  • JFRD responded to a large cardboard box pile on fire. Fortunately, no structures were endangered, the sprinklers in the building activated, there was heavy equipment available to move the pile around to expose hidden fire, and crews were familiar with this facility and its operations.
    There were no injuries and this fire was handled rather quickly.
    Watch and listen to crews on scene.

    This video is absolute proof that deluge sprinklers work and save so much including lives. Much easier to effect cleanup after the fire is out.

    Glad that there were no injuries to anyone related to this incident and that they made a quick knock down ( great job guys)
    When I was a volunteer firefighter we responded to a similar incident at a recycling facility. The sprinkler system they had, worked too and all we really had to do is get the hot spots out.
    Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

      It was too deep seated for the sprinklers to truly get too...

    I'll never forget I was on 95 in Jax one day heading to the airport and one of those garbage collection trucks passed me and smoke was pouring out the back of it, the driver had no idea the truck was on fire until other drivers starting blowing their horns and waving at him that something was wrong.

    The dispatchers are very hard to understand. They need to slow down a touch. In my opinion. Later into the video, they do much better.

      it is an acquired ear...as you get more seasoned on the job, you can understand better...I think some of what you may be referring to is firefighters wearing masks that gargle their voices, often hard to understand.

    • @shellya1461
      @shellya1461 10 месяцев назад

      @thejfrd2490 I spent 20 years FF/EMT. It wasn't the mask issue. Thats very different. The call and immediate subsequent communications with the dispatcher is what I was referring to. Later in the vid it was much better. And there are two dispatchers...one much clearer than the other. Best comms are calm, clear and concise.
      Just offering opinion and feedback. Definitely appreciate the job, effort, etc. Been there, done that.

    I am surprised you didn't change the ladder to a fog nozzle and flow it low while that bucket loader worked to protect it.

    • @davidlenzi3551
      @davidlenzi3551 10 месяцев назад

      The idea was not to protect the loader. The more active fire was further back in the heap and was of more concern than the loader removing the material at the front of the heap.

    Enzymatic cleaners, water and stacks of wood pulp getting too deep... Addin some corrosive based grease busters or corrosive oxidants that come in contact with pertochemicals all left as dregs in various household quantity cans in the metal waste section and you get the sparks and heat. I am not surprised these facilities are catching fire all the time.
