Great video. Just goes to show what a terrific phone the original Pixel was and still is.

Great video! I enjoyed my Pixel 1 (non XL) quite a lot. I remember they had Pixel support built right into the phone so you could get a person on the phone almost immediately. Had to swap out the first two units for issues but the third one was a winner.

Plot Twist: If Google had offered the same support back then that they offer right now, both Pixel 1 and Pixel 8, as of this moment, would be on Android 14.

Love this throwback comparison, clearly just for a laugh. BTW, I'm loving my new (regular) Pixel 8; I just got 8:45 SOT w/ 20% remaining over two days. And props for the Crowded House cameo.

Camera test really impressed me, I suspect 9/10 people who are not phone "nerd" would not think twice about the photos from Pixel 1 XL being made on such an "old" device.

For the most part there are reasonable gaps in the differences in quality & performance between the two phones. This video is very helpful and it validate how far technology has been made in software and hardware quality. The Pixel 1XL performance is still impressive considering how long it was launched. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾

Good video. I always enjoy these type of video. It is great looking back from way back then to see how things has change. Really I like the UI better on the pixel 1 than the pixel 8 pro. It looks more simple and to the point. The Ul now looks too bubbly.

the first pixel phone I got was a 3a XL three years ago (still working fine though), then after no software support and battery drainage on the old pixel.. I convinced myself to upgrade and got a 2nd hand pixel 7a at a reasonable price in my country where no official pixel stores available...
and hopefully it'll last more in the long run for another 3+ years ahead
    great video by the way

Thanks Shane! This may have broken my annual upgrade cycle. The pixel 8 pro does so many things well that I don't see a reason to upgrade any time soon!

    • @AtulKedia
      @AtulKedia Год назад

I've never had a yearly upgrade cycle because that is an utter waste of money and the phones aren't that different anyway like was mentioned in the video. I've typically kept my phones for about 4 years. Currently in the Pixel 3 and about to be 5 years in December.

Thanks for this comparison. I still have my P1 and upgraded to a P4 when it was new. I upgraded because the P1 was defective. The P4 felt like a small upgrade for a 3 year gap. The cameras were really similar. Main upgrade was in low light.

You should root it and install android 14 to see how it will handle it, may give us a small insight into the pixel 8 longevity

I love your content bro. Big pixel fan since 2017 but one thing I would like to mention if it's not too much, how come no one's talking about the snapdragon conference? That was amazing to me to be able to have silicone that's on the level of a M2 potentially. Seems like a lot of hate is going on.

I used to have the pixel xl in silver, the pixel xl was the last nexus/pixel device manufactured from different oems. The pixel xl was manufactured by htc and the design of the pixel xl was influenced by htc. The pixel 1 and pixel xl was the last pixel devices with unlimited original quality google cloud photos. I still have my pixel 4a 5g being the last pixel device with compressed unlimited google cloud photos. I even went to the repair shop to get the battery replaced for the pixel xl because the battery was draining very fast and even with the battery being replaced with a newer stock battery, the battery was still draining very fast. I still have my nexus 6p since it was the last nexus device. The phone would drain very fast and automatically shut off once the phone got to 50% with the old battery and I even went to the same repair shop to replace the nexus 6p with a newer stock battery and the battery was still draining very fast and the phone would still automatically shut off once the phone got to 50%. The battery draining issues and the phone automatically shutting down once it got down to 50% every time would still happen regardless whether the battery was old or new for my nexus 6p. I even did a factory reset on the nexus 6p and it made no difference since it still was doing the same thing. I'm glad the newer updates don't cause the mobile data to automatically turn on and off even though I always have mobile data always on and enabled and wifi always turned off since I was using the mobile data about 99% of the time because I have unlimited mobile data. I still get burn in from old devices and the newer devices with an oled display. I wish there was an option for a mini led display for android devices to get rid of burn in issues.

Just out of curiosity: Does the Pixel 1 still have the unlimited cloud space on Google photos? I recall it working only for pictures taken directly from the Pixel 1 with its camera app, but it didn't specify anywhere about any time limit

Very interesting video. The difference between the camera and the screen is not as big as I expected. I think this video has helped me not buy every new generation that launches. I'm going to buy 8 pro. I'm sure I'll stay on 7 pro for a couple of years if the battery survives.

I upgraded from 7 Pro since I value the selfish auto focus, upgraded cameras and speakers, better thermals and battery. But I agree, most should not. Great video I miss my original Pixel 1! It was great aside from battery life

Pixel 1 also was sloped in the back if you look at it closely, they designed it well to hide that camera bump.

The only in main reason why I upgraded my pixel 4 was the battery simply wasn't able to be away from the charger wire for very long
If the UE is able to force apple to bring back replaceable batteries and the same happens to Android these phones will last 5 to 10 years easily with some basic simple care. Can't wait! I'd rather have a replaceable battery any day then a waterproof phone and a thousand feet. As long as it can handle sprinkles. It's all we need🎉

I still think the original pixel takes more natural pictures, they alter the image so much in pixel 8, hdr processing is through the roof, to the point, although yes better and more detailed, almost no blown highlights and no details lost due to shadows, the images are flat. it looks like it captures a 2d object with no dark or bright area, every part of the object captured is perfectly lit, which is imo looks weird and fake.

Pixel was a really good phone. Used it for 3 years and never ever gave me any problems expect battery getting worse after 2 years but that was the same with my current iPhone. Google phones are the only one that I use if I ever want to go android. They give me iPhone vibes while using them. No unnecessary gimmicks just use your phone that’s it 😊 only reason why I don’t use pixel anymore is it stopped receiving updates and I didn’t like pixel 5 it was weird phone didn’t want to go Samsung so iPhone was my only choice and as long as my iPhone keep getting updates I ain’t switching to anything. Maybe I will go back to pixel in a year or two let’s see if they make it good enough to consider switching from Apple in future.
