    You can tell by smoothly he handles his tools and how he worked the shoe on the anvil - and how he pre-fit the shoe - this man is a true craftsman! Well done sir!

    For those who are wondering, the horse does not get hurt. It is like you are wearing shoes, and the restoration is happening beneath the shoes. You feel it, but will not get hurt. Same thing happens with the horse. Hope it helps.. 👍

      The hoof is like a giant, thick nail, the horse does not feel pain on the hoof anymore than we feel pain when we trim a nail, basically.

    • @FITZIEBLUE

      @@ManoredRed unless you cut to close and dig too deep. That is why a good farrier is worth his weight in gold. Healthy horses can be kept in shape by responsible owners. But once a problem arises, the horse needs an expert. If you had an ingrown toenail you'd go to a professional, they keep the discomfort to a minimum because they know the hoof anatomy.

      To a horse this is just like a mani/pedicure or a haircut. You don’t feel pain when you’re at the barber or when you’re clipping your toenails. But if you nip your scalp with the blades or cut your nails too short, shit’s gonna hurt. It’s all about taking care.

    Nice job; given the broken & missing lateral wall, and the nails still in the hoof, guessing he pulled a shoe off and that's why the lateral chunk is missing. But there's also a surface quarter crack coming there - the missing chunk creates its own floated relief, but what are your plans for dealing with that crack over time? (With no narration, One is left to ponder, lol.) Happy New Year. Keep making these vids - Nice to come hold with an aching back and throbbing arthritic knees, and rasp-scraped knuckles, and sit back with a cold one and watch someone else working!

      I don’t have horses myself so I can’t quite tell if it’s normal for them to stay calm. It shouldn’t hurt them tho. Their hooves are made from the same material as our fingernails are so it is as painless for them as clipping your nails. And should be done regularly as well so I assume they probably get used to it over time.

      I’m a farrier here in Montana so I can tell you haha. The good clients that have taken the time to train there horse for the farrier are the ones that stand good. There are a lot of horses that either require sedation from the vets just so you can trim there feet without getting kicked or seriously hurt. I broke my wrist working on a dangerous horse last summer so I just say no or have them sedated. It’s probably a 50-50 of good standing horses and difficult ones but knowing how to work around them is key.

    Horses hoofs are NOT METAL. Why would you put slippery METAL under foot? Get some new hard plastics or rubbery hoofs and watch him run , like with Asics. Horses should not Slip on dry or wet ground. A bare foot horse has better traction than a horse with a metal shoe. That's crazy. What Engineer thought of that? Oh wait.. I bet thats the problem. It takes an Engineer to fix everything. And nobody has discussed this yet except farmers.

    • @M.U.S.H.R0.0.m
      @M.U.S.H.R0.0.m 2 месяца назад +1

      -_- the shoes help horses hooves not get cracked, broken, ect. Because unlike horses in the wild, they can wear down their hooves themselves! Hard plastic would probably cause them to break their leg/s. Have you ever tried to run with hard plastic stuck to your feet on a wet surface? It’s just like being on a wet ice rink with no grip on your shoes. Rubber would do the same thing.
