    NOTE - Several ppl I am sure there will be more, saying Fleet Leviathan was stopped/destroyed - it was heavily defeated but remains and already launched new offensives.
    Today we look at one of the most 40K things in 40K - Exterminatus. I am working on Part 3 of the Chaos Origins series so that is in the pipeline. Probably still will get something shorter out this week as well though. As always guys if you enjoy drop a like and your thoughts below. I'm always around for a solid hour on the comments post upload, so just FYI

    "Heresy is like a tree, its roots lie in the darkness whilst its leaves wave in the sun and to those who suspect nought, it has an attractive and pleasing appearance. Truly, you can prune away its branches, or even cut the tree to the ground, but it will grow up again ever the stronger and ever more comely. Yet all awhile the root grows thick and black, gnawing at the bitter soil, drawing its nourishment from the darkness, and growing even greater and more deeply entrenched.
    Such is the nature of heresy, and this is why it is so hard to destroy, for it must be eradicated leaf, branch, trunk and root. It must be exorcised utterly or it will return all the stronger, time and time again, until it is too great to destroy. Then we are doomed.

A two-stage cyclonic torpedo would do the trick rather nicely. A planet subjected to Exterminatus via orbital bombardment is still there, and can still be made habitable once more. But if you want to permanently deny the world to Chaos, that world should then be shattered and the debris strewn throughout the system.

      You know like I said with the above thread a post about the math of exterminatus, it would be an interesting exercise to determine which actual costs to the imperium would be worth it til those costs are worth it no more to take and hold Terra from its not just strategic and symbolic purpose but also from the Astronomicon itself. Which one could be argued, that due to that (and because of the fact Mars is next door too) that there is literally NO cost which is not worth ultimately paying in order to protect Terra, at least, it's a "saving the Princeps" type of thing to nth degree. Cadia was always utterly expendable next to Terra, and there is not one single chapter world that wouldn't be collectively sacrificed to save Terra not because of its high lord importance or strategic and symbolic value, but because the Imperium literally cannot function without the astronomicon.

      It is human nature to seek culpability in times of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate rather than to bow ones head and to succumb. Inevitability many shall fault the hands upon the sword which fell Typhon, the Ordo Malleus. But the Inquisition merely performs the duty of its office. To further fear them is redundant; to hate them, heretical. Those more sensible will place responsibility with those who forced the hands of the Inquiistion. With some fortune, the may foster this hatred into purpose, and further rule their own fate by coming to the Emperor's service. Yet Ultimately it was I who set these events into motion, with a single blow from my hammer, God Spilter.

      No it isn't, there is a very good, very well thought out, logical and solid strategic, mathematically sound thinking as to why you would pronounce Exterminatus on particularly any Ork, Tyranid, and/or Chaos infested world, and that is because most of these worlds just do not provide the requisite food, minerals, new IG recruits/human soul sacrifices etc. that would possibly justify attempting to take back and hold this world just in sheer cost of lives, materials, food, time and other vital resources which if you had wasted it they'd have never paid it back. Think about it as paying over a thousand dollars for an RX 550 in 2020 as a mining GPU. You'd have NEVER remade the cost in money over time by mining, you'd have continually drained some finances paying for the electric bill of running it and the pennies a day it would make you is never going to turn a profit before you're like 70 years old. And that is assuming no other invasion happens, it'd be like basically if Tyranids then later came and broke that GPU fan so now you had to take it to repair shop, now you have even more downtime not mining, and now the cost of repair and new fan becomes part of the overall cost to the GPU. Or like if you was playing a 4x game like Endless Space 2 and had just this one gas giant world in one system, it only has one planet, or a really paltry territory in Endless Legend or Sid Meier's something or other, which you'd basically have to spend a huge amount of imperial resources to just take the thing back and then spend all this time and money to be holding a thing that is basically not valuable and doesn't provide shit to your empire.
      There are no sentimental reasons for holding onto any of this shit, it's because you'd be the pigeon kicking pieces over and shitting everywhere by continually sending more IG troops to try and take back a pointless, dirt poor feudal world in spite of its tremendous cost to everybody else, which is exactly where the saying "some say by what right did I have to doom this world, but a wiser man would ask by what right did I have to let them live?" comes from, it is because in so doing you are wasting precious lives and resources that can go elsewhere. Not only that, but on any ork, tyranid, and chaos infested world that becomes just not only a nonstop headache in its own right but begins seeding contamination onto all the other worlds, thus because you suffered them to live you have guaranteed, in exactly the same way that the imperial governor's daughter brought down a hiveworld, that your mercy for a handful of lives have doomed millions. It's the same basic calculus as saying "they refuse to wear a mask going to the movie theater? They are contaminated, burn them all so we don't catch covid." Only if instead of a low % of lung damage you're probably going to have people coughing up rape demons. Therefore it makes more mathematical and strategical sense to simply burn to death EVERYONE who's not wearing a mask than bother trying to sort through who's contaminated or not, that's the basic role of the inquisitor, is trying to burn as few people/worlds to death as possible as a needless waste of resources but without accidentally missing any false negatives.
      It's a 4x game type scenario, it all comes down to just simple math. Exterminatus gets treated hamfistedly by pseudfans but it's not, it's a very sound, tactical and strategic decision that even in the case of a supposed madman like Kryptman was done for a very salient line of reasoning and a big part of this reasoning is that because these worlds are held only for the resources that they can provide, it becomes redundant trying to hold onto a world that provides little resources by continually providing a very high stream of resources in order to keep it, defend it, take it back and keep holding to it like some junk car you paid $2000 for an already sunk $5000 to repair bills, literally spends half the time in the shop, is unreliable, is all but guaranteed to just keep taking more of your money til eventually it gets to the point of being like "I'd have spent less money had I simply bought the $8,000 used car that didn't have problems than keep trying to fix this piece of crap."

