Coast Avengers, The Thing Solo Series, Micronauts and Battlestar Galactica in my PC. I am also a HUGE James O'Barr Crow fan and am also joining you in the hunt!
I’m currently working on the full run of Wolverine, I only need four more issues for the first 100 lots more to go with the second part. I am also working on the West Coast Avengers volume one. And Battlestar Galactica. I mainly collect bronze age raw comics. My favorite is Ghost Rider 😎
Thanks for sharing your trials. Coincidentally, I do have a couple that are on your same list but not actively seeking any longer and just keeping an eye out. Another great video! 😊
As a comic book reader who started around Contagion/Legacy, and then went back to Knightfall, I salute your efforts to get all those individual books in 9.8! I love that era of Batman. And some Kelley Jones original art would be one of the first things I'd buy if I ever won the lottery :)
I have a goal of collecting the Todd McFarlane run of ASM newsies in 9.6 or better with white pages. I know, very specific but I grew up with these books and love them! I’m about half way there.
I often find that I also hunt for something sometimes for years, and then I finally get it and then a week later I'm like.... meh. Why are we like this!? The hunter/gatherer gene be strong.
Im halfway done collecting the original Static Shock series....I already got all the big books #1, #2, #33, #44, & #45 all for $3 each. I have 27 books out of 45 & the first 15 books in order....had to pause because i dont want to buy anything online, i love the joy of book hunting in the shops💯
I agree with you on the Daredevil. It's been a good read for years. I have a DD #1, but the tape on the plastic bag grabbed it as I ok it out of the bag and ripped the front cover. It's one of those moments I view with profound regret.
I myself had a hot toy addiction at one point lol they look so awesome but in the end i just sold them. There were too many i wanted and it was never ending. One of my stretch goals is to have an original art piece of Alex Ross. Specifically a page from Kingdom Come
As you know James the Incredible Hulk is my favorite character and my main goal is to own the original 6 issues, which you know, like Incredible Hulk #181 are the most expensive Hulk books. I'm blessed to have #3,5, & 6. I'm currently making payments on a #4, but after that comes #1 and #2 which might be unattainable for me, but I used to say about the others too.
you make me feel like its okay to be okay not wanting to collect all the #1s of the big books everyone goes after. they are just to obtainable. but im always happy collecting anything else i can afford or anything i really want... mostly late 80s into the 90s. thats my jam and im happy with it
For me its the early X-men, Uncanny X-men, I really want them and love them, but I can't afford them all. There are a couple I will still get oneday but as a whole run I just dont have that cash unfortunately.
I’m hunting for JLA 3. The Superman test cover I fell in love with this upper left corner where the DC logo is placed. Man this test cover I want bad! As always keep on hunting!
What a great topic. Kudos on really creating content on aspects and angles we all think about when collecting comics, but no one really discusses. Great great topic.
@@MintHunterComics I would love to hear more books you gave up on. Or books that you finally achieved, but after attaining them, the glitz and glam of the book faded and you ultimately sold them! Anyway, just suggestions, but you don't need them for me. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers - Doug
Like you I was shooting to get FF 1-10 in 5.5 or high. Mostly because I lucked upon a copy of 5 about 20 years ago that I later got graded at 5.5. I wanted continuity…I got mostly complete but a #1 at that grade seems unrealistic. I feel you on the art too.
Stretch goal #1 is Strangers in Paradise #1 Limited Series 9.8 (All black cover crazy to find in 9.8) & Strange Academy #1 Peach Momoko (non autographed) 9.8. Sooo many are Signature series!!
Given up on Action Comics 242. Got crazy expensive before I could put hands on a copy I liked. Stretch goal: Green Lantern 7. (Yes, I like first appearances of villains.)
I’m not sure I’ve given completely up on any of the goals. I’ve had to modify the hell out of some. I really want to complete my Phantom Lady 13-23 & Hulk 1-6 runs. Kinda close on both. But boy, it can get expensive…quickly.
Oh, I've given up on LOTS of comic goals. My current goal is to take all the crap comics I have and turn them into decent keys. Its working but its very slow. Got a Flash 105, a Hawkman 4, and an Action 252 in the last 8 months or so. Lower grade but better than what I had! Love the videos!
I’m a copper to modern collector. So here’s a few things I’ve given up on getting mostly because of price. -Spider-man 1 platinum in a 9.8 (I think this is like $3k now!) -Venom 1 gold 3x by Stan Lee, Todd, and Bagley (saw this for 3-5k) -Thanos 13 in a 9.8 (Albuquerque variant). Love this cover but it’s over 1K usually -punisher 2 (2014) Opena 1:50 in a 9.8. Wanted to find and submit my own copy, but too hard to find and the 9.8 is like $1000
Let me think, what's on my list: Original art pages: Too pricey. I have gotten a couple nice prints and that may be the way to go for me. Action figures: too pricey and a lack of shelf space. Plus, when you hit middle age, they want you to stop playing with them and just display them. Boring...! I would love a 9.8 first series crow 1,2,3 and 4. Also I'm working on completing the original run of niel gaimans sandman, after that I'll move onto the original run of hellblazer and hopefully after that a malibu sun 13 error printing on back in a 9.8.
I've been trying to get as much of ASM as I could. I've realized that getting a single digit book is impossible for me and there are quite a few double digit ones that I wouldn't be able to afford. But the triple digit ones I've been thinking I could get. Obviously I'm stuck on 101 and 129 (My personal holy grail) and trying to see if I can get them before the 1,000th book comes out (so I've got a little bit of time), but it's tough to get them. I gave up on Spawn after 201 and have let that go unless I see a great Greg Capullo cover. I've given up on Wolverine and Deadpool (Even though I own both of their first appearances) and gave up on X-Men, too. Sold off all my X-Men books (not nearly as impressive as some of my other runs I was working with, but still sold them all).
I had to give up retro game collecting/playing video games because of a permanent thumb pain condition I developed 😔 I've replaced it with comic collecting, but it will never ever be the same and never truly replace it.
I got my ASM 1 in a 5.5, and that left only Amazing Fantasy 15 in similar grade. Given the price of that, it's pretty much impossible I'll ever check that one off the list.
i wanted to get a small Swamp Thing collection but gave up on it because i got into other characters and i am now trying to get a full collection of star wars the original series and low grade ASM
Still have my Green Lantern volume 4 goal of all 9.8. At least 60% there. Almost have full set of GL v2. Probably look to upgrade that collection over time. There are too many other series that I'd like to complete, but have to take one at a time
I had a few grails that I thought I'd never get. The first one was from my childhood it was G.I. Joe Vol 1 #43 even working at Midtown Comics warehouse I couldn't find it but back at NYCC 2022 I got one Raw and had it graded sure it's a low grade but I got it to have it. And the second is Batman Vol 3 #23 (Swamp Thing trolls Batman) I picked this up at a random comic shop my friends and I were at.
Stretch goal is a full run of Archie sonic. I don’t care about the condition, as long as the books aren’t coverless or incomplete. I’m fairly young so I think it’s something I could eventually achieve
My goal was a full run of TMNT vol 1 all first prints. Started 15 years ago, had it all except #1 within the first year or two. Picked up a 2nd print for at the time a "place holder", paid about $65 Canadian, recently pressed , cleaned and graded at 9.2 CGC...first print is waaaaaay out of reach now. New goal VG Daredevil 1.
I’m glad to see a channel that just talks about the hobby and doesn’t get into all drama that goes on between the other comic channels.

