In the same boat. I feel like its on an upward trajectory and i really hope this season is the same. I think i enjoyed s2 a bit more than you seemed to overall but i agree the finale was a bit ehh. With you on the more episodes. It was always a problem from the day it was announced regardless of potential writing mistteps. This world and story needs to breath and have space for the downtime that we get and while they've tried to add aome downtime in s2 it still feels rushed and like they're cramming stuff in but its still not enough.
i have not read the books yet, -so my biggest grasps of the first two seasons:1) the wrap up of the season finale one and two 2) the melodrama with lan and moraine in season
Dan Wells made a comment on Intentionally Blank in the lead up to Rings of Power that he decided to go onto the show as 'fanfiction in a world I love' instead of even an attempt at canon. I have found that mindset seriously helpful for all the "adaptations" recently. That was you can enjoy it or not, but it takes a lot of the pressure off when changes are made.
I found this helpful actually for S2 of WOT.. Rings of power I just CANNOT. It is horribly done in almost every regard, whereas WoT seems to have some good acting, good wardrobes, and good worldbuilding (despite too much garish color aometimes). The main issue with WoT is just the writing which is the heart of a story but can also be balanced out by other things. RoP is just bad bad bad. plus I feel more attached to the world than WOT. But with WOT I watched maybe 2-3 episodes of season one, then readjusted my expectations and I have to admit I actually enjoyed S2, and watched maybe half the episodes and skimmed the other half
See, I understand why people do this but I simply can't approach adaptation like that. My belief is that when you are playing with someone else's work, you are obligated to tell the original as faithfully as possible in the new medium. It's why I noped out of this show early into season 2

I’m so glad you did this deep dive on the trailer Daniel! I always appreciate your opinion. I’m always skeptical of folks who dislike on the TV show just to hate on it. Your points about the POV of the first season and the first book makes a lot of sense to me, and I understand how the change can be disappointing to a book fan. I think I’m just so grateful someone is trying to make an epic tv show from my favorite book series that I’ve forgiven a lot of faults. I can only come at it as someone who knows the books really well, like you. We will never experience it with new eyes like non-book readers. Our expectations 100% impact our judgement of the TV show. So It’s always nice to hear what you think! Keep up the wheel of time content please!! 😊 Season 3 is based on my favorite book, with some of my favorite plot lines. I’m so excited to see Rands journey through the crystal columns!!
As someone who got too late on the fantasy train, I didn't read the books, but thought I'd give the show a shot. Season 1 got me thinking it was mid Season 2 made me think it is good Season 3 trailers got me hoping it will be great
Well done Daniel. Many years ago I joined this channel because of your love for the series. I am trying, but I am still upset with decisions in season one and thus still can't finish it. I think I need to see that season 3 and onward are going to course correct.
I get moving mat. It makes sense. Thom and mat racing to save elayne. But that means you either need to move a red stone door, and a mat bargain scene and the ashendari receipt. You have to.
You're assuming the door happens at all. Me, I'm 80% sure that doesn't happen. It's too much - too "weird" - to introduce for show-only viewers, especially when in the grand scheme of the books it plays such a TINY part.
@@danrobbins2359 I hope the red stone is in Tanchico. The museum of curiosities is a great place to put it. What'll be interesting is, if it is included and Mat does go in, where he comes out.
@@mjbinon yeah, it is very weird though honestly I think leaning in to the fantastical elements will set it apart from a lot of the other shows out there that are pretty typical. It'd be a shame but with the 8 episode limit it's more than likely it's cut

3:11 - But there is also only so much that can be done with so few episodes. I still genuinely believe that if the WoT tv series had a couple more episodes every season, that would really help a lot with how much time we got to spend focusing on the epic-ness and world/character moments and such. Interview With The Vampire is a tv show that is managing to do pretty phenomenally with only 7 to 8 eps per season, and I still find myself sometimes wishing it was doing even more[ with characters and world/lore/etc], even though there is pretty much zero feasible way that it could be without either more episodes or like 1½hr long eps. The LotR films are an exception, not the rule, and let's remember how dang long those Director's Cut versions are!!! Lol Buuut I dunno, maybe that's just me.😊🤷🤷♀️🤷🏻♂️😅 😁
If they sacrifice Mat's trip to Rhuidean for him to do the Tar Valon stuff that they shoulda done in S2, that'll be really maddening. The Tar Valon stuff is massive for his character and some of my favorite Mat scenes but so is freaking Rhuidean lol.
24:53 The Finnish translations of _The Wheel of Time_ volumes were in fact all split into two or three, which means there are 25 volumes---but each of them alone is as thick as one volume in English (it's a lengthy language), and that does not include the last three, because the Finnish publisher estimated that no one wants to read Sanderson.
