  • Manufactured in 1995 this is the newest walkie talkie made by Radio Shack that I own. In comparison to the other older models, this transceiver has a low noise floor and is able to pull in some weaker stations that the others will miss. Looking and working as new and part of my vintage Citizens Band collection.

I've got the 222 - you just have to keep an eye to make sure those batteries don't leak - they don't make them like they used to especially duracells. Luckily mine fires up fine but I'm not hearing a lot of activity on the CB bands these days.

My significant other brought one of these home recently and I thought it would make a great prop as my old cellphone to show my young adults how tough it was when I was their age lol. That antenna can poke an eye out if you're not careful.

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving from the Great Northwest what are your thoughts on the realistic TRC 101 23 channel I'm considering one of those or the 222

      Happy Thanksgiving.
To be honest I know nothing about the TRC 101 or 101B other than it being manufactured in the early 70's or late 60's.
I am sure if you can find a decent working unit, it will function as it should. But don't be disappointed if some work will need to be done with it .

These have really Tinny Receive Audio. I have one, unless mine has an issue?

Just put some batteries in mine and some guy on number 6 came blasting through. Maybe your speaker is bad.

@@KB2CWN Its not that I cant hear them. It is Earbleed Tinny. Xmit audio is fine on another Hand Held, a TRC-216.

Is the receive Audio on these Shrill or Tinny?

    • @KB2CWN
      @KB2CWN  3 года назад

It is what it is. The speaker is 2 inches in diameter, .03 watts. How much audio can we expect from a speaker that small. Its perfect for a walkie talkie. In short, It isn't a Tram Base Station.
If you believe yours sounds bad, there are many to be had on ebay. This model and many others are always being sold. Check them out.
I have had many questions like this from others via email. When I have some time I will make another video of it receiving when propagation improves and post it here. Then everyone can decide if they like the audio or not.
      Thanks for your comments

@@KB2CWN I understand that, compared to others it is Tinny. I may swap for another 8 Ohm Speaker at least 0.5w. After over 33 years as an Amateur and Tinkering, I will Tinker on...

35 years ticked for me and counting.
Just a reminder, magnet size coincides with wattage. A bigger magnet may not fit correctly.
I don't believe the audio on mine differs from any other realistic ht i own. They basically all sound the same to me. Ill make a video when propagation improves, and when those guys on 6 start flapping their jaws. Then you can here the audio on mine and determine whether you hava an issue with your speaker or not.

BTW...53 years total in the radio hobby. Started in 1968 when CB was a normal licensed radio service. Built my first Heathkit at age 15.
That comstat 25a was bought new in 1968/69 and I have overhaul it a few years back. Tinkering is my friend.
