    I'm hoping to see the Shadow In The Warp be mentioned by the Tyranids as it's a very powerful, if indirect, weapon that simply never gets any attention and I would love to see it more detailed so others can learn about how truly damaging and dangerous it is

    • @somethinglikethat2176
      @somethinglikethat2176 4 года назад +8

      How does the Shadow in the Warp work? It's not a like nulls because the nids are affected by nulls in the same way as psykers. So (and excuse the rough analogy) is it like negative numbers to normal psyker positive numbers? Like an opposite force the destructively interferes with normal psi force? Kinda new to 40k so apologies if it's a dumb question.

    • @SpaghettiToaster
      @SpaghettiToaster 4 года назад +10

      @@somethinglikethat2176 I'm not aware of any source that explicitly explains it, but it may exist, I don't know a lot of lore. From what I remember from 5th edition books and codices, they just say that the hivememind's warp presence is so great that it distorts the warp in a way that makes communication impossible.

    • @Abadayos
      @Abadayos 4 года назад +20

      @@somethinglikethat2176 From a very basic version, and I may be wrong here as it's been a few years:
      The Shadow In The Warp (I'm just going to cal it the Shadow from here on) is a null zone that follows the Tyranid hive fleets through space. It makes warp travel almost, if not, impossible through it by all races that use that method of transit. it makes it so the Astropathic Beacon is not present for Navigators to 'lock onto' also and totally disables all forms of astropathic communication within it's sphere of influence.
      The Tyranids can still travel freely through this as they don't actually use the warp as is described in @Luetin09 's videos detailing as such. This blanketing of space is done by the Tyranids Hive Mind and their psychic presence to control the Hive Fleets, even though the directing force may be many light years away. How rapid that communication/direction is transmitted is unknown as in, is there signal lag or is it instant via some unknown method? There are so many questions regarding the Hive Fleets and how they operate and organize at a galactic level (see Hive Fleet Behamoth and Kraken coming in at outer disc of teh galaxy and Leviathan taking the galaxy from 'below' and by the looks some of teh minor fleets are also hitting slightly from 'above' the galactic plane).
      The Shadow will also send most psychers eventually insane if they spend enough time within it due to the pressures of the Hive Mind as well as sometimes amplifying Tyranid and Genestealer hybrids powers though that was mentioned in some really old fluff somewhere so not too sure if that's still a thing?
      Now what I meant as it being an indirect weapon is it's teh ultimate 'salt the earth' thing. Warp transit is impossible in this Shadow, however it doesn't go away when teh Tyranids move onto another feeding ground or are wiped out. It persists for an unknown and, as far as I'm aware, unspecified length of time. Basically making even a victory against them a loss as the system is basically buggered for rebuilding, resupply or evacuation at a reliable level. The ships simply are unable to translate correctly or at all into the system, basically sealing it off from the rest of the greater galaxy, for better or worse.
      There are races that do not use the warp to travel, like Necrons and I THINK Tau so they would be basically unaffected by this. Interestingly these are the two races that are psychically dead too.
      Lots of stuff to detail and I feel worthy of a mention and the long term damage would be much greater than that of almost any other weapon around except Chaos and even then that's questionable as a Hive Fleet only has to enter the Sol system to basically turn off the Astronomicon for a period, win or lose. Then...hello Dark Age Mk2. The Imperium is no longer able to travel reliably in teh warp and literally trillions die, worlds burn and the Imperium basically collapses. Choas to do that must WIN in Sol and take Terra, they Tyranids simply have to show up in sufficient numbers...oh and Leviathan is pretty close to Terra too...sooo...

    • @andrewspraggon3331
      @andrewspraggon3331 4 года назад +6

      The tyranids are the key to destroying chaos

    • @Abadayos
      @Abadayos 4 года назад +2

      @MonsieurHiroshima I never mentioned any harm to the Emporer, just that it would blanket the Astropathic Beacon and if not snuff it out for a time, it would mute it's effects and make Imperial warp travel much harder and perilous.
      This also proves teh point that it needs more details.
      And yes, Nids travel sub light using Nautilus scout ships to find prey areas for the fleets to travel to. The effects of this damage your describing was in teh 5th edition codex IIRC..or possibly 4th? But yes that is correct, the mere presence of them in system fucks teh system up.
      Maybe then not just the Shadow being a topic but the Shadow and Tyranid presence in system would be a better one, doing them both as they are kinda one and the same, can't have one without the other so to speak?
      EDIT: And yes with teh Tau they are psychicly 'dead' thus have zero understanding of how the warp works and have very very little impact on the warp itself and use another means of space trasite (which I can't remember as Tau are my least favorite race so I kinda just gloss over their finer points)