@@Alkemisti they split up the German translation as well. I learned English back then by reading and re-reading the books, because the translated versions didn't get published as fast.
As someone who has only half-a* listened to the first audiobook of the series 20ish years ago… I’ve loved almost everything done in the show except for some of the horn story in season 2 and especially that finale. I practically cried when I saw them use magic in season 1. I’ve adored the costumes. Hair and make up needs help SOOO badly. But the cinematography, casting and dialogue has been good imo. I hope the big fans of the books can enjoy it as much as I have and keep the series going.
So, it looks like they're basically just skipping book 3/Tear? I can understand why, just makes me sad if so as book 3 was one of my favs :(. Regardless, the trailer has me feeling a glimmer of hope...
One big thing for me is Mat’s hanging and getting the ashandarei and the foxhead medalion. I guess it would make sense to have that happen in the White Tower, but I’m worried they cut the Finn and I’d really prefer to see that weirdness preserved, regardless of whether it distracts from everything else going on.
Non-book fans mostly reacted quite positively to S2 finale i feel. It's the highest rated episode from both seasons. But yeah, i agree that book fans didn't like it that much
On the topic of Perrin's "wife" I do think part of why they did it was to make Faile's personality with regards to her jealousy/possessiveness be more on the surface understandable, which isn't a terrible thing though not something I think we needed.
Im just hopeful tjat we can see Dumai Wells faithfully shown on TV. Thats basically what got me all in on the book series. One od the nest chapters in Fantasy.
The COSTUMES, literally the best part of the show thus far. The first season hooked me when I saw the bells in Alanna's hair, since she's from Arafell. I will continue watching this show even if it becomes literally stupid plot-wise, because I KNOW the costume designers did their homework. What can I say, I'm a clothes lad hahaha
They look great. But, I don't understand why they took a work of Robert Jordan, who loved to describe in detail every button, and then made up something completely new. Like, I am missing the shawls and the divided skirts and all this stuff that was so distinctive in the books.
@@leza4453 on that I totally agree, the shawls are such an important symbol, it's wacky to get rid of them. The rest I can chalk up to creative choice, But the shawls are too important
The books are just too close to my heart for the entire thing not to be a trainwreck. I got angrier and angrier during S1 and after the 1st episode of S2, I noped hard. I've followed a couple of creators who reviewed all the S2 episodes, and I was happy I stopped. The saddest thing of all, is that the terrible people who made that pilot years ago, airing it at two in the morning, just to keep the rights, was more faithful to the books. It's messed up.
I am one of those that really enjoyed The Winter Dragon, and really enjoyed Seda's work. We are a very rare group of people that see it that way. As for the show? I enjoy it. I also appreciate that they acknowledged Seda at one point, and wish he was alive to work in this show.
@@shauntempley9757, I remember actually seeing it when it aired. I think I'd come home from the bar and just flipped on the TV and saw, "Winter Dragon" and thought, sure. A third of the way thru it I was like, "Are they ripping of Robert Jordan?" That became, "Is this actually The Wheel of Time?"
I’m sad you are not seeing the books you read. I am seeing the books I read. They have to make a lot of changes to get all those books into 8 seasons. and I love 90% of it!
@@davidwilson6577 Because you are not reading books. You are watching a show. A show with a very tough story, and really tough changes needed. Particularly with characters like Perrin that if done as he is in the books, would kill the show, as other similar characters have done in other shows before. Then there is Rand. If his arc is done exactly as the books did it, then it would be accused of ripping off Anakin Skywalker's story. As I remember certain Star Wars fans doing when the books were published. If this show is seen as a failure, then there will be no future chance of it returning. It will be seen as a dead IP. Battlestar Galactica is one of the exceptions to this, because it had a key actor championing for it through his life, in the form of Apollo's Richard Hatch. Even then, it took 30 years to get it back on screens. Wheel Of Time post a cancellation? You could be looking at 50 years, just to get it looked into, then another 20 to get it back into production.
I am SO glad they didn’t try to make Rand train with Lan S2 just to look ridiculous being a master in 8 short episodes to beat a Seanchan master. No one would have bought that. They can’t skip months JUST for that.
It’s The Bangles cover of “Hazy Shade of Winter” written by S & G. It has no place in this trailer, symbolic of what is off with the show, but it’s a great cover!
So I have spent a reasonable amount of time training in sword since I saw the last season and that roll cut that Lan does in the middle of this is really good. That is a guy who has been handling a sword. Or at least he is mimicking a guy who has been handling a sword really well which is actually his job.
