I Made a Robot From A Gum Container

- Aside from being amazing gum this container is perfect for a robot! Just by looking at the shape I knew it had to be made into a custom toy Robot. I used some Gundam bits, Final Faction parts and the legs from a Funko Legion Titanfall. The shape of this Hubba Bubba gum container made the perfect body for this robot. I also added an LED light from a tea light for an added effect.
This was definitely another think through it as you go build and the end result turned out pretty cool!
Here's the link to "How To Use LEDs In A Custom Build - The Easy Way" I used on this Tic Tac Robot:

I hope you enjoy this custom toy build video!
Thanks for visiting DR Toys, and as always...
"It's a great day to be a toy nerd!"
I love how you can take something that most people would just see as garbage and turn it into an amazing piece of art.
Thanks. There’s so many great bottles and containers out there begging to be used!😃
it was garbage, thats the point.
That’s creativity for ya

Those gum containers are famous in tabletop crafting circles. Most of us make generators out of them, since they look kind of like the field generators from Empire Strikes Back (Hoth battle). Makes a great robot. Very nice.
Nice!
If you make it show us
This robot looks great. The chunky legs really help give it bulk. Flipping the base was a good idea, too. I love all the decals and details.
Thanks. The packaging was begging to be made into something!😂
To my understanding, this is pretty much how most of the Sci-Fi designs in Star Wars and Star Trek were made- kitbashing random kits and bits together. When you consider that, I could really imagine your works being featured in Hollywood movies, among the most iconic designs!
You’re too kind… I’m just a toy nerd having a good time!😀
I appreciate that, thank you.
You give me so much inspiration! To take something normally seen as garbage and turn it into a fun, creative, beautiful piece of art. Please keep creating! I want to keep watching these.
Thanks so much 😊
3:38 - just in case you didn't know, the reason the tamiya doesnt stick them to the hubbabubba container is because the tamiya isnt actually a "glue" its a styrene solvent, it works by melting polystyrene based plastic and then evaporating leaving the plastic welded together. The pink container isnt styrene based so it won't work with it, you have to use something like superglue which is an actual glue
I was hoping to get lucky…😂
Thanks 😃
[7:07] The spackle didn't stick because you need to sand the wood down. It creates a better surface for the spackle to bond to.
Man I love those big chunky legs. Little guy looks simultaneously very badass and really adorable. Great work!
best description yet!😂
Thanks!
A killer robot build, one of the best kit bash I’ve seen. Turned out great. I especially like those small details you added.
I agree!
Thanks, I appreciate it! Just having fun building and it as much fun to share! 😃
The Hulky , Bulky .. Chunky legs are the highlights..overall it’s simply amazing to see how a normal bubble gum box turns out into a futuristic War Bot 👌🏼🤩
This was a fun package to work with…😃
Fantastic results! I’m inspired.
On the base … I would have brushed on a layer of PVA or Mod Podge on the wood. Let it dry. Then, when it’s time to put on the spackle, or air dry clay, just put a drop (or two) of water to reactivate the contact surface, spread with finger to make it slightly tacky. Then apply the putty/clay, spread it out and proceed as normal.
I normally use Mod Podge in my builds but I thought that would be faster…😂 Part of the journey.
I was watching this video, and my 8yo step daughter came in and said, " that looks like a gum case." I said it was, and she was in awe at what it looked like now. I have to say I share her sentiment . Awesome vision and execution!
That’s so fun to hear! Maybe we can convert her to be a toy creator!😃
It couldn’t have turned out any better! Nailed it! Absolutely crushed it!
Thanks!❤️
I haven't seen those containers since the 90's, that really brings me back! Great build, i need to find me some of these too.
I feel like this could also make for a fun spaceship or drop pod build, that square part could make for a fun little window for the pilot to look trough and if you pop it open you could make some nice internal detailing into the container itself to look at as an easter egg.
Imagine if we were allowed to break down our toys and knew we could make our own with the parts back when we were kids. Sid from Toy Story wasn't a bad guy, he was a visionary!
I got the gum at Walmart, it was like $2.
It would be amazing to go back in time if we knew what we know know, we would be the coolest kids on the playground!
Great looking robot!! The bro with the best intro on RUclips! The color choice was great! I've got one of those containers, but mine is gonna be for an Aliens diorama.
Thanks! Yeah, the container is awesome. I hope your build turns out amazing!
This is incredible! Amazing work turning gum into a robot!!
Thank you so much 😀
I KNEW THAT CONTAINER COULD BE USED FOR SOMETHING
The only problem was I was four at the time and didn’t know paint existed
😂
I'm from 1983, i too have had my fair share of Hubba Bubba in the 90's (they were in italy also, at the time).