I’ve had to give up on my Venom and Spider-Man collections to keep my Wolverine collection growing. Three powerhouse characters was way too much!

-Spider-man 1 platinum in a 9.8 (I think this is like $3k now!)
-Venom 1 gold 3x by Stan Lee, Todd, and Bagley (saw this for 3-5k)
-Thanos 13 in a 9.8 (Albuquerque variant). Love this cover but it’s over 1K usually
-punisher 2 (2014) Opena 1:50 in a 9.8. Wanted to find and submit my own copy, but too hard to find and the 9.8 is like $1000
Great subject - makes you think for sure.
Let me think, what's on my list:
Original art pages: Too pricey. I have gotten a couple nice prints and that may be the way to go for me.
Action figures: too pricey and a lack of shelf space. Plus, when you hit middle age, they want you to stop playing with them and just display them.
Boring...!
Golden Age B-lister titles: Given up Hope Hourman, Tomahawk or the Red Bee will even get their stories collected. Would be nice to have one GA issue in my collection, but it's probably a dream.
Avengers #1: One of my favorite team line ups ever. I'd settle for a readable copy, but not getting my hopes up.
Love the nod to Green Lantern.
Love your videos man, keep it up ,they make my day!

Great video, always looking for those comics.
You and me both!
Stretch goal is a full run of Archie sonic. I don’t care about the condition, as long as the books aren’t coverless or incomplete. I’m fairly young so I think it’s something I could eventually achieve
Great video!
Another great video.