Season 4 is reportedly going to be greenlit only if Season 3 is a success. Will the Last Battle be over before it has started? Only "Time Time Time" will tell.
I finished the first three books of Wheel of Time and I am not feeling it. It is okay, but I am not blown away. I really want to like it, but I don’t see why it gets so much love. Is it worth continuing, or is this just not the books series for me?
Most likely, it's visually a way many shows and movies get around this as in books we know it's the "mind" that goes back to different bodies but visually that's not so easy to instill. Often times it's even more of a "this isn't how he looks to everyone else, but for our sake so we can tell, it's all him" situation. It honestly makes sense as a visual way to get the point across as there's not really any narrative explanation of what's happening until after and it would confuse new viewers way too much if Rand just walked through pillars looking pained and we kept getting flash backs of random people we have no connection to.
@@undertone8367 I figure its an easy way for the TV show to relate Rand with Lews and being purposefully vague to try not to spoil others in the comments here :D
@@melaniev9446 indeed! I think these shots will be the TV show kind of introducing Lews in a proper sense. I mean in the books it's the very first character you're introduced to in the prologue i think... my memory isn't the best lmao
Stopped taking notes on Knife of Dreams in August last year to read and take notes on the Imperial Radch trilogy, second readthrough of Wheel of Time. We just need to accept that the show is a new turning of the wheel. Perhaps eight or ten episodes aren't enough to fully flesh out the story of the books, this is a new story though and if Aviendha happens to be the new Gaul, one of the best characters from the books, then we should accept it. Also, I can't wait to get me some Talmanes.
The show definitely feels like it's going on an upward trajectory after s2, though I think it's always going to be marred by a lot of missteps and production issues from s1. Ultimately, I have hope, especially because of the performances from the cast and the genuinely great moments we've seen.
Yeah, me too. After they labelled the little fat man angreal a sa'angreal in the first season for no reason, I don't believe they will handle the lore around that well
Moiraine is a main character in the show I don't think she's going to be absent for the amount of time she was in the books so they need to give her a storyline and it's probably coming from Nynaeve
I have read the books up until Lord of Chaos. I come back to the show similar to how you do, I get disappointed when the previous season wraps (hate on it and its dissatisfying take compared to the books for a bit). But then, I see the new trailer and get hyped because being in this world is just a great time. I need to read more of those books. I binged all of One Piece, I have no excuse for it being a long series haha. Fun reaction
I mean Mat wasn't really important during the waste but the beggining of that is really important to his character to the point that there he gets some things that literally represent him as a character.
5:51 - This could be a reimagining of the council chamber in Far Madding. I don't know why that would show up here, now, but maybe it's a flashback. I'm probably reading too much into it, but the poses of those statues just seem to be saying something in a very overt visual language, and that made me think of the thing there (intentionally vague).
I dropped season 2 at the beginning because it didn't really click for me, now seeing that Mat isn't in the Waste in season 3 I'm wondering if they are going to scrap/they scrapped a certain pair of twisted doorframes, which will be a bit sad if they did since it's one of the Mat defining moments on the books imo.
The scene in the ways where you said it lanfear and the forsaken, it actually looks like Lanfear and evil versions of the gang. It looks like Rand, Egwene, Nynaeve, Perrin and I think Mat and Elayne.
I just don’t see how they can do the tree scene without Matt. I want him to go through the stuff at the tower too but he has GOT to be at that tree. They also need the scene with him fighting and in Tyr too so I dunno there is a lot of course correction that needs to happen.
This show is NOT anything even remotely close to the books. They just took the characters names and a few plot points and scrapped the rest. Yes I’ll still be hate watching
I really wanted the tv series to be how I imagined the books. But unfortunately the differences are huge. I no longer recommend the tv series as it's a poor representation of the books. It is still a decent show in itself, it is just not the same for me .
Also reading memory of light right now for the first time and I’m so excited to finish this series! I won’t watch the show though because it goes against the images the books conjure in my mind, especially for moiraine. I prefer the art on the paperback versions of the books, i think they did a good job capturing the feel of the books. The hardcovers however…
My non book reader friends are actually very exited for S3, they love the show. It´s just, as a book fan, it´s impossible to not miss on Rand having actual protagonism. Every good moment he had on the books was given to someone else, he just feels like a fraud, Egwene seems way more powerful than him and Moraine too
Rand IS 20 in the books. The show could have made the EF5 a little more worldly sheltered, but the only characters actually aged up are Elayne and Egwene by a couple of years.
