The CAD M179--one of my favorite mics! I've owned 4 of them for many years, and I'm glad to see they are still around. They're a favorite mic for toms and floor toms for many studio engineers. They also work great for drum overheads, especially in Omni mode. They handle transients very well--so well that the waveforms almost looked compressed compared to the small-diaphragm condenser mics I had been using before. They also sound great on acoustic guitars. Just a really neutral mic that accurately reproduces whatever you put in front of it.
im pretty sure that noise may be coming from your preamp. on every other review of this microphone ive seen, i could barely hear any noise, if at all. maybe its processing, or a fethead/cloudlifter, but i dont know.
Yeah, I think it's the preamp or the mic is defective. I ordered a pair of M179s and mine aren't that noisy and mine sound really good. I'm gonna be testing them against my AT4050, I wouldn't be surprised if the M179s sound just as good.
It's popular with drummers. I have two M179's, since I got them for super cheap, and use them to do dual-mic setups with my piano. The adjustable polar patterns lets me fine tune the balance of the stereo setup. I do not use them for dialogue as the plosives are too much for me.
Thanks for the honest review. Can you compare this with Neat King Bee? Price wise this is more expensive, but is it worth $150 while the other is $99. Maybe you can start recording verse series?
You're not really *Shure* it's a solid microphone? That noise floor was really high. It's a ne'er do well *CAD.* It made you *BLUE.* It's about as compressed as an *MXL* file.
Orange. Like, it would be fine for $50 (and I don't think it's the best I've heard at that price either) but for $150 you can get way better I think. Maybe if you need a mic with all those switches? You still might be able to get three different, better $50 mics with different pickup patterns tho.
You're getting noise from from somewhere. I own two of these mics and they're probably the most versatile sub 500 dollar condenser that you'll find. They work in virtually any situation. And honestly have a cult following. I'm not sure where that noise is coming from but it's not typical for that microphone

No disagreements here. I've grown to appreciate this one a lot. Thanks for watching!

That makes a ton of sense. Thanks for sharing.
kurious though wy you wouldn't just tack a strip of foam to your upper lip - I mean down the front of the mic like a strip - c ?
These mics have grounding issues. You may need to open it up to make sure it’s making contact with both sides.
I have another one now...and YES THEY DO
Need a bass rolloff. But the look and the multi-polar rock my baby.
I bought one new for about $80 in 2015 and I’m just amazed at how much the price has gone up!
Literally doubled

Only issue with vs. series.....is I sell every mic I get that I don't love. The king bee demolishes this thing
Over/Under on Cleveland/49ers tomorrow.
Mic seems to need EQ. Didn’t sound “rich” or full.
Agree 100% Browns by 6

Lol interesting
Try the KAM c3 next, ebay 90 bucks
Looks interesting. Next is not an option but in the future is! Too many ahead of it currently
Harsh top end, a little distorted sound.
Yeah I did not care for it

That is one ugly mic that black line around the body makes it look cheap
