Pirates Online is still definitely alive, it just have a different face now. The community brought it back from the dead, once Disney completely abandoned the fans. Massive respect to those who brought back the game and not only still continue to support it but also continue to add new and interesting features. This is still arguably the best Pirate MMO ever made.

Awesome video! The Legend of Pirates Online is a true recreation to Pirates Online with all the original features and more, they've done consistent updating and new features for many years now. With tons of new zones and a new island recently released. I love the scuffed upside down mouse, relatable OBS issues.
Obs was rough lol, I was really impressed with the private server. Completely free and seemed like a lot of passion went into it 👍
But did they ever add a Kraken battle? No lie, that was kinda the thing that got me to try the game was the hopes of fighting The Kraken.

I put some time into this game as a kid. I saved up gold until I got a better ship. Then I sold it for gambling money. Then I gambled all of that away, leaving me where I started.
That's when I had my mom cancel my subscription, but this life lesson is why I never forgot this game.

Regarding ship combat, it’s much much much better when you have a team of other players on your ship, or you’re on another persons ship. It’s amazing to be on the cannons and seeing ships pass by and sinking them
god, being on a ship with multiple players going all out was the absolute best!
I remember being only able to play this game at my Grandma’s house, so it took me years to hit level 40, but when I did it was defining moment of gaming for me.
I remember boarding/sinking the Queen Anne’s revenge event ship that was really hard to do, but the captain refused to dock and a bunch of high level AI ships I didn’t know even existed sunk us

Ahh yes POTC Online. Fond memories I had. It was kinda hard to play it since I wasn't a subscriber so I was quite limited in what I could do but having my own ship and sailing the high seas never got old for me. Nice to see the game lives on though private efforts by fans much like alot of MMOs of the time like Toontown Rewritten and Star Wars Galaxies.
I miss this game. Came back to see if there is any videos of the large East India Trading Company battle that had the whole server going to it, and found this. Thank you for making this video. Truly a masterpiece.
I remember I played with this one kid and he was just so awesome and over powered he killed everything in his wake for me because I was such low level. I still remember him telling me he had to stop playing for good. I don’t remember why exactly but he said I’ll be back soon and I’ll rule this world forever! Really made me feel cool as hell being able to play with him I was like 10 years old at the time and it was the only online game my computer was powerful enough to play. Shame I don’t even remember his name either but I remember how he made me feel.
I remember when I started playing this game. My basic access never took my past level 7 and my Light Galleon while fun to use, always made me feel sad whenever I saw one of the war ships (particularly a war galleon). One day though my older brother got me a membership and boy on howdy was it so great to be able to continue the Black Pearl quest. I still remember getting my War Galleon (my first war ship) later on and also I still remember it’s name, “Dark-Blade Warrior”.
Dude, oh my god, i literally just remembered this game this morning, re-downloaded it and played it until it crashed on me. This was the first video game i played and it's almost as good as i remember.
Great video, you deserve way more subscribers and views keep grinding and putting out hits like this and I’m sure they will come.
I remember this game spending hours killing guards and not really being sure why I was doing that but it was fun
I used to play with a girl named Rose, something I can’t remember the last part, everyday on this game. Until one day my dad deleted the game without telling me and I could never find her again. 15 plus years later and it still makes me upset when I think about it knowing we will never reconnect and talk again.
I loved this game but my parents never wanted to buy a membership for me but still I played it for a lot of time. It was great, I would love a game like this but remastered to a 2023 level.
Miss this game so much.

I'd cast my vote for Fusionfall if you grew up on Cartoon Network. It was SURREAL to see my favorite characters interacting with each other.

