When our ship HMCS Protector returned to Canada after routine visits to Europe in the spring of 1992, we did so during the 80th anniversary dedications during “Titanic week”. Our ship left "Titanic Dock" in Southampton 80 years to the day, and a few days later while returning to our home port of Halifax, we had a ceremony over the spot where the ship went down 80 years earlier; during the evening of 14 April 1992. It was one of the most moving experiences for all of us whom attended this brief benediction given by our Padre, with the Bagpiper playing to all present; including the Captain whom threw a wreath into the ocean in memory of all those lost from this watershed moment of history. An incredible honor it has been to watch this interview taken immediately after the release of James Cameron's “Titanic” film.
Who would have known, when you visited the Titanic shipwreck on the ocean surface in 1992, that 6 years later this massive blockbuster movie would come out, honoring the Titanic and the lives lost and those who carried on. After watching the movie, it would have made me even more emotional.
