Ryan, I’m a teacher (writing teacher), and I have to say-you’re the best teacher I’ve found on RUclips. I love the breakdowns, I love the way you think through how to communicate an idea. Keep it up, and thanks for all of the great teaching.
The best instructions ever for forehand. I been trying to find many instructions to improve my forehand but never succeed until this!!! and by just pulling left hand like this clip, my life changing completely ;))) Awesome indeed. Thanks a million.
My forehand has gone through many changes for the better over the last couple years. One change I am doing now is the inverted racket take back which really improves everything when I do it right. You have a nice inverted take back which is not as easy as it looks if you got muscle memory of not inverting, but better each time I practice.
We've had our tennis courts in Ireland shut since before Christmas. As soon as Covid19 allows, I'm looking forward to bringing some of your tips to the court Ryan. Thanks a million.
Another great video. I'd like to bring out a point that i don't often see. Note how Djokovic - like many very high level players - has a "secret" move: he actually stops his upper body rotation as his racquet approaches the ball and hence gets more of a whipping action through the ball as a result (and then continues the rotation). Simona does not do this (she continues rotation) hence why her left arm is more behind her on the hit than Novak. Rory McIroy does the "freeze" move in his golf swing too, and gets more speed and distance as a result. Incredibly hard to achieve!
Thanks for instruction on the non dominant hand. I don't know if I am doing that, but I will make sure I am doing from now on. I noticed your unit turn has several small steps, while djoko's has just one , looking more fluid .
Hey Ryan, I’m truly impressed by your slightly different approach and unique tips. Will ask for some one on one tips soon, just too busy at the moment with Easter. Thanks once again.

Thank you Ryan, these are very important tips and helping to imrove my tennis play a lot.
this works for players imitating novak, I am more of Roger fan, the follow-through with the eastern grip wouldn’t work the same way than this semiwestern thing, nice vid 👍
This video did not show Novak's follow through. Because both he and Roger and 99 percent of the ATP lag on their forehands their arms do not have to go up as high as the WTA style strokes, and it makes no sense to then bring their arm up for the follow through and catch it with their left hand over their shoulder. I am not sure non tennis academy kids should learn the ATP forehand because it is quite hard to learn and to time well even if you know and can execute the concept.
Thank you for this fantastic channel (love). Can you please explain the foot work while rotating and preparing to hit the ball? I notice that there is a difference between Djokovic's feet while rotating and yours. He rotates on his right foot without moving it and then advances with the left one while hitting (generating more power)... I am not sure if my observation is correct.
Hey Ryan, you should collab with Nick from Intuitive Tennis. You might not know him but that’s the name of his channel and he is also a really good tennis coach. A collab would be good
Question on the unit turn, Ryan: on your unit turn you move your left foot towards your right foot rather than only pivoting on it. It looks like Djokovic only pivots. Is this left foot movement a big deal to avoid or just a personal preference?
This coach has made some valid points, however, his own demonstration is poor because his footwork does not properly show the correct way of making a unit turn - he has turned his feet sideways along with the shoulders instead of coiling the upper body from the waist (leaving the footwork stance semi-open) For a proper explanation of the unit turn and its purpose go to Tomaz Mencinger from 'Feel Tennis'
Hi, what I notice is you are turning your whole body, while Novak and actually many others turn only their upper body. I also try to turn only upper body . What do you think is better move?
I commented above on the hip separation Djokovic and many other pros get, where their shoulders turn more, and I believe that's what you're referring to. Salzenstein has a video on this (linked above in my reply to West).
I notice on your racket drop your racket face doesn’t really face the ground to point you could put tennis balls on top. You use that as an example in past forehand videos. Perhaps I’m not seeing it correctly. Love your tutorials. Thanks
Ryan actually has a similar move to Tsitsipas on the racquet drop. Personally, I think focusing too much on strings facing the ground can create problems in other areas of the stroke. Search RUclips for a video by TPA tennis called "Pat The Dog" Forehand - Why I Don't Teach It...
good comparison, but I think Djokovic's finish is below shoulder level and therefore much lower than the other two players. Maybe it´s because he rises his elbow higher to get that windsreen wiper effect.
Hello mate I really enjoy your videos and have learned alot, I also am a tennis coach and have a few questions I would like to ask just wondering do you have a email I can contact you on?
I disagree with your extending the arm and following through high. This is great when you're in position, but for most shots, this will end up going out of bounds. I've tried it and that's what happens. If you observe how Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek hit and follow through, they bend their elbow and follow-through around their body imparting massive top-spin which keeps the ball in the court, despite the speed and power. Leading to powerful shots that stay in the court consistently. I've tried their way and now all my shots stay in the court, but with power and spin.
No honey. If you are at the baseline which is “ most shots” you have to finish high to impart topspin. If you are inside the court you still have to hit up if the ball is low. Only if it’s high ball then you hit across. You must be hitting super flat and your balls land in the serve box. Ask any tennis teacher you need to finish over the shoulder or up
l made this comment based on one of your other videos. Keep stressing to tennis players how important it is to keep the wrist firm reaching up and out on the forehand. Again the second most famous coach behind Rick Macci has his students just mindlessly flail at the forehand. At the highest levels under the most pressure the flailing forehand is not going to work. To me one of the main reasons for the big 3's dominance has to do with having proper technique on the forehand. Great video, your thoughts?
@@2MinuteTennis no thank you for the content, i legit went out after watching your forehand vids and hit the best forehands i’ve ever hit! but still can’t play rn cause of my grades :( is aight tho still gonna try to get em up
@@2MinuteTennis Ryan, your forehand looks good but what about the hip separation from the shoulders during the unit turn? I noticed Djokovic still hasn't turned his hips as much as his shoulders, where you appear to be more completely side on with your entire upper body (maybe that's why the little steps you took elicited the above comment). Salzenstein thinks just turning side on is wrong: ruclips.net/video/NaP7RiVXz2E/видео.html
Great video. I agree with Mark's comment. There is a difference between coiling in the unit turn (Djokovic) and simply turning the whole body to the side (Ryan - partially!). That means Djokovic can rotate the hips to lead the arm, whereas Ryan's hips are more "quiet". This is understandable as Ryan is slowing things down.
You’ll notice djokovic’s feet are almost parallel to the baseline when he brings the racket back and yours are pretty much perpendicular. I’m not a tennis expert, but from a physics standpoint, I doubt you’re able to get much power.
You do not look at all like Novak , stop saying we ...turn we hit , you do not turn properly ...in fact you make some 3..4 steps to turn. Watch this again the you may want to turn off this video from you tube ...you and Djokovic have the best forehand on tour :)
He is not dropping the racquet, he is pulling the racquet so that the racquet drops naturally.. you don't drop the racquet with your arm.. that's a mistake..

could you please make a video on how to continue rallies? if you do decide to make one "thank you"

Yes I teach the Braden method same as Steve. I was trained by a student of Steve’s.