Great taste for builds as ever Doc 👍😉
I haven’t had it for years and I forgot how good it tastes. And it great for making huge bubbles (3-4 pieces required).😂
Such an awesome looking mech!!!
VERY COOL! I have like 6 of those in my bits bin.. might be time to put on on my workbench
Heck yeah!😃
I love junk art made from the most unusual materials. True genius. Dude you rock!
Thanks!😃
Your enthusiasm is infectious and the build turned out great. Model on, Dave
Thanks! Will do!😃
Impressive work as always Dave.👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Great job. I love the metal look.
This honestly looks like a cool concept for Warhammer 40k.
Thanks
This is by far my favorite build you have done! It just looks so cool. The green paint makes it look like a futuristic military weapon and the light just sets off the whole model. Thanks for sharing this neat build.
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Looks fantastic!
This build was 6 feet of fun! Awesome work as usual
😂
This is so awesome. It gives me big Final Fantasy 7 energy for some reason.
DR Toys, amazing work buddy, I'm new to your channel but already a fan...Kudos!
Awesome! Thanks Gary!
That gum was always so good it made me want to always swollow it lol especially the grape
😂😂😂 And it makes the best bubbles!
Aaaaaaadorable and intimidating at the same time! I LOVE it!!
😃Thanks
I love the end result there, man. Really cool shapes coming together!
Thanks
It’s a beautiful Warhammer terrain!
What an amazing build it definitely turned out cool.
Thanks
Always feel inspired after watching your vids, THANKS DOC
I love to hear that! Thanks!
I can really imagine this little guy hopping and trundling along in Metal Slug animation style
I definitely thought it had a frog vibe.😃
this was a killer scratch build!
Thanks!
The best thing about bubble tape is the container it came in.
💯!
glad you did a bot in a Gum container
I literally found one of those containers this morning and thought "mini space ship".. it makes a sweet bot... you can make a great modeling "clay" with tissue and acrylic paint, it drys to a hard plastic liked material. its a variation of poor mans fiberglass
That’s a cool tip! Thanks.
That is really cool, who knew you could build something great and have a delicious treat too, i really like your builds, look forward to the one.
That gum is so good!!! And it makes amazing bubbles!😂
This was a beautiful kitbashing project!
I love the creativity of it :)
Thank you! 😊
This is doing so much for my inner child. I just stumbled across your videos last month and love each new build!
That makes me so happy to hear. There’s so much crazy in the world sometimes it’s nice to get away and be a kid again!😃
I'm a 40k nerd an found your video by happistance but I love your work and find it inspiring!
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
This one was sooooooo cool…as they usually are! Great job!! 😎
Thanks!
That looks so cool!
Great work 👏
That might be my favorite divot you've ever made. To whoever suggested that, that was a great idea!
thank you, for your clips, love em....
Great build. I enjoyed watching this kit bash! Hi
Thanks.
Unbelievable transformation!!! Totally Rad
Thanks!
I thought this was going to be a functional desk sized Roomba, that being said your statue was awesome
😂
Thanks!
Also good for 20mm scale 'hover tanks', the turrets I use are the top from an artificial sweeteners dispenser.
YES A PERFECT BUILD WITH A PERFECT GUM
Looks amazing! Like something that stomped its way out of the imagination of some WWI tech designer! Color choices were spot on as well. Great work!
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I have watched all of your videos now and have been patiently waiting for this video. I wish you could post a couple a week, but I understand the challenges of life. I reckon this is a beautie! You have so much skill and imagination. I love your creativity and laid-back style. Thank you. (Now waiting for the next one!) 😀
Wow! Thanks so much and sorry for some of the earlier videos that were a little rough!😂
I’m currently in CA helping out my sister so I’m hoping to get another video up in two weeks.😬
one of my favorites that you've done!
Thanks
Amazing work!!
Great result man, the bubba pack literally looks like it was destined to be a little battle bot, love it
Right!
I think there’s other possibilities with this container as well! 😃
Omg ! As a kid I use to imagine those exact bubblegum tape dispensers where spaceships.
Right!!! Such a great shape!
This looks amazing man. I love those legs! Someone did not skip leg day
😅
@@DRToysCreations were you able to find an Eve toy?
@@thestoryteller1920 Not yet. : )
that container was made for something cool. and on a different way like a flat surface will be nice to.
I totally agree! Definitely more bots to come from this packaging.😃
Too cool 😎 I’ve been doing some junk builds and mods. Thank you for your inspiration and videos. 😊
Sure thing, glad to do it.
Thanks for watching!
That’s sick! I always thought those containers were cool.
Right?!
I usually try to obscure the original shape of trash bits but this works so well as is. Hubba bubba robot uprising? 🤔
Yeah, it was just begging to be used!😂
childhood's favorite gum omg i want it so bad
😂
amazing work man!!!!
