      Thanks for watching! I've moved from the EX5 (from 1997) to this, and the basics are still the same. But man, that online manual for the Montage is really not-so-good compared to the EX5 300 pages-with-keyword-index printed manual.

    Floyd you got your self a nice board.
    Thanks for sharing that patching session. Like the result.
    Tons of options for workflows and sounds. Saw your MPC one on the desk.
    My MPC acts like an Sequenzer/Sampler/ Sound Extension Module to my MODX7.
    They connected via USB cable, share MIDI and Audio. The MODX acts as audio and interface between the MPC and to the rest of my gear. Which connects via MIDI with other sound modules and a via that Mixer can route that audio back into MPC via the A/D channel to record Audio or samples.
    That makes it a very powerful Workstation setup. Wish I had the space for M8x.

      Thanks for watching! That's the way I'm planning use this setup as well (ordered an extra long USB cable ;-). I find the Montage's sequencer to be a bit undercooked (especially in comparison to the 25 years older EX5). I hope they add some features in future updates, a step sequencer in particular.

      @ thanks for the reply. Would not count on that Yamaha will spent resources on the sequencer. The first releases of the original montage and MODx did not even had the pattern sequencer.
      I know you an old timer on Yamaha gear. But in case you did not saw this yet. Check out the YamahaSynth pages, there are some cool learning resources as well as links like a converter for original DX7 patches or free SampleRobot for Montage. Have fun. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

    Feels so good to have one really nice keyboard.

      Yes! I always dreamt of having a weighted 88 keys keyboard. Can cross that off my list now. ;-)

    I haven't yet gotten used to see a Montage on your channel. 😄 It stands out as "not like the others" compared to the gear you usually feature. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm certainly going to reference this video for inspiration while layering multiple softsynths to create my own patches in this same vein.

    • @mr_floydst

      I'm working on a video explaining my motivations, but in order to do justice to this machine and not making a fool of myself, that'll take a while. But one thing I can say is the weighted 88 keys keyboard was one very important factor.

    First off thanks for this! The default Goblins patch is exactly the same on the classic Montage too. I followed your video and now created a 'Floyd Goblins' patch on the classic Montage too. Some parameter values are unfortunately not very clear in the video (and some parameter ranges also don't match exactly on the M) but I think I got quite close. Note also on Montage M you can actually have 128 AWM elements per part. There is probably a setting somewhere to go from 8 => 128.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  16 дней назад +1

      Thanks for pointing that out! As I said in the video, the danger of making a fool of myself are relatively big right now ;-)

      @RipVanShed 6 дней назад

      Yes, I wondered if I was the only one noticing it hard to read the parameter values… please understand this comment as trying to provide “helpful feedback.” Many Thanks again for very interesting video!

      @@RipVanShed I'm always glad to get constructive criticism! In this case, I ordered that HDMI adapter, but it turned out it didn't work. So I shot the video with a 4k camera but set up the focus and aperture incorrectly, which I only noticed after I had recorded the whole thing. And then I was too lazy to do it all again ;-)
      The next in-depth video will be with a screen capture.

      Yes looks very nice, but still missing VL and FDSP :) Does the AWM2 engine differ much to the AWM in the EX5?

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  15 дней назад +2

      @@electronicfury There are 128 parts / oscillators now instead of 4, and 4000 waves to choose from instead of the 400-ish. Also, the motion sequencer makes a very big difference.
      Apart from that, you'll quickly understand Montage AWM when coming from the EX5.
      And yes, GIEV VL AND FDSP PLXPLX YAMAHA OMG :-)

  • @coder_frog

    Cool stuff, I wasn't aware that Goblin patches were a common thing! I thought it was just a strangely named preset on my JV-1080. I'll have to go through my other synths to see if they have one to compare.
    If you're planning on doing more patch tutorials, it may be worth looking into the Montage's USB display output to get a clean capture of what's on the screen.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  15 дней назад +2

      Thanks! This patch is on a lot of synths, it was part of the original General Midi sound set, but it also sounds quite nice (in my opinion), with that "filter sizzle". There's a lot of filter motion going on in this patch, usually, so it's a nice tech demo.
      I've already bought a display adapter but it doesn't seem to work, seems I need a very specific one.