I agree with other posters and Daniel that you need more episodes. Streaming shows have gotten into this 6 or 8 episode thing where normal television series run three times that. (Used to be 30 episodes)
Did you mean to say "spoiler warning for book 4 of the wheel of time?" At 4:45 Cause, I mean spoilers for season 3 is kinda self-explanatory with a trailer lol
I hear Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading every day as I listen to the series on a loop. I tried telling myself it a different turning of the wheel...still didn't help. I can't get through season 1
The whole series hasn't gone below a 7 for me, I don't care what anybody says, because they actually showed us Logain being a Badass instead of sulking around a tower.
I wasn’t going to do it, then my dad said, “don’t you have bills to pay?” And yeah… he right.

I hope we get the Matt scene and hopefully he gets his weapon, fox amulet and hat
I really like the series. I’ve read the first two books and it’s one of my favourite shows. To me it feels like people expect every show to be 10/10. That just isn’t how things work. I like the cast, like most of the decisions and one of my favourite book series is on tv…so I’m happy :)
Can Amazon adapt a single fantasy/sci-fi show correctly?
Yes, and Wheel Of Time started that. It hinted at future turnings.
This could easily be a sequel to those events.
See, I understand why people do this but I simply can't approach adaptation like that. My belief is that when you are playing with someone else's work, you are obligated to tell the original as faithfully as possible in the new medium. It's why I noped out of this show early into season 2
That's just copium
@@Moridin69 no, it's not. People want different things from adaptations. I don't like this one either, but someone actually enjoying something isn't copium.
I read all the wheel of time bcz of your enthusiasm and love you for that. I enjoyed these kind of videos that you talk about your beliefs and you argue much more.
is anyone still watching this? damn near stopped after the 1st couple episodes but i finished season 1 and have been trying to forget what i saw ever since
Of course, it's on its third season
I've been kinda hate watching it. Gives me something to rant about to my family that has no idea what I'm talking about.
More 👏🏻 episodes 👏🏻 per 👏🏻 season 👏🏻
Considering how many episodes per season we're getting, they are doing a good job!
Only If They Stick To The Books!!! I'm not adding claps, you can imagine they are there..
Halfway thru the great hunt. Been watching ur vids since I was 13 I’m 17 now. Thanks for introducing me to adult fantasy & good stories. Crazy seeing all the change on the channel throughout the years. Content been fire
I am glad you did this. It was fun.
Maybe we will get Elayne’s accepted test? (Because of the crown?)
As someone who got too late on the fantasy train, I didn't read the books, but thought I'd give the show a shot.
Season 1 got me thinking it was mid
Season 2 made me think it is good
Season 3 trailers got me hoping it will be great
Well done Daniel.
I will be completely floored if we get the redstone doors and the Finn.
@@mjbinon I'd argue that if we're not going to do all of the flavor, what are we even doing here? But yeah, given most of the rest of the show, I'm pretty sure you're right
3:11 - But there is also only so much that can be done with so few episodes. Lol Buuut I dunno, maybe that's just me.😊🤷🤷♀️🤷🏻♂️😅 😁
I know this is non-related to WOT S3, but what fantasy series would you say is the most similar to Berserk?
Shadow Emond's Fielders is SUCH a vibe. GODS I love the costume design of this show. It is soooo gooooooooood.
Damn it now im going to have to do my yearly re-read of Wheel of Time.
I know I don't have the time right now for a reread, but I'm very close to disregard that
Do that and skip the show!
Awesome to see Daniel nerding out in an even extra enthusiastic way
If they sacrifice Mat's trip to Rhuidean for him to do the Tar Valon stuff that they shoulda done in S2, that'll be really maddening.
Idc what anyone says I'm so looking foward to this one
I wonder if Elayne putting the tiara on is her going thru her Accepted testing?
Happy new year!! Wish u luck for this year!!! 🎉🎉😊
Non-book fans mostly reacted quite positively to S2 finale i feel. It's the highest rated episode from both seasons. But yeah, i agree that book fans didn't like it that much
😂 the best was Elayne hobbling up all the stairs of the tower with an arrow in her hip...
@@leza4453I really try not think of that arrow scene but Episode 8 of Season 2 was great, I enjoyed it. I am still reading the bks though.
On the topic of Perrin's "wife" I do think part of why they did it was to make Faile's personality with regards to her jealousy/possessiveness be more on the surface understandable, which isn't a terrible thing though not something I think we needed.
Thanx for this.
Haven't watched either season yet, but have read & listened to the series several times.
Hope the show turns out to be decent
Im just hopeful tjat we can see Dumai Wells faithfully shown on TV. Thats basically what got me all in on the book series. One od the nest chapters in Fantasy.