I totally loved your work, it was really cool and was very like to the dystopian concept of machine warfare, your art reminded me of the game Metal Slug too. In my opinion I would remain only put some yellow bands on the back of the robot, at the place of tank, behind the machine, so it would seem it carrying the fuel (like the danger bands on Monsters S.A screaming cylinders).
I love that! Thanks!
Love the whole process..it's great 👍🔥
Thanks
In case you haven't noticed it looks like an NR-N99 Tank Droid from the Battle of Kashyyyk. Except as a walker. I could definitely see this in star wars lore. Great Build! My last comment you liked about machines on a wookie planet 😂 smh.. couldn't think lastnight.
Oh yeah, I can totally see that. Yeah, I even looked up online last night to see what you were talking about…😂😂😂
that looks cool!
Amazing robot!!
It's adorable and I love it
Thanks
BIG WELL DONE.
Thanks
You need a mesh for the mastic to stick. I used burlap for a mosaic on pink foam board. Worked very well.
Great tip!
First time viewer here. Seeing something iconic like a Bubble Tape container turned into a droid/mech is pretty cool and seems like it'd be fun to do! And with the music playing, it was definitely giving me End of Stage Boss fight vibes.
Thanks so much!
Hail to you, Revered Techpriest!
Looks like the robots RoboCop I love it
I thought the same thing!😃
Thanks
This one is awesome, I really like it.
Thanks
Dang it man, just when i get my hording under control, ya gotta show me one more thing i can turn into something cool instead of throwing it out😄curse you , you awesome litlle MacGyver you!
The struggle is real!😅
Oh wow, very cool!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍
Definitely feel like this has taken out a few of the aliens from starship troopers.
Really cool.
I've also seen people make some of the terrain power coils for warhammer 40k tables with these.
Hey Toy Nerd i was thinking how cool it would be if you could do a short stop motion animation of a number of your awesome builds in action. Maybe have two or three separate factions against one another, sort of like a space battle if you will and maybe some ground action as well. I know this idea would be an enormous endeavor but I believe seeing your builds animated and in action would be insanely great. They do deserve this treatment. Anyway, I was just throwing out the idea. Let me know what you think. Take care...
I love that! I have so many projects going right now that most of my friends think I’m crazy!
It would be totally cool if a stop motion animator reached out to me and take my character and make something amazing.😃
I love what you do man keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
I've said it before and I'll say it again you never fail to amaze me. I'd have to say now this is probably one of my top three favorites of what you've done. I totally love this machine-bot. It is so very very cool and awesome.
Just a thought on the base when you put the putty on maybe it would go on easier if you scratched the top up first with a wire brush or something like that, I don't know for sure if it would work but it might give a rougher surface to stick to.
Thank so much!
That’s a great idea, someone also mentioned to wet the base and it would go on easily.
Great video Doc!!
Thanks man!
just brilliant :)
Sweet build ;) You ought to get a copy of Gamma Wolves and stat these up for gaming.
I wasn’t familiar with Gamma Wolves so I just looked them up, these are super cool!!
Thanks for sharing!
@@DRToysCreations I've actually gotten some of the Funko Titanfall mechs to use in the game as heavy frames.
amazing build man, subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
Try using watered down pva on the wood to get it a little moist it should raise the fibers a bit and the sparkle should stick easier
Awesome tip, thanks!
This looks like a droid character that would appear in the Warhammer universe.
I totally see that!😃
Hey Dr. Toys, you ever considered creating your own custom scratch built army with the stuff you use for an agnostic tabletop minature game or rpg games? Love to see you come up with something.👍
So I have never really got into rpg gaming… I don’t know if I have the patience, UNO take to long for me.😂
That being said I love looking at all of the mini figurines, the details is insane!
@DR Toys - Custom Toys totally understand. Suggest, love to see ou use your stuff and create a DnD monster?
Very kool!!! And I just noticed after watching your videos for a while now that somethings up with your eyebrows 😂
The fact is that I barely have any…😂😂😂
I’m just glad it doesn’t effect my toy making!😂
@@DRToysCreations I really do admire the figures and models you make though eyebrows aside hahaa
I'd gladly buy then and use then in a dnd campaign
Rocks aren't grey. The basic minerals might be, but they're going to be influenced by the surrounding ground, either because they are made from the same minerals as the surrounding sand, or because they've gotten dirty or dusted by the surrounding soil over time. Grey rocks appear more in high elevations or areas of dense vegetation.
Thanks…
I thought yiu were going to build a Pac-man bot to start with 😅..... Great looking robot 🤖 👍
That’s a great idea! I may steal it… LOL
Reminds me of the MFU-68 Laborer from Atomic Heart. I love it!