Is it weird the Johnny Depp trial got me to binge every one of these films yesterday… I remember this game and being so lost when I was younger. That’s what I loved about it honestly, just being able to explore and sail with other people
Love that WoW inn music in the background. Pirates Online was my first MMO back in 2008 when I was 10! That's about what level I got up to when I played back then as well. My favorite thing in Pirates of The Caribbean Online was a PvP activity called privateering. My family later made me stop playing due to supposed spyware which I later learned as an adult from one of my Season of Mastery guildies was an anti-cheat method in the form of a rootkit. I guess this game was ahead of its time when it came to official malware/spyware, beating many big tech companies by roughly 5 years or more. Mere months later I got into ROBLOX which is the only MMO I am a true veteran of even if it's not a traditional MMORPG (though you can make one in it and my favorite of which was Arcane Adventures back in 2017), consistently playing for the most part time and again, seeing the many changes to it since October 2008 and along the way I also played RuneScape, Wizard 101, Toontown Online of course, Spiral Knights, Eldevin, the closed beta of LEGO Universe, the open beta of Transformers Universe, Age of Armor, etc. I wanted to play WoW during Wrath but I didn't actually end up starting until Legion during my adulthood and I've been loving Classic for the past 3 years and it is my favorite version of WoW. I wanted to learn EverQuest in early 2019 to hold me over in time for WoW Classic as well and I had briefly dabbled in Project 1999. I also played a bit of Toontown Rewritten around that time and it was super nostalgic. I even made a friend and we both agreed that it's highly unlikely any actual kids play Rewritten but rather nostalgic adults like us but I stopped playing after that one time. It was a real shame that when I turned 13, I couldn't successfully update my account so I couldn't play official Toontown for its last few years of life. Also, all Disney MMOs ranging from Toontown to Pirates to Pixie Hollow to whatever else excluding Club Penguin were shut down in 2013 because Disney wanted to focus more on mobile and whatnot. What was also nice back then is that you could use one account across all Disney MMOs which is something I found out the hard way when I erroneously made a separate Toontown account because my old username was already "taken."

Pirates Online is one of my all time favorites. Since TLOPO came out I have been constantly going back to play again every couple months.
Of all the games I play and come back to, this is definitely my top. I will be truly heartbroken when the code inevitably gets lost for good... 😢
You lets out a good amount of combat mechanics from bombs, to throwing daggers, to muskets, and staffs

I miss the game when they introduced real time dynamic invasions different times on different servers and the outcome changed the island. I loved that Bonfire parties if the pirates won

There is so much more that you didn’t mention with this game was capable of. You can have Hella pirates on your ship and fight, high-level enemy ships, and sometimes even jump aboard the enemy ship and do a pirate war. The winner gets the loot and the loser Thinks losing his ship and all of his prize possessions and is awoken in prison feeling groggy. I freaking love with the groggy system. It was a real good punishment for when you die.
I remember playing through this game so many times, but there was a trial or something. So I'd always only get so far. My parents definitely would have never bought me a game subscription lmao
you should do an episode on city of heroes, it came out in 2002 and shutdown in 2012 but private servers came out a few years ago and they have brought back a ton of old players, it was my childhood game and it was insane going from being 10 when it ended to being 16 or 17 when it came back.
In my childhood, I was obsessed with this game, because of the action in it, I beat up a lot of soldiers and skeletons.
One day I'll look to play the new game recreated from the original, I hope.

There's kill animations in Skyrim and multiple ways to make attacking fun you're just obviously not ready to kill that enemy lol

So I was born in 2002, and this game has a very nostalgic appeal to me. I remember being present for the server shut down as a large scale invasion begun on Port Royal. As a kid I thought that maybe if we won the servers would stay up, but that was not the case. I also played Wizard101 and Pirate101 as a kid, and while I loved Pirate101's Fire Emblem land combat, the ship combat was absolutely terrible. Anytime I got bored of Pirate101's ship combat I would load up this game and go cannoning on somebody's War Brig. Also the Pirate's Code was most likely made for this game for the ESRB rating, as neither you or any of the Navy ever shoot one another with a gun in gameplay.
So I downloaded it.. pretty dang fun still man.

Moving the mouse had nothing to do with the combo system; it was all just button mashing. Granted, you had to time your swings, but it was still just button mashing.

This game was so much better than Sea of Thieves. Yes, it may have better graphics but POTCO was way more fun to play.

I know that you're making a joke about clunky mechanics at 5:25, but you're actually accidentally using true to life historical naval tactics wherein smaller, faster ships would come up alongside larger ones just close enough to be below the range of their guns, but just far away enough where they couldn't mount a boarding action.

This is by far one of the worst best games I've ever played. Even by the standards of games at the time, it was seriously lackluster and unpolished. Yet it still managed to be fun.
