  • An application of linear momentum and projectile motion. An Arrow traveling at a given velocity strikes and becomes embedded in an Apple which is resting on a fence post. The Apple and Arrow fall together to the ground below. In this problem we solve for the horizontal displacement of the Apple and Arrow as they fall.
    This problem commonly comes up in introductory physics courses such as high school physics, AP Physics 1 & AP Physics C Mechanics. It also appears on the JEE and A Level Exams.