The COSTUMES, literally the best part of the show thus far. The first season hooked me when I saw the bells in Alanna's hair, since she's from Arafell. I will continue watching this show even if it becomes literally stupid plot-wise, because I KNOW the costume designers did their homework.
What can I say, I'm a clothes lad hahaha
The clothes are so distracting to me in the first 2 seasons, not a bit of wear on any of them.
You are not seeing the books you read. Read them again.
They can’t skip months JUST for that.
bruh, the 19:25 'dew it!' made me think i got a message. that's exactly my notification sound..
There's a episode called Golden Eyes, this whole season can be hogwash but Perrin so far has been my favorite character. I need them to do this right
It’s The Bangles cover of “Hazy Shade of Winter” written by S & G.
Yes, it will fail
I finished the first three books of Wheel of Time and I am not feeling it. It is okay, but I am not blown away. I really want to like it, but I don’t see why it gets so much love.
Is it worth continuing, or is this just not the books series for me?
Yes, it is just getting started! Try one or two more, you will be sucked in.
I think spoiler?
For Matt they could use the arches (3 questions) as a gateway to have him meet rand in the waste.
that could sorta work lore-wise
Could Rand looking really different be a flashback of sorts to a previous age of the wheel?
Then he wouldn't look like rand, just like how Rand doesn't look like Lews Therin. Rand isn't reincarnated as Rand every age or turning.
I mean in the books it's the very first character you're introduced to in the prologue i think... my memory isn't the best lmao
the glasses reflecting the screen and covering your eyes looks cool lol
I think the Moraine-Lanfear death visions might be from her trip to Rhuidean. As you say - she wouldn't survive that treatment from Lanfear in T'A'R
I'm worried that orb is really a statue orb and I don't think Moiraine should have it.
My money is on Age of Legends flashback
I dropped season 2 at the beginning because it didn't really click for me, now seeing that Mat isn't in the Waste in season 3 I'm wondering if they are going to scrap/they scrapped a certain pair of twisted doorframes, which will be a bit sad if they did since it's one of the Mat defining moments on the books imo.
I don't think we're getting Rands visions of the Aiel history. I think we're getting Moiraines visions of possible futures.
I’m hyped I enjoyed both seasons it’s what got me reading the books.
I lol'd at the donut joke.
Alcair Dal and the ending of The Shadow Rising is one of my favorite scenes in the books.
Also. That crowm scene. Isnt that something that happens in TAR? Egwene catches Elayne trying on outfits?
I really wanted the tv series to be how I imagined the books. But unfortunately the differences are huge. I no longer recommend the tv series as it's a poor representation of the books. It is still a decent show in itself, it is just not the same for me .
This season is probably going to be the closest to the books we've had yet if that helps 😅
@@HQofrandomI really doubt that.
So season 3 covers Shadow Rising and Fires of Heaven?
Also reading memory of light right now for the first time and I’m so excited to finish this series! I won’t watch the show though because it goes against the images the books conjure in my mind, especially for moiraine. I prefer the art on the paperback versions of the books, i think they did a good job capturing the feel of the books. The hardcovers however…
Ultimately, they need more episodes. I am not optimistic we'll ever get it.
Man I hope it just gets better 😅
"Do not trust in hope. It has forsaken these lands."
It won't...
My non book reader friends are actually very exited for S3, they love the show. It´s just, as a book fan, it´s impossible to not miss on Rand having actual protagonism. Every good moment he had on the books was given to someone else, he just feels like a fraud, Egwene seems way more powerful than him and Moraine too
So are they just skipping book 3 ?
I am finishing up the Cosmere, but Wheel of Time or 2nd era faithful and the fallen are up next
I just couldn’t bring myself to watch season 2. Maybe I’ll dive back in if this does well.
You looking at the rocks killed me
Reflection of light on your glasses makes you look so anime
Isn't Matt supposed to be with Rand in the wastes?
Did you mean to say "spoiler warning for book 4 of the wheel of time?" At 4:45 Cause, I mean spoilers for season 3 is kinda self-explanatory with a trailer lol
Yes lol
Solid God-Emperor sound effects
I hear Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading every day as I listen to the series on a loop.
I tried telling myself it a different turning of the wheel...still didn't help. I can't get through season 1
The whole series hasn't gone below a 7 for me, I don't care what anybody says, because they actually showed us Logain being a Badass instead of sulking around a tower.
The hair is probably from one of the visions. That would mean that what he's wearing would be AOL cadin'sor.
I started watching this after just waking up, and was so confused as to why your eyes were glowing
I think Elayne putting a crown on is Morgases dream
