These lessons are super cool man. Never saw topics like this that can go from simple to complex in so little time and so well explained.
I'm so glad you're back delivering great content as usual.
Three years ago, when my daughter was born, I used to watch your videos at 3 or 5 am while feeding her and it was so helpful. I still take advantage of many of those concepts when writing music. Thanks Jeff!
A huge YES to more harmony videos! Thanks for this series, it's been really great to see a different approach to harmony that frees up my thinking from diatonic droning on!
How did a Jewish guy get involved with gospel and neo soul harmony. Great job you def invited to the cookout.
Welcome back Jeff! More harmony videos on piano please. So good to see you back with content.
This was a great way to get the most out of reharmonizing a song, learned a lot, thanks for sharing your time and effort us.i will keep in touch. Have a great day every one. 👍👐
You're very welcome!
Welcome back, Jeff! It's great to see you posting again. I hope all is well
Thanks, you too!
Simply superb! Inspiring and empowering in equal measure. Very many thanks, Sir.
Great tutorial. I think the interesting thing you’re doing is constructing the reharms off the leading tones of the melody. You can literally see the melody notes being played if you just focus on the top-most keys on the virtual keyboard. Little twist towards the end, but a deceptively “simple” approach that sounds and looks complex and rich. Thanks for the great content and inspiring teaching.
'Really great ideas for voice leading and finding cool harmonies. Good stuff Jeff!
Hey Jeff on any given Sunday morning the waterfall technique might indeed prove to be overwhelming for many congregants. Still it's great for illustration purposes. And Great Is Thy Faithfulness is a good example to play around with. I myself frequently practice with What A Friend We Have in Jesus. I find that's a relatively easy one to reharmonize. Thanks for this video and thank you for sharing your wonderful gift as always
Continue with these types of videos they are extremely helpful Thanks 🙏
Happy to see your tuto again
More to come!
Thanks!
"newsflash: I am Jewish" 😃
You are amazing man!
So can you reharmonize by using other concepts, like doing a 2-5 (F to C) and then go down one chromatically (E) and then do a 2-5 (E to A), etc.? Can you also do things like reharmonize by outlining a minor 7 chord (F to Aflat to C to Eflat)?
This will definitely crank up the stank tank. Many thank!
Love this! I think we need more D’Angelo analyses next
Thanks!
Of course we want more
Jeff, this sounds very good, but my question is, #1 I'm a jazz alto sax player, how do I improvise over this? #2 I'm an unschooled singer with a great ear who is hired to sing harmony behind the lead singer. What do I sing?
Z says anything you want it to be if it sounds dope! But you had me at X melody notes and waterfalls and inner voices spooky 👻
I’ve really missed your videos. This is another great one. What about a couple of Christmas tune reharmonised like O Come O Come Emmanuel or O Come All Ye Faithful.
Well done Jeff! I've been watching your channel for some time. You finally compelled me to bust out my credit card and buy the Sick Chords bundle. I'm PLEASED to finally support your efforts financially because you deserve it. Thank you!!
"Great is thy faithfulness" is quoted from the book of Lamentations chapter 3, written by the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah.
Great video thanks
I love this, I was thinking about bass and melody note possibilities and I ran across this video. Will you do more songs like this in the same key so that all melody notes could be covered.
Welcome back!!! Really missed these sessions. Looking forward to more of this fantastic stuff…
I love when you get into explaining the theory behind the lessons with your personal touch. This is what first thrust me to your channel.Your a excellent guy and teacher....God Bless
This is the course im looking for and to reharmonize chords and which chords to use. Im only playing out of F# key. Can you help me with this?
As a young guitar player I read Steve Vai say he re-harmonized things like the Star Spangled Banner b4 joining Zappa. I never had a clue how to do that. But Watching the formula and a few other videos of yours, it's making sense. But I have so many questions. I got lost a couple times... as per your choices. Does this work in a simplified way also... to harness it for Pop leaning music? Thanks! Would love/need a 2 hour consultation with you.
A Small Request Jeff from myself Joshua Daniel all the way from India... Please do teach us about the context in detail about the functionality of jazz in a better way... Much more slower with some examples.and stuffs...I didn't get your context in your previous video regarding Row Row Row a boat ... That song. In the Key of Fmajor... My querie for you is that it would be better if you teach us how those jazz chords and functionalities work together Appropriately .... Thank you Jeff ..
No particular rule imo. 'If it sounds good to your ears, stick with it' is what i've been telling myself when it comes to reharmonizations.
Great series of videos.
I love chords so more videos would be cool.
You got it!
Are you completely disregarding the "key" the song is in, and instead completely focused on reharmonizing the melody? Love your videos 🤩
A little bit of both in the second example of this video...but not at all in the first example.
Cool ideas even for guitarists!
Totally!
I am an enthusiastic amateur musician and I always toyed with this concept of harmonization…until you came along and demonstrated it live! Now I know I wasn’t crazy! Thank you and I will be purchasing your book and any other material on offer. You have truly made my day.
I don't agree that voice is Db9#11 I think it's easier understood as Eb7#5/Db
I love the sound of major 7th chords. Is it possible to reharmonize songs which are written with mostly dominant 7th chords and change them to major 7ths?
Jewish with great knowledge on this matter. Got my subscription.
More more more.....
Glad that u’re a Jewish and im an Agnostic Atheist 😃☝️💪✌️
Why do I hear, "My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of liberty"? xD
Very similar rhythm in the melody
It's really great to have you, who have a system and method and language to teach these styles and sounds, instead of "that feels good, that feels good, just play what you hear" and throw in a bunch of complicated runs and sum up with a laughter. They may play very very well but their "lessons" don't worthsh it.
Thanks a lot!
Please, just one question. How do you go about forming or finding the chords that go along with the melody? Because, if we follow your logic, we could lay down simple chords following the chromatic bassline. I would like to understand, please.
As someone who is also Jewish, that “I’m Jewish” killed me.
Jewish man always the best,, i am Christian❤
How do you know which chords to make minor?
Can you do a reharmonization of a Pizmonim?
could you outline the voice leading principles you used leading from one tension chord to the other?
...there is for sure more than: "short moves, let same tones stay"
Thanks for this! The same idea, only with a dominant-motion bass line, would be very interesting.
I've got something cookin' along those lines. Stay tuned!
First guy to like it!
Great! The congregation might get a little restless though. But the concept applies to secular music
very well!
when will the bundle be back ?
hi, signed up to your newsletter. I would like to sign up for your "sick chords" bundle. Is there a particular email I should be using?
And I am Hebrew Israelite with Jewish Spirituality and Godly mannerisms - without your musical knowledge (lgh)
Excelentissimo is the instructions.
Very cool technique!!! Thanks ;) I love harmony ideas like this!!!
Newsflash😂
Brilliant. The theory really helps with remembering chords and transposing to all key. Excellent work. Thank you 😊.
Hey Jeff great video. I'm wondering; is there a prerequisite to watching this?
Amazing
Take 6, anyone?
Really great stuff Jeff. Your enthusiasm is palpable. Nothing better than music!
Great content, Jeff. A Hug from Brazil!!
so the melody notes - are they the original melody notes of the song or did you create that?
This is really Tasty. The last example where you started slow and inserted those fonky chonky chords at the end sounds awesome ❤️
you upload this video at the same time I wanna learn reharmonization. thanks soooo much!
5:48 hoooo weee! Hit 'em with that Steely Dan chord!

Traditional Hebrew Worship music is freaking beautiful. Seems like music that is dedicated to YHVH is always the most powerful, go figure. Yohan Sebastian Bach?! Psh. Come on...
jewish schemes LOL
