Thanks a lot. Pretty cool that people are still discovering our music. Wish we coulda keep going but that's another story. I was playing an Aria Pro in the video. And you're right, Klaude is playing a Charvel. The Jackson was stolen from the trunk of a friends car in Manhattan. That was a bad ass guitar...
I saw this video on headbangers Ball back in the days. Made me start my metal Journey ending up in starting as a musician myself playing death metal/goregrind.
I remember watching them rehears in Jersey City (83-85) when they were Stryker. Vito was one of the guitarists and Rich was the singer. Then Chino (Danny) sang and they went through several guitarists. Last I heard, Claudio (Klaude Ryker - Ha, ha!) moved to Chile. I saw Chino last year at the Heaven & Hell show in NYC. Chavarri was a character, always walking around air-drumming. I've not seen him in years.
Our first record label actually came up with the name. Original name of the band was already taken and we couldn't release the first album under it. We cared more about playing music and chillin with our fans. Fail? Nope... we loved what we did. Who gives a shit about the name of the band? Funny, back then there really wasn't much of a "Goth" scene so the name didn't really cause much confusion. I can see how it does today.. we definitely weren't Goth.. lol.
... look im just watchin a vhs with this n i think that's awesome, video above has much more worse quality.. Just (forgot word) investigate (?) those goddamn links above n found some childish bullshit.. but now i c that cool things were 8 y ago men ... Damn.. Lokz like im late men
THRASH TILL DIE !!! SLAM TILL DEATH!! GOTHIC SLAM !!!!! I'm proud i still having "Just a face in the crowd" in cassette. Great band, great album, underated.
in the mid to late 80s thrash got to be like hair bands, you had the big 5 but you had a bunch of other great bandsto. i miss the 80s and early 90s thrash death metal. when metal was fucking metal!!! none of this lame ass re hashed so called metal.i like the real thing.
i used to be in a band with klaude ryker(lead guitarist) like last year. he was trying to make a comeback but couldn't quite get his shit together(alcohol) so i left but we did win a local award for "outstanding hard rock band of the year"
FUCK that riff at 2:00 is fucking thrash to the bone. Love them but i don't know why i had the impression they were an all girl group that played thrash...??? why the hell did i think that...sounds a bit like Bitter End too
Wow! Dave Chavarri! I worked with him and the bass player around 90-91 when GS kinda broke up. My band, Next of Kin, broke up then, but we didn't click musically. We were good friends. Dave is a MANIAC! Hysterical guy. Talented as fuck! GS reunited with another singer for a while. They were the best!
@CVW2112 hmmm the skill or the ideas ? I think that the skill is better but the music is lacking ideas and experimentation .. those silly x-core rythms destroyed the sense of melody in our days
My band is probably covering this song... no tabs on it, but pretty basic riffage... figured the first 4 main riffs to the song out in 5 minutes... so it should provide for excellent moshage live!
Awesome album. Wouldn't say he sounds like Zetro though. Doesn't have that evil sounding harshness to his voice. Sorta reminds me of early Anthrax. Underrated band for sure though.
The band name made me laugh a little in the middle of my current period where it's unknown if my girlfriend and I are going to continue, but the music thrashes mad!
I get a kick out of the 80s metal bands where their made complaint was that people gave them grief over the length of their hair. that happened a LOT back then.
I still own the tape and CD. I remember seeing the video debut on headbangers ball. I wish there would've been a second album just to see the progression of the band.
Thanks a lot. Pretty cool that people are still discovering our music. Wish we coulda keep going but that's another story.

Just a Face in The Crowd was a killer of an album!!!

Must respect the vocalist for his brave attempt at growing a 'stache.
Sounds like Overkill :)
I'm 16 an love gothic slam! They r the biggest undiscovered band of all time!
Awesome, catchy song! Thrash forever!
I like the cheese guitar-hero acting.
THRASH!!!!!!!! amazing band!!
No, it's "metalhead", if you have metalhead in your name a poser, because honestly, if you have to call yourself a metalhead, you aren't.
Coolest comments page ever!!!
Bad ass all jamming!!!

THRASH TILL DIE !!!
SLAM TILL DEATH!!
GOTHIC SLAM !!!!!
I'm proud i still having "Just a face in the crowd" in cassette.
Great band, great album, underated.
Well I hear it.
And I've never heard anyone say that. But in any case, Slayer and Dark Angel are shit, so it's not something I'd compare.
Fucking RULE!
How can you not hear the similarity?
Listen to some oldskool Overkill, then this and you'll see.
temaso genial grande traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaashhhhhhhhh

FUCK that riff at 2:00 is fucking thrash to the bone. Love them but i don't know why i had the impression they were an all girl group that played thrash...??? why the hell did i think that...sounds a bit like Bitter End too

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Great song, I'm gonna check out more of this band.
@CVW2112 hmmm the skill or the ideas ? I think that the skill is better but the music is lacking ideas and experimentation .. those silly x-core rythms destroyed the sense of melody in our days

Jersey City,Union City...New Jersey...cool with the one white guitarist..well the only white guy in the band for that matter lol but ya, kickass band
I bought their record back then! Very good Power/Thrash, something like "Anthrax meets Helstar"!
I mean i have a vhs with better quality:) and now im watching it. But seems you was here 8 years ago:))) so i'm legend:))
I get a kick out of the 80s metal bands where their made complaint was that people gave them grief over the length of their hair. that happened a LOT back then.
Guaaaaaaa, excelente tema... no sé dónde mierda estaré ese cassette. Buenos recuerdos.
Be confused no longer: You're thinking of Stryper, NOT Stryker.
@AsphyxGr I have my Ibanez's and doing stuff like this BUT the skill level is very limited these days!!!
fuck.....totally loved the solo when Klaude jumped above Genese.... DUDE THIS SONG IS FUCKING AWESOME
Ahh, another band of my youth!
They were fun to hang with and sounded better live than on tape.
@komlentor87 We're from Northern Eastern New Jersey, USA. About a mile from New York City.
wow nice!! I didn't expect I'd find them on youtube :D thanks for the upload!
Just be careful with your comparisons so as not to diminish Blitz's greatness.
@22CSX23 yes, back when MTV actually played good music. aint that a suprise?
totally forgot about this band! tooooo much weeed back in the day lol
this whole album was good..I have it on record..Vynal was the shit...
@MetalThrashingMad87 Makes sense since they're both Jersey bands.
hahah awesome name "gothic slam" lol! these guys fuckin riff!!
I'm confused.. I thought stryker were a crappy christian band...
I wish this genre would make a comeback, when metal was real.