    >firing cyclonic torpedoes into pre-cut tears; blasting away continent sized chunks; torn apart by its own rotation.
    There is no part of that that makes any physical sense.
    >Virus bombs
    I did the math on this.
    The flammable breakdown products of decomposition are extremely light. So light, in fact, that in order for the atmospheric density of it to be able to burn the decomposition must happen so quickly that no flammable breakdown products could be produced in the first place. The rate of decomposition would be such that the thermal energy released in the process would exceed the ignition point of any and all organic matter.
    >breaking apart a planet with seismic charges
    The energy required to overcome the gravitational binding force of a planet is more than anything the Imperium has demonstrated to be able to bring to bear.

    Inquisitor Kryptman was not only one of the first to notice the immense size of Hive Fleet Leviathan, he also noticed one of the largest Ork Invasions ever seen in the Imperium around the same time.
    With the help of the Deathwatch, he hatched an insane plan to get the two massive armies to fight each other and hopefully decimate each other in the outer rim systems so that the Imperial Navy had time to gather forces and resources to obliterate the victor.
    His plan backfired however, and instead the Ork forces and Leviathan grew even stronger and larger resulting in high losses of Imperial worlds and forces.
    In this record, he went into exile after being deemed a traitor to humanity for his actions and the Deathwatch was left to clear up the mess.

      A lot of currency and economic systems depend entirely on the planet you're talking about. On Necromunda, they have plain ol' credits that work like dollars on our world. On other worlds, they have feudal systems where landowning nobles are paid a tithe by their peasants. Some worlds or star systems don't even have anything resembling currency or trade. Either population is so small that everyone has everything they need/is subsidized by the Imperium (such as research stations), or everyone does what they have to in order to survive because it's a death world with man-eating plants infested by rape demons that's engulfed in a centuries-long civil war.
      Then there's Orks, who use their "teef" as currency. Tyranids are just animals who rely on survival of the fittest. Chaos barters in souls and infamy, with the Dark Gods granting gifts to those deemed most worthy. Then there's Eldar and Necrons, who have such advanced technology that scarcity is non-existent.

    A good idea for the imperium might be the idea of a contingency plan for all worlds with a sufficiently large biomass anywhere near a Tyranid fleet that is basically "If the Tyranids cannot be repelled, and have indeed won, push this button to destroy the planet."
    But setting that up woukd require a lot of co-ordination for the Imperium, and it's similar to the firebreak approach except with the added bit of "At least attempt to fight them first".

    Luetin can exterminatus be enacted on a forge world even though technically a forgeworld isnt a imperium owned world? like when i think about it imagine an emperor class battleship crewed by the inquisition dropping cyclonic torpedoes on a forgeworld right in front of the adeptus mechanicus fleets above..... does this create a diplomatic rift between the factions???

    • @Luetin09
      @Luetin09  5 лет назад +31

      Interesting question, I actually haven't seen anything to answer that personally. I think perhaps it may be a situation where only the Inquisitors could call that one, and even then it could ruffle some feathers. If anyone has a source that illustrates this situation I'd be interested to see it.

    • @apothecarion4391
      @apothecarion4391 5 лет назад +7

      @@Luetin09 i bet the fabricator generals strongly oppose inquisitors rights to call that kinda stuff when forge worlds are in question. but yeah your probably right seeing as they answer only to the emperor himself, so essentially no one. :) haha

      My guess is no world is safe from exterminatus especially forgeworlds because whats more dangerous to mankind a chaos controlled agriworld or forgeworld however i dont think any inquisitor would order it upon a mechanicus run world without first seeking permission from the cult itself or heavy plot plate armour in the case of a few because the mechanicus are simply essential to mankinds survival like water and air whereas the inquisition is a luxury the imperium can afford.

    I'm up to reading The Horus Heresy: The Burden by Loyalty now. Even though I already know how apocalyptic Exterminatus is, this book is giving me absolute chills. There's a part in the book where Rogal Dorn, Malcador the Sigillite, and the Fabricator General of the Mechanicum are debating on what to do about the Mars rebellion. Dorn is seriously (when is he not serious) planning Exterminatus on Mars and seeing overlord of the Mechanicum, Zagreus Kane's reaction blew me away. Even for the Mechanicum, Exterminatus is not for the faint of heart.

    I highly recommend the short story 'Ghosts speak not' by James Swallow. If you like the Heresy era, there are a few nuggets of prequelness in there for the anoraks... Anyway, those in the know, will understand why I find this relevant. Love the work you do Luetin09. I'm 35 years into the 40k universe, and yet, a noob...

    Some may question my right to destroy a world of ten billion souls.
    But those who truly understand, realize that I have no right to let them live.
    No sacrifice is too great, no treachery too small!
    This is the reason I love the holy inquisition.
    They are basicly edgelords with the power to annihilate whole worlds