      Can't remmember exactly where i read but they actually did have a fight with the eldar but got curb stomped, like horribly but there not much more information about it from that. There is an interesting theory that dark age man made the pariah gene for the purpose of helping the next fight against the eldar.
      As for surpasing i'll post something i put up earlier "it is interesting, you could say the necrons were masters of the material universe, eldar the masters of the immeterium where as the humans, while not as powerful in either field but strode a great line between in. I have my own personal theory that the reason the Mechanicus abhors xenotech from a philosophical level is because of this dichotomy. when you worship knowledge and the gathering of it something that leads to technological dead ends, only material or only material it makes sense you'd teach your peoples to despise that. It also goes to another teaching they have, the knowledge of the ancients is not reproachable, they saw the limitless potential of melding both material and immaterial tech."
      so i think given enough time humankinds unique tech could of been the equal to, or surpass both but alas they were cut down before they could achieve it, even if it would of taken hundreds of thousands of years to do it.

      But humanity was so powerful at that time that both Orks and Eldar had treaties of peace with them.
      Also the Eldar had some mind blowing technology, they had these giant factories that could fabricate warships with warp energy and make armies en'masse. (It got corrupted by chaos though).

    It would think it's just a coincidence or that the Design was made first without consulting the Lore for it.
    About all the Weapons presented here though, the coolest for me is the STC - Dark Age - Weapons/Technology.
    Somthing that is meantioned is that the old Human Federation or whatever it was called, had contact and treaties with Xenos.

      it is interesting, you could say the necrons were masters of the material universe, eldar the masters of the immeterium where as the humans, while not as powerful in either field but strode a great line between in. I have my own personal theory that the reason the Mechanicus abhors xenotech from a philosophical level is because of this dichotomy. when you worship knowledge and the gathering of it something that leads to technological dead ends, only material or only material it makes sense you'd teach your peoples to despise that. It also goes to another teaching they have, the knowledge of the ancients is not reproachable, they saw the limitless potential of melding both material and immaterial tech.

    • @zanplays5308
      @zanplays5308 4 года назад +21

The necrons basically have mastery of all the technology of the necrontyr, c'tan and old ones on their side. They even created the dolmen gates to allow them to use the webways which normally can only be accessed using psykers. Necrons in the lore are hands down the most powerful faction. Ps. Another bit of necron tech that shows their mastery of the immaterial is the pillars. They raise these pillars that surpress the warp in a very large radius. Apparently if they raise and activate enough of these pillars, they have the power to completely severe the warp from the material universe which is also the goal of some dynasties. It'll be interesting to see if their plans mske it to fruition as the entrie 40k universe would basically become a post apocalyptic world where no one but the Necron and T'au are uneffected and even that is questionable as the T'au fast travel by bouncing into the warp. Not sure if they'd still be able to after the pillars are raised. I'm curious of your thoughts on this.

    I worked out the real world energy of just a single standard issue imperial cruiser macro cannon using some numbers I'd worked backwards from some references in BFG to calculate. The bore on a macrocannon is about 50m. Assuming a roughly spherical shell of something like iron this gives a mass of about 45,000 tonnes. The macrocannon shot fires up to 40km on a matter of seconds (about 2.5% the speed of light). When you put this together (ignoring relativity which is reasonably for 2.5% the speed of light) you get a power output for each macrocannon shot of about 10^21 Joules. Roughly the total solar energy that his the earth in an hour or ten times the total petroleum reserves of the planet.

    I also remember when the D weapons had the "remove the model, the warp doesn't care about your stats" rule and I think you could just lob the damn thing out to see if it drifted close enough to delete a model in the earlier editions before that but its been many a moon and I may not remember perfectly.

    I find the aspect of the chaos corruption cool where the affected ones doesn’t recognise that they are corrupted like in the Book „Mephiston revenant crusade” you should read it it’s really interesting.

    Luetin09 I'd love for you to go through some of the interesting stories and lore of the different astartes groups (Ultramarines, Salamanders, White Scars, Space Wolves, etc). I know it would probably take a lot of time, but I'm sure all of us would love it! Keep up the fantastic work!

    Again I was able to learn so much about 40K lore again due to your brilliant explanations. As always new fields of unknown mystery was created by your immersive narrative to me (if Chaos is truly "all currupting" could it also currupt the Necrons..?). I'm very thankful for your excellent content. And now I'm even having the joy of being able to directly jump to part 2. Feels like Christmas. I'm happy. ^____^

    I always thought an Astarte forgetting their past life was more of a side effect of their transformation than a deliberate act. It was never explicitly mentioned as being part their transition except for the Grey Knights.

    Chaos corruption cover-up
    Am I the only one picturing then scene from the naked gun with Leslie Nelson standing in front of the exploding fireworks factory saying nothing to see here, everything is completely normal, and nothing to see here ( as chaos lightning and bolter explosions are going off in the background)

  • @igncom1

    I would imagine to most, the forces of 'chaos' aren't even referred to as such. Because that would validate them, giving them power. To most they would be little more then brigands and rebels, whos corruption and alien contamination serving as proof of the imperial propaganda.
